First of all its FREE. Ive lived in Apopka for several years and discovered this just last weekend. Awesome! The St. Johns River Water Management District is an awesome entity. They have almost every property they own open to the public for camping, hiking, fishing, boating and horseback riding. And its all FREE. Every weekend my girlfriend and I are going to drive to a new conservation area of theirs and check them all out. Way to go SJRWMD!! Thanks for all you do for us to enjoy. Amazing! I would gladly volunteer to help keep up and maintain the properties for future generations to enjoy. We need more entities like you in this country to protect our resources. Thanks again!

This is a beautiful 11-mile drive through the area north and east of Lake Apopka, and it is one of the premiere inland locations for birding and wildlife in Central Florida, if not the whole state. Give yourself at least 2 hours to visit, as you have to drive pretty slow, and you may want to stop along the way. Theres a parking area with a covered pavilion where Lust Rd hits the lake. Its definitely worth getting out here and walking the loop trail a bit. If you love nature and wildlife, you have to visit this drive. The drive is open Friday through Sunday and national holidays.

My wife grew up in Florida and didnt expect to be so impressed - you can truly have up close and personal experience with a wide variety of birds and animals. During our visit, an 8 foot+ alligator was lying placid against a fence seemingly smiling for the excited visitors snapping pictures from a few feet away. Lots of birds as well. A great place to bring out of town guests and family.

Great experience! We usually take a costly airboat ride when visiting Florida to view wildlife. I learned about this place online and took the family, and we saw so many different birds and plenty of alligators - free! Definitely worth the trip!

Local hidden gem... parking can be found at the end of Lust Rd where you can get out and walk or bike along the lake and take in all the amazing wildlife... dont forget your camera, bug spray, and go enjoy Florida in its natural state...

This place is amazing! Just plan about two hours to get through as the speed limit is 10mph and people frequently stop to look at wildlife.
