Finally made it down after hearing so much. Ive been trying their spirits from my local package store for a while now, so it was absolutely incredible to see the place in person. The factory is not what you might expect. Rather than some assembly lines and fillers, it is a diminutive alchemists laboratory, smuggled in to a tiny arts community by way of a speakeasy style bar. The co-owners are two of the sweetest (and arguably more eccentric) people in the county, and their interest in improving the spirit (ha cha cha) of this town is palpable. I went down for one of their tasting events, which honestly was the most fun Ive had in Hartford in some time. You get to feel like some sort of special tester on a QA board for a mad scientist as they ply you with sips of odd tinctures and strange smelling liquids from sparsely labeled vials. They are aiming to capture the romance and mystery of herbs by preserving them elegantly in alcohol, and to that end I find them incredibly successful. It was a mesmerizing showcase of flora and art, and I think we can expect really great things from these people. Products aside, it is even worth it to go and see the space. Nestled behind real art ways and the big arts building, it seems quite fitting to find this tactfully designed lobby with A LIVING MOSS WALL and scavenged wood installations. Super cool place. Look like a hero to your hipster friends and take them here before groupon finds out about it and steals that impetus from you.
