If you like nature and/or Asian culture, this is the place for you! Located in centrally in Golden Gate Park walking distance from both the de Young Museum and the California Academy of Sciences, this place is a must for anyone visiting San Francisco, especially if youre already exploring Golden Gate Park. Of course all the foliage is kept perfect and the year round cool weather is perfect this kind of place, but what doesnt make the Japanese Tea Garden perfect is the huge amount of tourists (including myself) who come in in such large numbers (especially in the summer when I was there) which makes the whole experience less "zen," but its understandable. They have this cool bridge that is so steep that you practically have to climb up to the top and then climb down. Its like a bridge/ladder hybrid - and yes, its a good photo op. I love animals so having the Koi fish is a nice addition to the bodies of water throughout the garden. They have a good selection of souvenirs in the gift shop and I didnt eat at the restaurant but it was very crowded.

In the midst of the Golden Gate Park lies a beautiful quaint Japanese garden. The ticket price was okay ($9 per person ). The reason I needed to visit this place is because there is this really awesome arched bridge thats amazing to do photo shoots on! Then you got a couple of areas you can go into. But the garden is quite small and for the price , I dont think it is worth the ticket price because it is such a small area to walk around. It is probably because it is in SF, hence the reason why the admission is so high and it definitely has a high volume of tourists here. If you really want to see the arch bridge and get some pictures on it then it is worth it but if you dont really care, Id suggest save your money and go somewhere like the botanical gardens of conservatory of flowers which has more photo opportunities. If you do come here, stop by for some tea and snacks and enjoy the garden even if it is a tad bit crowded!

When our in laws came for a visit several years ago, we brought them here as part of their San Francisco tour. They were impressed that such a garden existed within the city limits and thoroughly enjoyed it. I dont believe that any of my relatives have ever traveled to the Far East like I have so, this was as close to the "Orient" as it comes. I think what impressed them the most was how well kept the grounds were and the many flowers throughout the garden. The day my in laws were in town, the "Cherry Blossoms" had not blossomed. Although the usual San Francisco "fog" was out in the morning, it quickly burned off by noon time. The gardens little gift shop which was also remodeled presented that distinctively Japanese style in its architecture and interior design. Although there were many souvenir items for sale within the store, we just browsed and admired the unique collections they had.

I cant believe its taken me so long to come here! (If truth be told, its not "the" best Japanese Tea Garden Ive been - its smaller and more crowded, for instance - however...). It was definitely worth the trip out to Golden Gate Park to check it out. When I managed to find quiet spaces, it was very peaceful and a good place to reflect. The plants and trees and other flora and fauna are beautiful, as well as the structures and statues. The water too. The garden was perfect for taking some very lovely photos. If youre a resident, the discounted rate is $6, even on weekends. Otherwise, I think its $8 which still isnt too bad. Oh, and theres also a cafe in the centre if you would like some tea and/or snacks, but I didnt stick around for those this time around. Overall, loved it, and Id like to try to come back again during a less busy time to feel less crowded in and rushed.

The Japanese Tea Garden is truly a treasure and wonderful in so many ways. Its actually more of a full treasure chest than simply a single treasure. It is of course aesthetically pleasing, and lovely to walk around as well as to sit and admire. Yet theres so much more! Find the little tea bush, locate the oldest tree in San Francisco, have tea and snacks where the fortune cookie was invented a century ago, find out about its connection to the Pan-Pacific Expo, learn about the Japanese family who lived there and what happened to them, and so on. Treat yourself to a very worthwhile visit. Located in Golden Gate Park, its right next to the de Young art museum, across from the Cal Academy science museum, and very near to the arboretum.botanical garden, and more (all of which are worth visiting in their own right)!

I really enjoyed my visit to the Japanese Tea Garden. It is very peaceful and zenlike. I spent a good amount of time wandering the meandering paths throughout the garden. I am sure that I took some paths three or more times. It is a very nice place to quietly reflect and an introverts heaven. However, I did find the $9 entry fee rather high. The pagodas had also seen better days. There was also a garbage man changing the garbage cans during my visit. Given the entrance fee, I was surprised that they couldnt arrange to have this happen outside of visiting hours. TO me it really detracted from the peaceful experience. Overall, I would recommend the Japanese Garden since I think that East Asian gardens are gorgeous. However, this one has its flaws. I prefer Vancouvers Chinese Garden.

The Japanese Tea Garden is located next to the De Young Museum and across from the California Academy of Sciences, near the 10th Ave entrance to Golden Gate Park. Parking can be tough at this end, though you can occasionally get lucky (multiple modes of public transport will get you within easy walking distance). The history of the tea garden is enthralling - visit the official website to educate yourself before visiting. Youll want about an hour here. The landscaping/hardscaping is truly beautiful and well kept. Theres a tea house and gift shop, neither of which can compete with the beauty of the natural environment. Note: crowds can detract from the serenity of the experience; consider visiting during off peak hours.

This is a pid garden even for residents of San Francisco. You can get a discount if you live in SF so bring ID or any proof of residence. I loved the novelty of this garden - everything was so cute and thought through. The little bridge, the mini tree decorations, the coi fish and more. Its really amazing the type of things you find in Golden Gate park. The only downside is that this place gets super crowded so we had to wait to take photos on the bridge and under some of the houses. They have a tea place so it was nice to have a hot cup of tea on a chilly afternoon in SF in such a cozy little garden. I would recommend coming here if youre touring SF, its definitely a very unique experience.
