This house is beautiful Gothic steamboat architecture with an extremely interesting history. It has been moved several times and is yet moving again across the street closer to the San Mateo History Museum and perhaps a better location for the house. Thanks to long ago owner Sheriff Mansfield the house was purchased and rescued from being burned down. It was cut in half and moved by one horse to its current location . Helen is a wonderful docent who loves the house and the history and is very warm and welcoming! For those who leave a one star review you are people who cant appreciate the history or the architecture!

We have been holding our Christmas lunch here for several years. The docents prepare and serve it. This historical old home is thoroughly decorated for Christmas and true to the time period. Its really a lovely step back in time and fully furnished with period furniture and clothing. A real museum of sorts. If youve never visited this museum, youve missed a real jewel.

Very fun little place ! Outside you are in 2017 but when you step inside the door you look at life in 1800s and early 1900s. Mostly everything in the house is of the era and the staff knows just about everything in the house. The family that lived in the house have an interesting story. I would advise this place for a fun little half day trip.

Beautiful historic home. Wonderful docent. Can it wait to visit here again. Unfortunately I forgot the docents name, she has been a docent there for decades.

Cool old house right in downtown. Two floors decorated in the period. The docents knew the history of the house and were very helpful. Worth a visit.
