The Oroville Dam, Orovilles most famous site, is one of the 20 largest dams in the world, the largest earth filled dam in the US, as well as the tallest dam in the US. This dam impounds Lake Oroville, which has a capacity of 3,500,000 acre feet (4.3 km³) of water, making it the second largest reservoir in California. This is one of the most important parts of the California State Water Project (see also the Central Valley Project, a Federal undertaking). Both systems move water from water-rich Northern California to water-poor Southern California. This facility is operated by the California Department of Water Resources which is undergoing contract renewal with the City of Oroville and Butte County. The state has not paid any taxes on this facility nor developed the lake for recreation as originally promised which have been a bone of contention with the local government and residents. Construction cost $563.8 Million Construction began 1961 Opening date 1968 The dam lies in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, in Butte County, Northern California and at 770 feet (230 m) tall, is the tallest dam in the United States. Length 6,920 feet (2,110 m) Crest width 80 feet (24 m) Base width 3,570 feet (1,090 m) Coordinates 39°32′20″N 121°29′08″W

The Dam itself is one of the greatest engineering constructions on this planet, but who thought that a tiny bubble could make such massive disaster. the spillway bottom had to be aerated via small tubes, but this kind of anti-cavitation design was not devised when the dam was being designed and built.

I used to live near it, and always did my two mile run on it. The Dam is huge, and good for pictures. The visitor center is also a nice place, which give the background on the dam and Oroville itself. Id recommend for anyone who wants to take good pictures or take a run.
