It is pretty and green in February, got a great sunny day. There can be a lot of people on a weekend, but the trail is mostly wide enough that going around people is not a problem. There is a 5.2 mile loop that has some pretty steep sections, both smooth and rocky. You might find yourself using your hand is some of the rocky steep parts. If you do the out-and-back to The Homestead, it is a fairly easy hike with some elevation but no scrambling, and is the better hike when its hot. They call it Cold Canyon for a reason! There is also the new ridge trail, which is quite steep initially, but flattens out a bit on the ridge top. All in all a very nice hike, close to my house, and has options for people of different levels of fitness. There have been a number of people that have had to be rescued, so be careful and aware of your abilities, and carry water. Also, please, please please do not cut the switchbacks, the volunteer trail maintenance workers have plenty to do without bad habits creating more work, and as always, pack out your trash, even orange peels, the stick around for along time and make the stopping spots look trashy.

The good: Views of Lake Berryessa, hills, Sac valley, lizards. Nice workout taking the Blue Ridge trail. Going through storm drains was dope af. Some of the friendliest fellow hikers yet. Super close to UCD and very enjoyable drive, Ags should get out here! The bad: Not much I mean its a hike outside I dont expect shade and yea there are bugs but its outdoors so... Only thing it should be marked more obviously to arrive here and people will frogger across the street instead of using drainage pipes so they may not know about the trailhead. The forgotten : bug spray, thicker pants(lots of pricklies), sunhat not cap, and a meal - I was so malnourished after this. Best hike from socal just feel in live with nocal.

This is a great hike! My first time I did the 5 mile loop.I had never hiked before nevermind scale rocks! It was difficult for me and I was not happy at the end. I did however try it again when I was more experienced and Did it with no problem. Usually I choose not to do the loop because Im with new hikers or children. The 1.5 mile up to the view of the lake and back down to the parking lot is perfect! Great hike with beautiful views and just in time for an amazing lunch at putah creek cafe!

You will be rewarded with amazing view and the sense of accomplishment once you reach the top of the top. be sure to bring good pair of hiking shoes. plenty of water I do not recommend for beginner hiker or non-athletic people doing the full this hike.

Great hiking location with a lot of mixed terrain. If you have a strained back or weak knees this might not be a good trail due to the elevation and the rocky sections. The view at the top is really nice, bring a snack to enjoy it!

It was hot and dusty when we did this 3 miles out and back. We saw 4 or 5 other groups on our way out and none on our way back. Next time well start out earlier in the morning and do the whole loop.

This is the perfect getaway, and the perfect challenge hike. There is always a gogeous view, and a cool rock or clearing around the corner to gaze out at the landscape!

Closed until after May. I drove up here with some friends and they are still fixing the trail that was damaged from the fire. Its a good trail though.
