This is not Napa. You wouldnt expect a winery and fairly extensive vineyards sandwiched between some refineries in Martinez. But that is Viano, traditional, authentic. The best way to describe it is unpretentious. The tasting room is friendly, rustic, a bit old fashioned. The "private stock" tastings are free, for the "reserve selection" tasting they charge $0.75 per taste, waived if you buy a bottle. They pour generously. Private stock is priced at $5 to $8 a bottle (yes per bottle). Good value day-to-day table wine. Pretty solid. Honest delivery for the price. The "reserve selection" is at least two steps up and typically well worth the still pretty decent $15 to $17. If you are into dessert wines they have a very interesting and well priced selection of ports and late harvests. They are most known for their Zin, which I personally didnt like that much. (My taste, nothing wrong with the wine). I found their Reserve Selection Sangiovese and CS quite interesting. We got a few bottles. They have a nice pic-nic area. When the weather is nice, it is a great place for a family/group outing bring your own food, get a few bottles of their wine, enjoy life. And they have two very friendly dogs.

Took my Fiance here on a Monday, we had a great time. The owner lives on site and walked over from her house when we pulled up. She had plenty to say about each wine we tasted, and poured generously. We left with 2 bottles, a nice wine glass, and several reusable corks for our other bottles. Ive seen Viano wines for sale at Safeway, but the price was of course better direct from the source. Cant wait to bring more friends on our next tasting.

My fiance and I went to EJ Phair in Pittsburg. Wasnt impressed with their variety of foods to choose from, but WAS impressed with their red wine from Viano Vineyards. It went down so smooth. Cant wait to visit the winery soon.

Viano Vineyards 2006 Private Stock Zinfandel is an exceptional bottle. The bouquet and flavor is something you would expect from a small boutique winery and pay $35-$40 for. Yet this unpretentious bottle goes for around $9.

What a spot in the middle of town! Great prices! I go there as often as possible. Beats the heck out of the outrageous prices and "nose stuck up in the air" types in Napa.
