If Im in the mood for wine tasting, but not in the mood to drive south to Temecula or up north to Napa this is my go-to spot. Hidden away in the Santa Monica mountains semi-close to Malibu beach (but not close enough to feel the beautiful beach weather so come prepared and dressed appropriately). Wine tasting prices seem reasonable for 5 or 6 glasses/tasters, but I usually get a bottle to myself. Bottle of Merlot is roughly $30~ and it is super delicious. Prices range between high $20s and low $40s. Some fancy bottles go beyond $40/$50, but avoid those. Area has a capacity limit that they are starting to enforce that is set to 600. If they are at capacity they will not let people in unless you have a prior reservation. Area is decent sized and seems like it can fit more than 600, but regardless good sized area. There is an "upstairs" area which is more of an "up-the-hill" area usually reserved and the general seating area. Seats/tables in front of the stage where live music is at and general grass area throughout the site. There is a cute little shop when you walk in to your left for souvenirs/goodies. Another photo spot with fake wine barrels and fake wine pouring out. Big giant WINE signage for another photo spot once you walk in. And there is a mini school bus (usually reserved) for seating amongst other things. No food served here, but you can bring your own snacks/treats. Definitely check this place out!

I recently visited Malibu Wines for the first time, and had a lot of fun! My group brought in a bunch of food and non-alcoholic drinks (they dont sell food) and had a nice, relaxing picnic on a Sunday. I definitely recommend getting there right after the tasting room opens if you want a good spot. I went with a small group, and we arrived early to grab a table (otherwise you have to pay to reserve a table). Within half an hour after the first few of us arrived, the place was getting packed. Our table bought a bottle of the Orange Muscat. I wasnt sure of how the wines here would taste, but my fiance and I were both impressed--the wine was light and sweet. The guy I talked to on the phone sounded kind of rude and unhappy when I asked about the spending requirements if we sat at a table. However, all the staff members we encountered the day we went were very friendly. Parking is easy. They valet at the location, or you can park in the free lot 1-2 minutes away and take the free shuttle.

Worth a visit just for the location, however, it was extremely crowded. The wine needs some serious aging, not really good let alone great, but sorry, Ive been a wino for quite some time and was very disappointed. The bartenders were pretty slow and seemed more interested in chatting each other up instead of pouring. The bands were really good and the atmosphere is rather nice, if you cant make it to Los Olivos, much less Paso Robles, I guess this is ok for a few hours. Be aware that the earlier hours 10-1 seem to be the 20 & 30 somethings while the boomers seem to prefer the later hours. Weather is very iffy, can be very cold and foggy, then the sun arrives and you are sweating until a few minutes later that the fog rolls in again...bring a jacket and if you want a table youd better make a reservation..I personally dont plan on going back will spend the extra hour heading up to Santa Barbara Wine country.

Not good, they are not worth (one) star! Do not buy the wine membership!!!! I had the worst experience. We purchased the wine membership hoping to come back, & we did, only to get a bad experience. They send me an e mail telling me my wine was ready to be picked up & when we went there, they did not have it!.. The place was full of bees!!! Then I went back a second time to pick up the wine & they did not find me in their system so I could not get the wine! I called the office to cancel because of that issue; they said that it was my fault for not writing my name in a legible way!!! Then I found out that they have charged for the wine to my credit card already & will not refund because of the small print stated when you sign for the membership.

Planned my birthday here; drinks and friends. Drove 45 min to be told " is that car dropping you off because you have to get back in kids are not allowed". You would think booking a big party that someone would inform you of this restriction. I was also, rudely told that it is on the website: "strictly no children". How about letting in less pompous pretentious women and men, and allowing more humans AKA TWO MONTH OLD Babies. Was planning on having my wedding celebrations here. Absolutely not and will surely be spreading the word. Change your policy, put a kids section, dont do anything. However, learn what good customer service is. Americans have lost this. Cheers.

Group parties beware! 14$ valet parking which is ridiculous. Went for a party for a friend who called and reserved the gazebo. They specifically asked if they could bring a photographer and was told as long as you dont take pictures of the guests its fine. The day of the manager says you have to pay thousands of dollars to take pictures here, and wont let my friend take pictures. The manager refuses to let her talk to the owner. Rip off around every corner, barely any shade, astroturf everywhere. The wine was okay though and you probably wont care about the lack of customer service once youre smashed.

I mean, really, whats there to say about this place that you havent already heard. Its picture perfect. You take a 30 minute drive up a mountainous area, park a mile away from this place then take a shuttle to get to it. You fill up your basket with a bunch of cheeses, crackers, sides, and other picnic-y items, and spend your day there. Simple as that. Beware, they dont allow you to bring in outside wine, you have to buy their own. Which actually tastes good and isnt TOO crazy expensive. If you have a large group, or if you want a good seat, make sure to get there early because spots FILL UP!

Its probably due to lack of awareness or research on my part but when I hear Malibu wines, I envision drinking wines close to the beach, the salty water slightly splashing in my hair. This Malibu Wines location is far more inland, but the wine is good and affordable. If youre in the Malibu area feel free to drive more inland to enjoy some wine and during the weekends its free music as you sit down and enjoy. Feel free to bring your own snacks and food or a blanket and you can make a picnic out of it.
