This place is absolutely repulsive. They have zero regard for compassion towards human beings. My sister was engaged for 6 months. She chose purple orchid as the venue for her wedding. Fast forward, after a devastating and heart breaking stream of events, she was forced to call off the engagement just a couple weeks after she had put down her $5,000 deposit. She called purple orchid to explain her devastating situation and asked if there was any possibility to get her money back. She was told that there was absolutely no way that they could provide a refund, and had the audacity to ask her to sign a document to release that date so that they could rebook. We completely understand that the venue is under no obligation to refund her. She did not expect them to refund her right away. She asked them if she could get her money back if and when that date is booked and locked in by someone else. Their answer was a firm no. Essentially she paid them $5,000 just to have her name on their books. They now have that date available and they will be profiting off of someone else and get to keep her money as well. This is complete robbery. The lack of compassion possessed by this business needs to be out there for other people to be aware of as a warning. If they lack the decency to not profit off of someones misfortune, who knows what else they are capable of. This is a money hungry business and they do NOT have your best interest at heart.

My husband and I just returned from the most relaxing and romantic Valentines weekend at the Purple Orchid Inn in the Celestial Moon suite (2013). This resort is a hidden jewel in the Livermore Valley Wine Country! Shortly after checking in, we were personally welcomed by owner, Rhiannon, at our suite with a lovely fruit bowl, a breakfast menu for in-suite dinning and a personal invitation to their afternoon wine and appetizer social in the main lodge. We ended up staying for 3 nights our experience was so wonderful and went to the Valentines Winemaker dinner they hosted Saturday night which was impeccable! I was truly impressed with owner Dereks knowledge of wine. I was looking for wineries with delicious full bodied REDS and the wineries he recommend were spot-on. We will definitely be back. I understand the new owners are working on putting a concert series together. If its anything like what theyve done so far, it should be phenomenal!!!

I worked an event at the Purple Orchid for a weekend. Some of the people who worked the event stayed in the hotel so I was able to see the rooms as well. The event area was nice but a little awkward. The dining and event area was separated by a curtain so when the hotel staff was setting up we could here them from the event side. The bathrooms were also in the diamond area which we thought would be a major problem at the beginning but i ended up never hearing them while the event was going on. The overall look of the place was very nice but they need to update and repair. The main door that we used for the event had the handle fall of a couple times and the door was uneven and would require you to lift it to close it. The room that we used for our event base was very spacious and nice. Overall it was a nice place but needs a little updating before it will be a place that events will want to go.

This place is amazing. Ignore the 2007 comments as the ownership has likely changed. I recently, (June 2011) spent 2 nights and found everything in the room as well as the site amenities, pool, spa, lounge chairs, and grounds in immaculate condition. I requested an early check in and my room was not ready, so they upgraded me without charging me. I consider this a classy, smart, and welcoming gesture. I dont expect that in the future, but for a first time guest, managments decision to do so was noted. The weather in the summer is hot, expect that, but the evenings are warm and wonderful. So close to urban areas, but the location is rural with the stars coming out at night. Easy access to Livermores Wine Country, the Poppy Ridge Golf Course, and the movie theaters in Downtown. I will be back as it is the best B&B value in the Bay Area...Cell phone & computer access no problem. Great value.

I can verify Williams comment, I was told by staff that there has been a very recent management switch. The 2007 comments do not reflect current conditions. Originally I was skeptical about staying here because the man we talked to to make reservations was highly in-personable and unhelpful. However, when we actually arrived for our stay three months later, the management switch had been made. The old staff were gone and the new folks were really nice and helpful. We had lunch and breakfast at the inn which were both delicious. Rooms and grounds were all clean and well maintained. My husband and I enjoyed a massage at the spa and spent hours resting poolside because its so beautiful. Other guests we talked to were raving that they never wanted to leave! Its very close to numerous wineries and downtown Livermore which is worth checking out. We would return.

Had intended to stay for the weekend, but left after one nignt. Room was dusty; furnishing were worn; no toilet paper; pool and spa were full of leaves and TV remote was missing. Advised we would have to use the TV the old fashioned way. TP was eventually brought to room, but placed under sink, not on the empty roller. (Were we suppose to know that?) Breakfast was very sparce and greasy. No fruit or condiments. Glasses were filmy and water spotted. This was our third time there, but well never go back. Staff seemed indifferent and uncaring to guest needs. Rated as a top California BB?? I dont think so. What happened when Karen Hughes left???

Very nice location, with beautiful rounds. Pool is not heated but there is a hot jacuzzi baths to make up for this. Really nice rooms, clean and good bathroom. Includes all you may need. Breakfast was very nice, very filling although lacks selection, the breakfast is cooked there and then for you. Arrived quite late and there was no food available which was unfortunate. Includes free and very good wifi. Would have been nice if the staff in the morning were a little more attentive, rather than leave us waiting 15 minutes for coffee and then chatting whilst waiting to checkout. All in all though great little place with beautiful surrounding grounds.

Relaxing, charming rooms. Great service. Beautiful backdrop. Fireplace in room, games in common area. Breakfast brought to room. Honestly hard to find anything to complain about! I had one tiny issue which was that I did not know the front desk technically closes pretty early and because the Inn keeper was attending to other matters, I was worried I wouldnt be able to check in. Everything worked out, but it is good to know ahead of time, especially so you can give them a heads up.

We had to ask for the advertised amenities: the wine glasses were not on the wine and cheese table, the pool was dirty and not heated, the room was dirty and missing the most basic and expected supplies, and the breakfast was non interesting and barely edible. And, worst of all, the staff evidenced their lack of professionalism with quips for answers and non empathetic responses to our requests for supplies. Needless to say, we had our second night refunded and will not go back.
