Simply the BEST EDWARDS/ REGAL Ever! A close tie with Regal in Pleasanton, CA. Living in Irvine, we are quite spoiled when it comes to movie theaters. If you are like me, you always run to Costco for the $16 for 2 movie passes. Dont be fool and pay $12 a ticket. Unfortunately, not all Edwards are created the same. Ive been to some very very ghetto locations. This is by far my favorite edwards. Dont waste your money going to AMC. You can watch your movie for cheap at this Edwards at the Spectrum. If you dont have Costco passes, there is a Costco on Technology Drive probably less than a mile away. NO EXCUSES! PROS- Located in the pimp Irvine Spectrum. -Costco Passes work anytime any day no restrictions. -Great restaurants at the Spectrum for pre-movie meals -Parkings is great. If you get to the parking stucture around 5pm-7pm on Fri or Sat, this is prime time. So parking maybe tough. As long as you arent watching Dark Knight, you should be fine. Theres always Valet Parking (free for 2 hours for 24 Hour Fitness Members). -Fairly clean compared to most theaters. -Seats are comfie and it is pretty easy to see from any seat. -If there are no Handicap Patrons, use the handicap section for great seats if you get there late. -Rewards Card Movie program is free. So, earn free popcorn, drinks, or movies. -I think you can watch movies before 12pm "early bird" for about $5 or $6 a movie. CONS (sort of)- Dont try to use Costco passes for IMAX. Ive gotten lucky and got an IMAX Ticket. Dont pay the difference, just save your pass for later if you watch IMAX. - You will experience some crazy teenagers, since its in a mall. Try not to go on weekends if this bothers you. -Opening Night for big blockbuster movies can be chaotic. You have to wait in lines outside in the mall area. The staff does not double check tickets on the outside of the theater, and then at the movie. So this means sometimes crazy teenages will run and try to find seats. There is no organized method of moving the line from the Mall outside to the Seats in the theater. No point in camping out, because you may get passed by someone that ran in front of you, once inside the theater. If you cannot afford Costco passes, you need a netflix account :). Highly Recommend! Try not to go Opening Night or Friday/ Saturday if you cant stand a little craziness.

NEVER GOING BACK (and we live close by). The quality of the management and the technical staff at Irvine Spectrum Regal Cinemas is horrible. If I could have rated this a no-star instead of a one-star, I would have. Management is fascist in their enforcement of their no outside food policy. Its a police state. You cant even bring in a half-used bottle of your own water, and water is something we all need and definitely should not have to pay $4.50 a tiny bottle for. It was bad enough yesterday that the technical film crew started up a 3D version of our movie yesterday when the advertised time was clearly for a 2D version. They left it running for over 10 minutes in the 3D version, while of course none of us had the 3D glasses, didnt WANT to see the movie in 3D, and a large contingency went out to speak to management about the problem. After more than 10 minutes, they stopped the movie but left it frozen or paused at a scene and didnt start it up again for another 10 minutes, and then again ran it in 3D!!!!! My husband could clearly see that the crew left the lights on in the film room at the back of the theater and had just left that room completely. He went back out to speak to management AGAIN, and the lady manager continued to argue that the crew was definitely in the back room and working on it, while of course we could see (since that back room light was on) that there was definitely no one there. Obviously there is a terrible lack of communication amongst the management and employees and truly no appropriate and efficient oversight. Worse, management falsely stated that things were being done when they obviously werent. When we finally left the theater for good and went to management to get a refund, they were not apologetic, not customer-service oriented, and not worth keeping. Nor or their technical staff. NEVER GOING BACK (and we live close by).

So going to this theater and seeing a movie in the VIP recliners has become my husband and Is special weekend treat. Until tonight, we went to the movie with our prepaid Fandango tickets. We went up to the bar to order our drinks and popcorn, paid for it all and were going to the seats when the server asked to see my 55 year old husband ID, he had walked out of the house without it, but no worry I have my purse, until they asked for his drink back because he could not prove he was over 21. I am all for liqueur laws and even carding people who are even in the range of 21. So Associate managers Cherokee and Ryan, both state that it is a state law for movie theaters to card everyone regardless of how obvious it is that a person meets the law. So I question them and say we have been here many many times and have never been carded before and advise them that been to other movie theaters and have not been carded. In fact last time we were there that another guest was so drunk that disturbed the whole theater. We went and got security but did not make a ruckus. So now my point, come to find out it is not a state liqueur law or a city law but their rule. Great but can we please have some common sense? My husband is handsome but near to even trying to look 21, sorry but no. So needless to say because of all this we missed the beginning of our movie and unfortunately affected our night. Not to certain how long these two associate managers will be managers but they probably should learn customer service before their title go to their heads.

This is my go to theater when I want to see a blockbuster film. This is one of the biggest theaters in Irvine and its a perfect place to see big movies. Their tickets are usually a few dollars more than usual at other Edwards theaters, but its worth it for me to see it in the bigger theaters. Its one of the most crowded too so make sure you come early to get your tickets if youre planning to buy them at the ticket booth, or just buy them online to avoid the wait. Even if you are buying them at the ticket booth make sure to check fandango or regal before hand since they have a lot of different theaters. DO NOT check a website other than those two, as they usually dont specify what type of theater youre getting into. They have IMAX, RPX, VIP, and a lot of the theaters are reserved seating. Ive noticed a lot of people dont know this ahead of time and they end up having to pay extra or just end up not seeing a movie they want because of this, so make sure. Also be aware that they do have a few tiny theaters in the back where they play movies that have been out for a while. I saw 007 Skyfall here around 2 weeks after it was out and they put us in the smallest theater Ive ever been in. If youre here to see a new movie though you shouldnt have to worry about it.
