As a first timer heard great things about this place. As a big horse racing fan I was very pleased. Very clean , great scenery, a bit disappointed on the track and infield a bit, just spoiled with the great race place in my back yard. Two bones to pick. 1. The deli. Wanted to see if Del Mar compared to the great food at Santa Anita. Not even close. Ordered a roast beef from the deli closest to the towel give away section in the stadium club. Flies flew freely all over the slabs of meat. The chef carving the meat put up no fight to shew them away. As I waited for my sandwich to be made, it was clear there were many flying and landing ON THE MEAT. The meat about to be put on my sandwich. I couldnt take it any longer. I confronted the chef, he replied and stated its not his job to shew them away. I was beyond shocked and disgusted. I then asked for my money back. Also to speak to the manager who over heard and then started shewing the flies away with a cardboard cup tray. She apologized but I was more taken away on the chef and workers for seeing this and making no effort to do anything to fix their fly problem. They took it as"well its not our sandwich" type. I couldnt believe my eyes and ears at that. Second bone. The beer stand on the second level nearest the private party area facing the track. A woman named Janis sold us beers that had fallen and tops were mangled and no way can a mouth sip from it. Said thats all she has and doesnt know what to do. I simply explained, pour into a cup and problem solved. This stand was convenient and about 15ft from our seats. Easy access to the restrooms as well so I didnt feel I had to walk the entire place to purchase beer when I can walk to this stand. Later went back for two more for my wife and I. Asked for two tecate lights, Janis the worker said you know these are all I have as she slammed two more mangled cans. She then said" I dont know why you keep coming back here". I was taken back with the attitude and treatment from this lady. I paid good money to enjoy my time with my wife, didnt expect this type of treatment from this lady. Customer service gets an F and should be for fired after that treatment. Never expected any special treatment, just the common curtesy and respect like we all deserve. Great environment. Clean track. Just a bad food experience, and a mean lady in the beer stand :)

My family and I were planning a festive day at the track on Sunday, as we have had many other memorable moments there in the past. This time we decided to take UBER, instead of driving ourselves and dealing with the traffic and weather.. Upon arriving, our driver was allowed to enter thru the main gate and though once in, we were only allowed to proceed an additional 50 The UBER driver was instructed, by a lot attendant, to exit the property and deposit his passengers at this point It was suggested,by the driver to drive to the entrance gate in order to accommodate the race tracks guests, again he was told no by the lot attendant. I love the rain and we need it badly, I just did not plan on my family and I hoofing thru the parking lot with all its water filled potholes. A thrill everyone should experience once in there lifetime. The Del Mar Track needs to address the guest drop off and pick-up situation as well as the parking situation, sooner rather than later.Passenger transportation companies are growing rapidly and your business needs to adapt to the change. The Del Mar Track should make every effort to allow a guest easy access to and from there business, as thats how you grow your revenue, thru additional guests. Just a thought.

For all these people saying horse are abused and treated like crap and blah blah blah....these horses do what they love to do best, run, run, run....they eat well get treated well and live very good lives, for you that say they have broken legs and are drugged to go run again are absurd....injuries are a part of every sport, football, basketball, baseball, you name it....its people like you that the King of all sports declines.....these horses are given a life that they enjoy....you think the great Zenyatta hated her life or hates it less now that shes retired ???? Lol no...my dog tucker only wants to go outside 24 7 to play ball and run to catch it and bring it back, thats what these animals enjoy...get over animal.abuse and PETA and other bullcrap.......horse racing is a fun filled family environment for all ages

I live near Del Mar Racetracks and I go to the horse races once every season. This year, on August 16, I made a $2 bet on a horse and won $15. I was soo happy! Well, when I wanted to cash out my fortune - they took my ticket, canceled it, and returned it to me together with my $2. Reason: The ticket that was issued to me had a bet for a race in AUSTRALIA and not in Del Mar!!!! I was shocked! Instead of admitting a clerical error and paying my symbolic award I was told to look carefully next time when I buy my ticket. SHAME ON YOU DEL MAR RACETRACK!

Lots of history here - and a whole lot of fun things to do. The track is well laid out and there are plenty of betting areas for those that want to be and a lot of room for those that simply want to watch the races. The atmosphere is pretty laid back and you can bring your own fold up chair to sit down in the General Admission area. Would recommend going on the days where they have deals for admission and food - if you dont bet (or if you only bet a little) it is some of the cheapest entertainment around.

I am not any sort of authority on horse racing, and I have only been to a few racetracks, but this one is itself physically beautiful, sitting in a great place, and I can think of few places where Id rather spend an afternoon, or a whole day, especially when it is sunny and there is a sea breeze. It is timeless. You feel you could be in the 1920s or 30s, or hanging with the rat pack in the 50s. It is a wonderful experience in almost every way (especially if youre winning).

Whether you go for the day or weekend, you dont need to love the races to enjoy a few days at Del Mar. The setting is timeless. Its a classy party and wonderful racing. You can meet the horsemen, people out to have fun an see great racing. The theater is on the track and in the stands. No SoCal summer is complete without going to Del Mar. If you can, take the train. Its a short, inexpensive and fun ride in great comfort. Its the perfect way to go.

Yes, Del Mar is pretty complete with an ocean view. But, there is no such thing as horse racing fans; just horse racing gamblers and owners who breed these magnificent horses to find one-in-a-million winner. The thousands of others die during training, racing, or are shipped off to slaughter in horrendous conditions to Mexico or Canada. Please boycott horse racing until it dies out for the horses sake. Thanks.
