Ive been to only a handful of shows at the Soda Bar and have had a so-so experience at each one. However, last night I went to see one of my faves , THE OCEAN. Let me say that I have a new found respect for the joint. The ambiance and sound were pretty damn on point last night. It gave me a whole new perspective on the place and I would definitely consider booking a show there for my band. The Good -Good sound -Full Bar w/ PBR -Old School Arcade Games The Bad -Cash Only -Hipsters/Dead Musicians that stand as still as cow dung, with their arms crossed, not enjoying themselves. BUT TAKING UP VALUABLE HEAD BANGING REAL ESTATE IN FRONT OF THE STAGE. -No Parking Lot

Im giving this 4 stars because they get some good acts in here and drinks are affordable. However, the setup in here is really bizarre for a place that seems to take music so seriously. A bar in the middle while the stage is in the back corner. Arcade games pinging away in the front corner. Some of the booths dont really have a view of the stage. That said, we arrived really early for a concert and were able to snag a booth with a somewhat decent view of the stage - which was great since I didnt want to stand all night long! However, if I had chosen to stand, I could have been up front and center pretty easily. A very intimate venue.

Both as a patron and a performer I have had nothing but terrible times here. Though the bar was not that crowded I waited over 10 minutes to get a drink but the bartender was busy looking half asleep while talking to some friends at the other end. I then walked to another bar down the street and immediately got served a drink as soon as I walked in. Then from a performers view: Shoddy sound system, the sound guy was no where to be found when I was supposed to be hooked up and performing, and yes I also had a hard time getting a drink that night as well.

Great little venue with awesome live music (I did go when my fave band was playing, The Dollyrots, so Im a little biased about the music, but the other bands playing with them Id never heard and they were pretty great as well). The bartender was amazing and if he didnt know a drink hed look it up and make it for you. They had ice cold water for free in a metal keg near the front and a well maintained restroom. I absolutely loved this place and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and rockin night out.

Drinks and music. Thats what I like. Soda bar has both. Good size place to have a nice sized crowd, but small enough to keep it an intimate setting. The layout of this place is kind of funky, which is why Im taking away a star. When you walk in there is the bar in the middle, booths to one side and video games on the other. The stage is situated in the corner, so if youre sitting in the booth closest to the door, you cant see the stage. Other than that, I give this two very big thumbs up.

Really enjoyed the live music. The Bloodflowers hard driving rock and roll band got me on the dance floor. One of the best bands in San Diego! The craft beer was pricy at $8 per pint. But the well liquor and other beer was reasonable. The round booth seating is very comfortable. The bar stools not so much. Its a friendly place to go. Ill be back.

Pretty good live music spot among the myriad of live music dive bars in north park and city heights. I like that it is split between the music and the bar section. Not to the degree the Ken club is, but a clear delineation between those who came to sit and those who came to dance.

Somewhat of a no-mans land area of town, but definitely worth the trip. Great place to see a band up close and personal. Weird layout with the bar down the middle of the room, but it seems to work. Good ticket prices. Easy parking compared to other areas of the city.

Great to see Peter Bradley Adams but there was one guy with big hair and a big hat blocking the view for many of us. Someone should have offered him a chair. Otherwise I was comfortable. Parking was difficult, be prepared to WALK from a long distance.

This is a pretty cool bar. I like how close the bands get. Andy Frasco was an awesome show! This place usually opens their doors at 8:30pm. Ive also seen Jakubi, Nikole Atkins, Arc Iris, and Emily Wolfe to name a few bands.

Bring some ear plugs, this place gets loud! Its one of the smaller venues that occasionally brings in some awesome underground talent. Good choice of drinks, good people, and great sound.

Super tiny venue with good brews and a decent place to see whatever bands end up playing this place. Saw a swedish swing hip hop group play here and it was awesome.

In a short amount of time, this place has become an elite place to see live music. One if the very best places in san diego to see live music...if not the best.

A fun place for a show. Cheap cover (usually), good drinks, good service (when I went anyways). Lots of good bands play here. It is in an odd location.

Great place for a concert. I was lucky to have seen Veruca Salt and on another night the Mynabirds. The Mynabirds show was the better show of the two.

Terrible venue with horrible service. Smells like piss everywhere. Owner and bar tender were both extremely rude and obviously on drugs.
