My favorite public park in Cerritos, Heritage Park has witnessed many a family BBQ, wedding/quinceanera/prom photo shoot & lazy outdoor picnic. Located across the street from Cerritos High & adjacent to the library, civic center & police station, Heritage Park has a little something for the entire family. My favorite area - the Colonial Town Island Surrounded by a moat filled with ducks, koi & turtles (unfortunately, people dump their unwanted fish & turtles here and at most bodies of fresh water), the island has an interconnected childrens jungle gym interspersed inside the mock Colonial buildings, including a ship with cannons at the ready. Caution - there is no barrier to keep kids from falling into the moat. I know, I was one of them. I remember going on a field trip from Mary Bragg Elementary to Heritage Park. Towards the end of the field trip, I happened to be throwing berries from the trees to the ducks & fell in halfway, bisecting me like a flukeworm. Half in the water, half not in the water. I quickly got out, showing the water isnt very deep. Good times! Other areas of interest are the basketball courts, baseball field & the other playground off the island. Both playgrounds have the safe bouncy rubber flooring, keeping kids safe from falls & from the idiots who would put razor blades in the sand. During the summer, the City of Cerritos offers Concerts Under the Stars. Free musical entertainment for citizens and non-citizens alike, with free kids activities like a bounce house and food available for a nominal fee from local businesses & Cerritos Gadabouts. It all culminates with the Patriot Day concert on 9/11. Parking is located at the lot on Bloomfield & in the residential area. When I park residentially, I head north on Bloomfield, hang a right on 183rd, making the first right which leads to the park. After school hours, parking is also available at Cerritos High. Parks are fun! And, Heritage Park is no exception. Its a great place to take the young ones and enjoy some fresh air, away from video games, tablet computers & the funky cartoons that kids watch these days. I still dont get SpongeBob Squarepants Robotech, The Real Ghostbusters, Gummy Bears, Duck Tales, Garfield & Friends etc. - Now were talking! ;p Highly recommend!

Today my friend (both of us 17 years old) and I decided to visit the park for the first time to do homework and have a picnic because of how appealing and safe it looked. Suddenly a young teenage girl approached us on a skateboard, she quickly asked us if we lived around here and we said no, and she then explains that her cousin had been shot in the same park. We figured she just wanted to warn us, but boy were we wrong. She said that she seeked revenge and wanted the people at the park to pay she pulled out a gun to our faces and immediately our hearts dropped and we feared for our lives, she asked us to give up our phones and asked what carrier we had. Once we told her what carriers we had she asked for money instead but we didnt have any on us. After that she asked what kind of backpack my friend had and to empty it out, but all that came out was homework so obviously she didnt want that but asked to give her the backpack that was just worth $50. Once we handed her the backpack, she walked away and said "you guys were cool about this, and this NEVER happened." It was a Saturday morning (10 am) and the surroundings were filled with kids and adults, the last thing we expected was to be robbed at gun point. Its a shame that i had such a horrific and traumatizing experience, my life had never been threatened before. My friend and i immediately left and we will never come back, please be careful and cautious if you see a teenage girl approaching you on a skateboard. Crazy that this happened to us in an area that is allegedly safe.

This park is fantastic! Im kind of a big kid, so coming here with my 3yr old son was a blast for both of us. The island is literally the best thing in the world! This park is super clean! Very well maintained. The concept of the island being themed from older times is amazing. It gives kids a great opportunity to use their imaginations while they run around playing. All the little houses on the island have play equipment, so youre kids can climb around and slide all through the houses. The boat is a fantastic idea. The clever design of the island gives it feeling like its bigger than it seems with secrete passages, multi level paths and unique decor. The water surrounding the island is full of birds and turtles which makes it exciting for little ones. The grass areas are very nice. The grass is obviously kept to a high standard and is very clean. The play area for the kids are separated into 3 areas seemingly to cater to different age groups. The first one from the parking lot is catered to small kids, the next has more technical play things and higher slides. The third is the biggest with tall ladders and slides. There are shades installed onto the play equipment to keep the kids cool on a hot day. The parking lot is a good size, plus the park neighbors residential areas where Street parking is available. The restrooms are very clean, and not just for a public park. They are actually very clean. While we were there we saw the park staff walking around making sure kids are safe and the place is clean. This is a great park!

I love this Park it is one of my favorites. although I did like it better before they changed it. the reason I do not like how it is today is because of the materials that were used on the ground on the island. Its still my favorite park and always will be. When I was a little girl, My favorite part of the island was the toboggan like slide on the backside of the church. I wish they wouldnt have put so many monkey bars, but unfortunately change in this world is inevitable . I recommend heritage park to everybody that ever gets a chance to go to southern California. I am from Bay City Oregon. Its a little town 5 miles north of Tillamook. land of cheese trees and ocean breeze and unfortunately s*** up to our knees. Sorry for that last comment but thats where I come from. The little town where Im from is making a new little Park (making us have 2 parks and not just the one)and wants to use that rubber stuff that is used at Heritage and I am recommending them not to . The reason is because it feels like its just bouncy kind of awkward in my opinion. Mainly because it really hurts when you fall on it. Trust me Ive done at many times. I know everybodys into the recycling stuff but I just dont think it isnt what we need for a park in a place that rain 9 months of the year. This part is definitely 10 on my list and I will always be.

The little park is great for kids. I took my cousin to play there and follow him around to watch over him. They have different sections there is the boat where they can pretend to be sailor or simply look down in the water for fishes that swim around or turtles. Their is gueese and ducks waddling around, they are really friendly. It is a really peaceful place to be at. People even go to take pictures of quinciañeras and stuffs. The bathroom are not very clean though. But at least they are flushable. Parking is always avaliable and the playground and basketball courts are well-maintained.
