The entrance to Palomares Road said the road was "closed", but the Westover Winery website said to go around the barrier because the closure was further up. I am so happy we did! I was not a port drinker because I had not had decent port until then. Too sweet, too cloying, too I dont know. After many tastings of their port and a little sample of something out of the barrel, I am a port drinker - a Westover port drinker! We had a wonderful time hanging out with the owner and the wine maker, listening to their funny stories about how it all came together, and sampling loads of very good wines. The decor made me feel like we were in some old-country Italian living/kitchen/rec room - nothing fancy, but cozy and it feels like the farm/vineyard is right there. The bottle price points are just right for a private winery - good enough to make these wines drinkable any time we want something a little bit special (nearly every weekend, Id say). So go, visit, and see what its like to get nice, personalized service from a small winery.

I happened to be at Ladies night at Dale Hardware in Fremont a couple of weeks ago and Westover Winery had a booth there. It was so much fun I decided to ride out to their winery and check it out. I was the only customer at the time and was going to purchase a bottle of Port for Thanksgiving dinner and make a quick getaway. I ended up spending over an hour talking to Ken the winemaker about how Port is made to everything under the stars.Several times I said I should be going to let him get back to work but he said not to worry and he was enjoying himself too. I also got to meet the owner who was very nice. I learned a lot about Port. had a great time, So much so I will be back with my wife and friends. Added bonus, Ken also told me they have free concerts there!

Me and my girlfriend ended up stumbling upon this winery randomly one day while driving through Castro Valley, walking in for a random visit not really knowing what to expect. Even they though they were closed for tastings that day they gladly led us into the tasting room where Ken (who has a Santa Claus-esque figure to him) proceeded to host the bar with his jolly enthusiastic love for wine and knowledge to match. I did not feel looked down upon for my lack of knowledge but more encouraged to try new wines and learn how, when and where these styles were made. Overall i feel like they stood true to the happy go lucky attitude and the reason they made their wine. Simply because they love doing it.

This small but intimate winery is a favorite. Head on up for a very personalized tasting experience! Buy some wine, shoot a game of pool, have a picnic. It is a beautiful setting and the people there are very friendly and will make you feel like you can come and hang out there. Im a long time (20 year) customer of theirs and I highly recommend their wines, their setting, and the experience in general. They have the largest selection of ports I have ever seen! They are a great place to hold your next private party or family event such as a wedding. Check them out - they will not disappoint!

I visited on a corporate event held here and took a tour....very cool place, great wine of course. The lunch was served cafeteria style which was unappealing to me and the food was good...I had lasagna....great little store near entrance for interesting foods and treats. Would I go out of my way for a second visit? no.

Great place, great port, great wine. The owners, Bill and his wife, and Randy are wonderful hosts and offer generous pours while pouring on a good time. They make you feel like you are in your own living room drinking great wine with friends. Whats better than great wine with great friends!

Small owner operated winery that has an amazingly large selection of ports. The hours are a bit irregular - usually the second weekend every month, but its worth taking some time to fit it into your schedule. The drive along Palomares is beautiful, but windy. Be sure to drive safely.

Fantastic time here! A great place to learn about ports, and a fantastic and wide selection of wines. Plus the owners are great hosts and make sure everyone has a great time. Looking forward to visiting in the spring too as this place sits right in a nature escape!

Had too much fun. The owner was a great host. Felt like we were visiting family. They kept pouring and everything was amazing. Stopped by while driving through canyon. Got lucky that they were open. Planned on 20-30 minutes, ended up spending the day.

Very friendly! They were closed but opened up just so I could taste. The owner had an enjoyable conversation with me while we enjoyed wines. I would recommend it to other people!
