El fin de semana pasado visité el Museo del Barrio. Me pareció que era pequeño, pero todavía tenía una calidad divertida y vibrante que no estaba acostumbrado a experimentar en los museos. Me pareció importante que represente una variedad de culturas no europeas en sus programas y colecciones. El Museo del Barrio rompe las tendencias típicas de los muchos museos que se centran en el arte occidental. Muestra de arte de Puerto Rico y la cultura hispana, además de incluir obras de arte que van a contrapelo de la historia del arte formalista. "El Ojo Ilusorio" fue mi favorito, porque lo transmite una sensación de movimiento que iba más allá de la percepción visual. Se puso en práctica un juego de percepción de las cosas visibles e invisibles, una metáfora de la falta de visibilidad de los artistas latinoamericanos. Otra de mis favoritas era "Redecode" por Joiri Minaya. Me recordó a Picasso con sus geometrías cúbicas y dicotomía entre el espacio y el suelo. El guía dijo que estas obras de arte no convencionales ofrecen una manera de explorar la fantasía, la creatividad, la domesticación, el placer y la historia general asociada con la cultura de América Latina y el paisaje. El Museo del Barrio es una institución educativa que apoya el orgullo hispánico y el conocimiento. Es algo muy especial para alimentar las culturas en el mundo. Además, el museo es tan importante porque preserva y difunde el arte y la cultura no sólo de los puertorriqueños, sino de todos los latinoamericanos.

Esta el primero vez para mi visitar el Museo del Barrio en Nueva York, creo que lo muy interesante porque se tiene muchas obras diferentes. Por ejemplo, hay pinturas modernas, clásicas, y técnicas mixtas. Pero la pintura me parece es mas interesante que del otros es “Puerto Rican Peíta” de David Antonio Cruz. El “Puerto Rican Peíta” esta un hombre y su madre; ella esta protegiendo su hijo como la Virgen María y Jesús en el “Peíta” origínale de Michelangelo. Me gusta porque esta e origínale son similares como la proporcionalidad entre el hijo y madre. Esta importante debido a que la madre parce ser mas grande que su hijo, por lo tanto creyendo la impresión esta es protegiéndolo. También, es claro que están matices sexuales, especialmente del hijo. Su pantalones están abiertos, y su expresión facial es muy sensual. Me parece que la significa es la relación única entre la madre y su hijo – no es sexual pero es especial, además, tal vez simbólico de la cultura Machísimo en América Latina. El “Puerto Rican Peíta” de David Antonio Cruz es una obra muy interesante y una representación de la cultura hispánico y catolicismo. Visita el Museo del Barrio, esta el obro de Cruz y muchos otros!

...kam entnervt aus einem voellig ueberfuellten guggenheim-museum. Im museo war hingegen kaum was los; die aufseher haben mir von sich aus was zu den gut kuratierten und interessanten zeitgenoessischen arbeiten erzaehlt. Das ganze hat einfach eine total intime atmosphaere und einen hohen anspruch. Ausserdem waren in der eingangshalle super interessante arbeiten von kindern ausgestellt. Diese sichtweise auf kunst ist sozial und umfassend. Ich fands sympathisch und echt!

Es algo muy especial para alimentar las culturas en el mundo además de alimentar al alma y al espíritu es algo que cada persona tiene que vivirlo, Esa experiencia tan hermosa y especial para todas las personas que aman del arte y lo ondo de cada alma ,personas.

Very disappointing...too small, one or two pieces of a few countries...not enough to walk away with knowledge or enlightenment of what our culture is about. As a Latina, I would like to see a museum that I can take my children and friends to teach them about our culture…show paintings and sculptures. As a Puerto Rican woman, I would like to see more of our great artists. Young people of Puerto Rican descent in NY don’t even know there’s such a thing as the Puerto Rican Waltz…We left empty…very sad!

One of my all time favorite museums in New York City nestled on top of Museum Row. This museum dedicates itself to telling the stories of latinos in NYC. Their Super Sabado (Third Saturday?) is the best where you can bring your entire family for free and become educated on Latino art and do some hands on arts and crafts with the kids. The museum is always a suggested donation so everyone is welcome. The quality of art rivals that of any museum along 5th Ave but speaks more to the soul of NYC.

Fui con un poco de desconfianza, porque al estar cerca de otros grandes museos pensé que iba a ser de mucha menor calidad, pero me encontré con una muestra de Kinetic y Op Art latinoamericano muy buena!!....

Очень маленькая галерея, внимания не заслуживает. Но! дают билеты в музей NY, а за вход можете заплатить сколько угодно (обычная цена 9долл). Так что стоит зайти хотя бы за билетами

This museum is one the most smallest museums Ive been to. Nothing much to see here, they change their gallery and shows time to time but not really worth my time really. I rather go to the Metropolitan. Im a little disappointed when I came here. At most Ill be here for 30minutes and leave with disappointment. I got some lecture to understand the past but I can easily obtain them online.

This is a fun, vibrant, engaging museum and Ive never been to another one like it. I really enjoyed my visit, the only thing that would of made it better was if I could of caught a tour or been able to learn more about the history of the exhibits. Unfortunately the timing of my visit didnt allow for that. The gift shop is worth checking out as they have a bunch of unique items.

was alwaya a fan of the gift shop when years ago they had a sale in which was a very heavy stock Frida Kahlo poster I had never seen before, I bought it and hung it in my classroom where it stayed for 10 years what a fantastic buy at about TWO dollars The collection in small - -as people are quick to say-- , yes,.... but i dont like large collections; they wear me out !

Great museum to go learn about Latino culture and just go and enjoy your heritage. The museum has so many employees that are familiar with the neighborhood and will always be willing to talk to you about it. There are so many interesting people that walk through the galleries and its easy to strike up a conversation with the. Go check it out!

If you havent been to El Museo in over two years, hurry up. After the renovation, they have step up their events, performances and exhibition. Summertime they often host a series of concerts, some which take place in their rooftop. Their membership is inexpensive and gives you a lot of access to great events.

My friend had her wedding ceremony in the lobby. She was suppose to have it across the street at Central park but it rain out. They charged her $200 to have the ceremony in the lobby. Years later returned to see the "Caribbean Crossroads" exhibit.

Even though is small, it has a collection of art and the personal is opened to give you any direction. After a quit visit to the museum you also can go to the Musseum of NYC is next to this and enjoy of best part of the Workd Central Part.

A FANTASTIC ART MUSEUM!!!! Fairly small, you can probably cover it in an hour. The security guards are friendly, and last time I went, a local performance artist was being showcased. Just really like the vibe lol its so colorful.
