Saw "A Night With Janis Joplin" last night. The best show weve seen in a long time. (As long-time season ticket holders here and at the Paramount, we see a lot of shows) More like a rock concert with a polite, attentive audience than a typical formula musical, this show was a refreshing change. The talent was phenomenal! The singer who was Janice has a voice powerful and gravelly enough to carry off the music, and her guts on the stage delivery was very believable. As a very pleasant surprise, this show featured several other famous blues singers as part of the story, and the women singing these parts were absolutely awesome! The band was great as well - a perfect performance. The only negative: the writer downplays the booze and ignores the drugs which were such an intrinsic part of her life and short career, offering a much more cheerful interpretation than the stoned, depressing reality. (This does allow the audience to appreciate a more feel-good experience.) In all, the performance was full of Incredible talent and, especially if you are a Joplin fan, is not to be missed. A final note...be sure to check out the ASL interpreters - they were rocking it! Were hoping the theater will bring in more "different" productions - including rock music shows and the occasional non-musical drama.

About a week ago I saw "Waterfall" which was a wonder musical that brought me to tears. I do have few negative things to say about his musical though. I felt the opening song could have sounded much more powerful or more exciting because Noppon is moving to this new exciting place, and personally he didnt seem too excited. Also it looked like the actors in the background dancing werent in sync with each other, and i dont know if that was intentional or not but definitely something to work on. My last criticism is (spoiler) when Katherine died, Noppon didnt act as devastated as I would have expected. Im just saying this because Katherine was his first love and he was there as Katherine died that night. It just seems like a devastating moment for Noppon. Other then those three things the musical was fantastic and I wish I could see it again with the amazing seats I got! Overall I would give this about 4 1/2 stars or 5 stars.

The atmosphere is excellent! Last night was my first time in this theatre. The staff were extremely kind and friendly. I asked one staff if there was wifi available and he attempted to find the password for me. He couldnt find it on his device so he asked me to take a seat, and hed bring it to me afterwards. Great gesture! The hall was very unique. I noticed the Asian feeling as I noticed the design of the walls. Im probably biased because I very much love the Chinese historical look. The seats were a bit small but it reflects the age of the theatre. The view was pleasant as the heads in front of me was not obstructing it. The sound was nice throughout the show (The Little Mermaid). I didnt use the facilities there but trust that its as clean as the rest of the theatre.

I was so disappointed in the Grease production at the 5th Avenue Theater yesterday. Love, Love, Love the movie but the 5th Ave production was very flat (except for Rizzo & Frenchie!). The male characters were barely differentiated and Danny woefully blended into the background. Isnt the name of the production Grease? Not one of the male characters had a greased duck hairdo! Amagin.. Would have been so easy to make the simple changes that would have turned this musical into the richly-deserved blockbuster it is - p.s. the plea for donations by the actors during the finale was a bit of a turn-off - I felt obligated to put $5.00 in the bucket at the door..Too bad.

Went to Grease last night with my family. This production was in poor taste. Lots of vulgar language and a cast member even "BAd" the audience. There were a ton of kids in the audience under the age of 10 and I just personally think this is the worst performance I have ever seen throughout all my years of attending live productions and plays. Also..for a Theater that rakes in an Estimated 200K per show it was in poor taste to get the actors to stand up at the end of the show and ask for donations when I paid over $400 for upper level seats. Donate 10% of your own tickets sales and have some class.

This is the BEST place to watch musicals if youre in Seattle. Nosebleed sections arent even that bad compared to the Paramount. Seriously, its hard getting a bad seat here and they offer great deals ALL the time. I have a season subscription and LOVE that it comes with free parking. Not to mention, they partner with a number of restaurants in the area and offer special discounts when you show them your ticket stub from a show. The acoustics are also really great. The oriental decor is pretty cool. I just love every production Ive seen here so far.

Last night, on a trip with my class I went to see The Sound of Music. The show was amazing. Their lack of handicap access was not. Is it even legal to not have railings to the seats or an elevator that can accommodate a wheelchair? Unbelievable. There were stairs to get to all the ladys rooms and there was not elevator to go down to the workshop in the theatre basement. Im sure at one point in time those floors had been even but sadly they no longer are. This is unreasonable and violates the Architectural Barriers Act.

Absolutely fantastic venue! My fiancée and I came here for a show recently and I have to say, we loved it! The aesthetic of the theater is also beautiful, with many ornate Asian inspired carvings along the banisters and awnings, not to mention the elegant dragon chandelier. The seats can be a bit pricey, but the production value and the quality of the actors involved are well worth seeing! If you have the opportunity, treat yourself!

Les Miserables, On The Town, Bombay Dreams, The Buddy Holly Story, Jersey Boys, Company, West Side Story, Sound of Music (sing-a-long!) Wicked...these are just a few of the shows Ive seen at the 5th. Im always dazzled by the Chinese lanterns and Asian-inspired decor of this theater - it never gets old. Conveniently located downtown within walking distance of several parking garages. Best seats are in the mezzanine, in my opinion.

While the decor might be a bit, to put it mildly...an "ornate oriental extravaganza explosion" - what else did you expect from a Norwegian interior designer who got his inspiration from his one-time visit to China in the late 1920s? - this theater still puts on some of the best musical or other productions in the city. Its got history, a bar, and plenty of wonderful performers and stage decor to tantalize your senses.

We visited the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle on July 21 to see "Fun Home"...8:00 p.m. show. The seats we had were located near the back of the theatre in the mezzanine section left. It was suffocatingly hot; this made the play very uncomfortable. The temperature in the theatre made it very difficult to enjoy the play. It was very disappointing.

We just got home from the 5th Ave Theater (Rent) we left at Intermission we have been season ticket holders for many years, this is the first time we have walked out. Rent is the worst thing they have ever done. We need things that will raise social values but this takes us lower then we should ever go.
