We love Mike Strantz golf courses. This one might be his toughest (Tobacco Road is a close second). The layout is wonderful and each hole is unique - just a tremendous golf course. So why 3 stars? The conditions were weak, like 3 stars - traps were in horrible shape (possible from heavy rains that washed most of the sand out), the tee boxes were often bare or had rough like appearances and the greens had many unrepaired ball marks. The killer was, it took us (a twosome) 5:25 hours to play all 18 holes. There was one foursome in front of us that was painfully slow! They also did not let us play through. There was no ranger. When I complained after the round in the the pro shop, the attendant just shrugged his shoulders. They get 1 star for service and course management. Its a shame, we look forward to playing here, but based on course conditions and the lack of service, this might have been our last round at Royal New Kent.

This Course out of all 3 of the surrounding Traditional Golf Clubs in Virginia is by far my favorite. (One of the best in all of Virginia) The course is definitely challenging the first time you play it. But once you know what shots are needed on each hole, it gets more enjoyable each time you play. They hosted my wedding golf tournament this past memorial day weekend and Kim and her staff where fantastic to work with. They made it special for me and my guests. If you live in the surrounding area, sign up for their Rewards Club, and receive unbelievable deals all year long. Id give it more than 5 stars if I could. Brady Q.

Every shot requires your complete attention and good or youre dead! This course is simply different and fantastic, just fantastic and a must play more than once. Im from Florida and never get to experience golf like it should be (tourist courses suck). Royal New Kent is the tops! Stay out of the bunkers (kind of obvious). The greens were slick and have so many undulations and levels. Play golf here and have fun, a lot of fun, and never a dull shot.

I have been playing this course since it first opened yet hadnt played it for over a year until yesterday. We were quite disappointed in the condition of the course. The fairways and tee boxes are burned out and appeared to have gotten some weed issues as well. The greens were in fair condition but were like a sponge all around them due to overwatering. The bunkers as well had weeds growing in them. The worst this course has looked and played.

Royal New Kent is spectacular. Really an unforgettable experience. If youve never played the course, expect to hit the ball more often than normal. Once youve played it a few times it becomes more enjoyable, and a real accomplishment when you score low. Generally the course is in great condition, with fast greens, lush Bermuda fairways and punishing bunkers. The expansive layout makes this a 4.5 - 5-hour round.

The playing condition of the course is excellent for mid-February & like its two sisters courses, there are five tee placements on each hole giving various talent level golfers a more enjoyable round. In addition they frequently send attractive offers by email, some with a free lunch voucher for the much better than average snack bar!

Was a great course 10 years ago. Was in terrible shape. Fairways were burned out. Greens were. Very very slow and Bumpy. Traps were the worst. Was very disappointed
