Im from Philadelphia, but we had a family wedding in Charlottesville a few weekends ago. A few of the cousins and I wanted to get together to play a few holes the morning of the wedding. I made a phone call the day before to reserve a tee-time, it was straightforward and they were easy-going on the phone. Now, public courses in Philadelphia are pretty run-down but the core experience is enjoyable. Ive played some public courses in the suburbs and in Delaware also, but I have to say this might be the nicest public course Ive ever played. Right off the bat we were impressed by super-baller golf carts with built in cleaning station, 4 cup-holders, 2 cell phone holders, plus they were zippy and a pleasure to drive. The clubhouse is nice; being out of town I had bought a crappy little styrofoam cooler for some beverages; it turned out to be unnecessary, the beer was reasonably priced and they loaned us a legit cooler. So far the service was really just fantastic. The course itself is well maintained, lots of long holes and few par 3s, so you really get to work on your long game. Its not tough for an amateur to pull off some truly satisfying shots. We also encountered some neat wild-life. A few turtles, a couple rare birds, a baby fawn... definitely not what Im used to. By the time we got to the back 9, a service card had come to see if we needed to purchase any beers. More points for excellent service. I had to give this place a shining review; one thing I will say is for 8:40 AM tee time, saturday morning summer day that peaked at 80 degrees... this place was empty. Which I didnt really mind, but was shocked that such a quality course on a beautiful day would be slow. The review page is also empty so I needed to rectify that. Are public courses in the area really that great that people just overlook this gem of a course? I find that hard to believe. The other place that popped up in my google search was Birdwood, which looks a lot smaller and had higher rates. I cant comment further on the quality of that course, but it seems to be geared to the UVA students with a special discount for them. I would recommend this course to any of the locals or anyone just passing through like myself. A++

We really enjoyed the rolling hills and beautiful views that this golf course provided. We played it in middle March so unfortunately the fairways were very spotty. The greens were in very good condition. Would love to play this in later spring to compare. We did find the 1800s graveyard and deer an added bonus.

Used the VSGA card and was advised that they had gone to the summer rate. They may have gone to the Summer rate but the golf course was not in summer condition. The fairways had not been mowed for several days. This course is in as poor a conditions as I have ever seen it.

I suggest stopping at McDonalds for food. It would be better than what they serve here. Got the chicken sandwich and it was raw!!!! The course is good but service could use some major improvements.
