First off, as far as romantic atmosphere, only if you have 20/20 vision and eyes like a cat will you be able to read the menu in this place. Second, they claimed they were out of all their dinner rolls but wheat, which are the lamest ones they serve. Third, my fiance ordered the tiger prawns which were no more than 5 small shrimp on top of some instant mashed potatoes. Lastly, the staff apparently knew themselves that the meal was substandard because they charged a table of six automatic gratuity. I have eaten at this restaurant since they were "The Grapevine" at their old location and I can only say that they have certainly gone downhill, and apparently without a conscience. We ended up going to another restaurant afterwards because all in our party were left wanting for a more satisfying dinner experience.

AMAZING FOOD, FABULOUS DRINKS, TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!! I love this place so much, but do your business a favor & fire your hostesses, your servers & the bartenders that work in the lounge. This is a place where the staff doesnt greet you & is ANNOYED by your presence. Even when I called to speak to a manager (Makon) about my really disappointing experience, I was still treated as a nuisance.Ive recommended this place to countless friends & family despite the disrespectful staff. However, Im done, because despite the AMAZING food & CHIC atmosphere, its not worth being treated like a peasant by the hosts & servers. For reference, since no one will reply until a year later.... IF YOU HAD ONLY ONE MEAL TO EAT BEFORE YOU DIE!! I eat out all the time. I have eaten at all the high end steak places. If you have one place to eat a great steak this one is it hands down. I know it is shocking I am recommending steak as it is not something you would most likely expect. The bone in rib eye with the thin layered potatoes is unbelievable. I have had it twice now and was awesome both times. They beat the other places without a doubt and I have eaten at all the high end ones several times. They get there steaks from Red Raider meats which is also part of the reason they are so good!! Service was great one time and ok the second.

Reading the reviews that people have given Cafe Js is pretty entertaining. I recently moved here from NH and the one thing Ive noticed is that the food here sucks. People are highly overweight and are content being that way. I cant blame them though seeing how every five feet there is a Sonic or Whataburger. But then I go online and find Cafe Js. Its one of two places in Lubbock that have decent food, reasonably priced for what it is. Ten dollars a martini? Thats normal on the east coast. Id rather pay ten dollars for a martini that eat or drink the gruel Im getting accustomed to being served here. Maybe the Cotton Cafe is more to everyones liking.

Loved this place! Came with my husband and a friend of our and had a great experience. Friendly and helpful staff. Great place for cocktails and dinner. Its not am crowded place at all. We all enjoyed both our food and cocktails. After dinner, we stayed and enjoyed our cocktails in the lounge area, which was very nice and not as small as we assumed. Also enjoyed looking at all of the art displayed throughout the restaurant and lounge. Will definitely go back.

This was the worst experience I have EVER had in my whole life!!! The waitress and the manager were extremely RUDE!!! I will NEVER go to this restaurant again and I recommend others to do the same. Lubbock has too many other BETTER restaurants for anyone to have to deal with this kind of attitude, rudeness, and lack of service!! COMPLETELY hate this place!

My husband & I dined here February 12th and had their Valentines menu. For both of us it was only $90 and included several appetizers, soup, salad, entree and dessert! We were very impressed with the new decor and remodeling they had done since wed been there last. The food, service, and company were all amazing! Cafe J truly is a special place in Lubbock!

Very rude service. I went for an Anniversary party this last weekend, the waitress and manager for the party were so rude and made horrible comments towards the guests. The only waiter that was nice and actually helped was Zach. The food is ok, but not worth having to deal with the attitudes coming from the wait staff. Never again!

Amazing atmoshpere and service. Feel bad i dont remember our servers name but she was spectacular. Food was to die for had the curry rubbed flatiron steak. I have worked as a cook in a stealhouse for a little over two years. I have never had a flatiron steak as tender or as juicy as the ones I cook.

One might not expect the west texas oil town of Lubbock to be where youd go for fine dining, but Cafe J offers a wonderful fine dining experience and a really fair price and rivals many well know restaurants in places like New Orleans, San Francisco and New York City

Dont eat here. It took them forever to seat us.. the food sucked and the service was the pits the only thing worth ordering here are the martinis and even those are overpriced their salmon might as well say say sushi cause they served it raw.

Love this place! Easy to get in and out of! Today we had the tapas appetizer, Greek salad, and turkey sandwich. Our waiter was exceptionally nice. The food was promptly served and everything was delicious!!! Great lunch and dinner venue!!

Great food. Great wine. Great service. We are from the NYC area and have eaten here several times. It remains amongst our favorites. Anywhere. Really good food, fantastic wine, wonderful service. Looking so forward our next meal there,

Great place! The food is good but the atmosphere is great! It is across the street from Texas Tech Universitys campus, but not a lot of 18-19 year olds running around the restaurant!! Great bar inside the restaurant as well.

I cant speak for dinner but I highly recommend brunch. Speedy service, fantastic food and friendly staff for a reasonable price. We sat on the patio which I also recommend. The interior was a bit dim.

Great food. Great atmosphere. This is a special place in Lubbock. Beyond the fantastic food, they also have a great bar and appetizers making this an excellent happy hour spot.

Food was very average. Lobster mac n cheese was fishy smelling and tasting. Chocolate cake was more like an undercooked brownie. The wine was the best part of the meal.

Waitress and bartenders were not friendly at all! Food was not pleasant. This restaurant has significantly gone downhill since my first visit.

Always a pleasant atmosphere. Decent options for vegetarians. Bit pricey but great for a date or something upscale.
