This hotel ummmmmmmm.......why do I hate it??? Well let me tell you the story. First arriving into the depressing lobby greeted by unhelpful staff, we didnt get what we requested from the unhelpful rude front desk person. So after the whole story I went to my room, I entered it was ok everything felt ok. After 45 minutes to an hour I decided to go out while waiting for the elevator I found a giant spider that looked like it came from Night at the Museum or SpiderMan or some sort of comical proportion! While I got into the elevator this is why this incident made me hate this hotel. First let me tell you this hotel welcomes racist rude uneducated guests, who only like people like their own kind. We entered the elevator and another guy came in before the door was about to close this is when the action started we held the door as a man and his wife were about to come. With the man next to his wife saying "oh that looks like it is a bit packed, well catch the next one yall enjoy until it goes down if it reaches downstairs". This is when we knew this was an racist idiot who was connecting us him and his wife as Arab terrorists which we arent! And I wish he was the only racist guest in this hotel but most of the guests were giving us dirty looks. I just want that idiot to know he is the one that is looking dumb, and he doesnt know he was being racist towards an American. I think he shouldnt judge people from what they look like because they can be miles better than him! Now back to the hotel, they charge you for an outdoor parking that they dont even own and that was $10 per night. I went and came back at night with the parking being so dark I had to turn on the flashlight on my phone, I entered the hotel and so that there was an event, but I continued on to my room. Oh and I forgot they gave me a hotel room with one of the worst views I had looking on to the roof of the lower part of the hotel. The bathtub was also dirty, the room was a bit dirty also with a pillow having a stain on it. Now I tried to sleep but I couldnt due to the amount of noise coming from the event they were hosting which lasted a really long time in their so called Atrium which they are proud of and think is magnificent which isnt. So short story short dont come to this hotel unless you are from a certain type of ethnic group, which I believe is wrong as a hotel is open to all travelers and I am a paying customer so I dont deserve to get in contact with rude idiots in this hotel. And like I said this hotel is bad and I will say it in two languages English and the language some guests in this hotel hate. English: This hotel is not good. Language they hate: هدا الفندق مانوا كايس

Marriott may not be the only travel industry player now trying to boost revenue with incidental charges, but it is ironic that in a location where the city buses provide free Wi-Fi, this hotel makes no access available without a daily fee of around $13. Since Im a teacher on a budget and the school didnt anticipate and pay this, I had to leave the premises to check email. How homey? Also, there were two bottles of water at $4 each sitting on the table of my room. I chose instead to buy the exact same water from the lobby kiosk at $3 per bottle - still a rip-off but an improvement. Clearly it was a mistake to leave the empties in the trash; while the two full bottles were left in the room untouched, my credit card showed an $8 charge. On calling the hotel to ask that it be removed, I was told they cant deal with it locally. They referred me to the Marriott "business services" office, which is open only during the week and during hours when Im generally busy with students. Two messages without response and Im still hoping to recover my $8. It would be nice to visit Austin again, but there seem to be many nice hotels, and Ill be looking for one that either bundles Wi-Fi/internet access in the daily rate, or at least provides free service in the lobby. Thank goodness it didnt rain on this visit.

My company recently hosted a global meeting here, part of which I led. Even though I live in Austin, I stayed at Renaissance Austin for several nights and interacted with their events team quite a lot. What I love: - Spacious rooms with comfy beds and AC that gets really cold for hot Texas days/nights - Room service menu with really good food, delivered fast (and in to go bags, not the annoying trays) and with a simple $5 delivery fee -- none of that absurd 20% service fee + $10 delivery fee + 10% unicorn finding fee - Aveda bath products - Hotel bar (Knotty Deck) with great food/drinks and awesome views of Hill Country from well-appointed patio - Ample free parking - Shuttle that will take you anywhere within 5 miles for free - Fun, Austin decor What I dont love: - Huge open atrium concept creates quite a lot of noise, so caution to the very light sleeper - They spent a ton on a huge renovation a few years ago, but missed the mark by not replacing old bathtubs and other overly-warn elements - It takes FOREVER to walk to room from elevator (consider using a service elevator on other side of hotel to get to your room) Tips: - Use the Marriott app to make requests - Ask for a room that has proper windows to outside (as opposed to ones with windows to atrium)

The property has very good potential but for the rate you pay I expected alot more. The staff was very very friendly and helpful. However, we went without adequate tv service for 2 days supposedly because of clouds causing issues with the satellite, but on the 3rd day when it was cloudier then ever the service was fine. Housekeeping did an okay job on the surface but soap scum on the tub walls along with pubic hairs made it kind of icky. Not to mention I dropped something in the tub and happened to see under the soap dish attached to the wall and it was nothing but mildew under there, (gross!) Hallway carpet is frayed, the beds are short sheeted because they do not use fitted sheets or flat sheets long enough to tuck in. The pool steps were slick with slime. Again things from afar look good, but since I worked at a hotel for 10 years maybe I look below the surface. The pricing for food and drinks are way to expensive for what you get. 1(small) glass of mediocre wine and a watered down mixed drink was $19.00. I can buy a bottle of jack and a cheap bottle of wine that was just as good as what we received. The atmosphere was limited. We will not stay here again, almost $200 a night for such a disappointing stay.

I stayed at this hotel because my friend was getting married there, which was very convenient. If I was not there for an event, I would not stay at this hotel. Paying nearly $200 for a room (that is with the group discount) for any hotel that does not offer basics like FREE WI-FI is completely ridiculous. There was no ethernet in the rooms, nor was there even free internet in the lobby. We had just stayed at the Marriott South (the Renaissances step-sister) the previous two nights, and even there we had free ethernet in our rooms. I was also giving one of the bridesmaid toasts of the evening and had to pay $5.00 to print out one sheet of paper because the front desk said they "didnt have the capability" to print anything. Lastly, the rooms were decorated very differently to say the least. Some of our friends had iHome docking stations for alarm clocks (our room had an old, regular alarm clock), others had two plasma TVs (my room had one), and the bridal suite had an old, pre-plasma 30-inch TV. Not sure what that was about. Needless to say, I will not be going back, and I am glad I now have an excuse to completely avoid the entire Marriott chain of hotels.
