My husband and I camped at this campground over the past weekend as we were in town to visit family. Having never been here before we were excited to see what the campground had to offer. We have a friend who comes to Pirateland every year and spoke highly about the campground and its amenities. While this campground was family oriented and the staff we dealt with was extremely friendly, there are some things that could or need to be changed to make this campground a nicer and safer place to stay. We stayed inland and on the way in to find our site we noticed alot of golf carts that were driven by teenagers who werent really paying attention to what was happening around them. The roads to the campsites are narrow and when you are trying to get a trailer through the campground it makes it very difficult when you have children on bikes (without parental supervision) and golf carts with drivers not paying attention. Just getting to your site can at best be described as difficult. Once we got to our site the first night was very quiet and people respected the 11:00pm quiet time. The second night we were there we had a camper coming in at 11:15pm. We finally got to sleep at 1:00 am. They were extremely loud and just the fact that they were allowed in after the 11:00 pm quiet time puzzled me. Just as there is a time to check in (2:00pm) there needs to be a set time for late campers coming in and setting up. (maybe NO LATER than 9:30pm.) The other problem is garbage. You were to set your trash outside in front of your campsite. I think there needs to be a better system for this. This causes bugs, flies and really the last thing I think anyone wants to do is walk outside and see trash at all the sites all the time. I think there is just a better way to handle that issue. (Maybe a set drop off point to bring your trash, then all you have to do is empty the dumpsters.) Last but not least the bathrooms. I know they are older and that is fine but they need to be bleached down everyday. That was not being done. The hand soap was empty on Friday and it didnt get refilled until Saturday night. There was no toliet paper in some of the stalls. We were there Thursday-Sunday and I saw the cleaning lady on Saturday night. My husband said that the mens bathroom smelled like stale urine the whole stay. My honest review would be on a scale of 1-5, we would give Pirateland a 3.

Before you do something stupid like book your vacation at Pirate land, do some research. We stayed at pirate land before and enjoyed it, so we booked a week there again in 2016. That was a Big mistake. This time the employees were constantly harassing us and making rules up that didnt exist. They followed us around the whole time we were there. We have never been on a vacation where the resort staff followed and harassed us EVER! I couldnt believe I was paying to be there and found out this was normal for the resort through google reviews. I decided to share my experience. I found the staff miserable, greasy and creepy. Whether you like it there or not. Nobody can honestly deny the place is run down, dated and the showers are hurting. There is a sewer pipe that dumps right onto the beach in the resort (google it), and the final straw for us was the cockroaches at the pool. It was the worst vacation experience we ever had! My home is a 100x nicer, so what I was doing there????? I was so happy to leave Pirate Land. They though we were going home, but we moved to Lakewood for a week. What a difference! it was totally awesome at Lakewood!! Thank god for Lakewood!! I would have to say I could have looked past the park issues at Pirate Land if it wasnt for the staff. They killed it for us and that negative feeling made us focus on the down side of the park. This trip cost us over $4000 and 40 hrs driving. They ruined the experience for us and we would never ever in our lifetime, ever go back. In fact I think I am going back to the Caribbean. Sorry South Carolina. I love you, but what a waste of time and money in comparison to an all inclusive island holiday. 0 stars from me! you ruined my vacation and billed me for it Pirate Land. Shame on you! Now were at home relaxing and its as quiet as a church mouse! We are looking forward to our next adventure somewhere happy. If you decide to go to myrtle Beach. 100% Go to Lakewood.

Staff at the campground were very friendly and helpful. This place is absolutely huge and has a ton of things for the kids to do, either at the pools, playground or arcade areas, among more. You do need to look at where your campsite is placed. If you get placed near a restroom or near the beach front road, you are going to hear a lot of noise from camper and golf carts until the curfew at 11 pm. That was a bit late for us given our 3-year old trying to sleep. Also, we had to deal with people setting off fireworks - which are not allowed in the park - until nearly 12:30 am. Camp staff could respond better to those infractions - although if it had not been very near us, it may have just been more background noise. Lastly, our camp bathroom could use some updating and a lot of the toilets seemed to have issues during the days there. To be fair though, people are not careful or clean often - so I tend to think a lot of the issues could have been avoided if people would treat these places as they do their own home. The truth is though - this is still one of the best sites we have ever been to, and we will definitely be going back. The covered picnic table sitting area is great. Once you open your canopy, it gives you a wide swath of covered areas. The beach was close, easy to get to and also nice to hang out on. The kiddie pool and lazy river were great, and the Edys ice cream was fresh and tasty. Just dont forget to bring your bikes. Although you can walk every where, it is a large park and the bikes were very convenient. If youve never been here, I strongly suggest you give it a try. I also really liked that it had a strong mixture of age groups and many middle to younger campers. Its always nice to see people out, especially with families, where they are closer to our age - early to mid 40s. Pirateland is a winner and got two thumbs up by both our kids in the camper! Give it a try, but book EARLY if it is in season.

When I called to make reservations, I let them know how big our rv was...which is a 40 ft toyhauler. Eric took our reservation, he told me that our site 1235 was 52 x 20 which is plenty big for our rv. What he failed to tell us was there was a big tree right in the center of that site. Id love to be able to put a picture on here because we are sitting on top of our neighbors rv. When we open our door we are looking right in their window.....Im sure they love that. Its very tight in here. We came very (too) close to hitting the trees that go across the road. We had to back up once to realign on a turn. For the first time in all of our camping experience, we didnt have enough hose to hook up the sewer so we had to go and spend $30 on additional hose to be able to connect. The other sites here seem to be pretty spacious, but all have smaller rvs in them. It seemed like every camper here was outside standing and watching us park ours. If you have a large rv, stay away from this place. We called and asked for a refund so we could leave 2 weeks early, but were told "no". The sites have sand and mud when it rains and since our outside quarters is so small, we cant put our mat down so we are constantly dragging in mud. We cant even set out our chairs unless we put them out near the road. Oh, and if you have a motorcycle, it has to be parked up front with the gate guard. They arent allowed in the park at all. Whats good about this place? Ocean, cable and wifi seems to work most of the time.
