A bite of BK from hometown heroes. Everything you want a venue to be and then some: multiple floors for events of a different nature on the regular, unpretentious and approachable staff, a small taste of NYC without leaving the burgh (therefore, arguably better), and a pizza joint to soak up your self-indulgence. The people running Spirit are also active in helping the local community and not just being another go-to for tomfoolery. Pick an evening to go because there are plenty of options, and if the night life isnt your thing Spirit harbors a small-town bar feel during daylight hours to enjoy.

I love the upstairs venue at Spirit One of the few venues with a real sound system that completely rocks in Pittsburgh. Ive seen a few shows there now and all have been great from singer-songwriters to Hip Hop two Rock shows upstairs and downstairs. Pittsburgh has been so overdue for more new great venues but actually care enough to put in real sound and put on a show. I hear from artists that the club treats people far better than a lot of other places in town and thats it also very positive congrats spirit.

I go here all the time. They have by far the best Pizza in the city, along with the best grilled cheese Ive ever had. Im pretty sure they make everything from scratch and go as far as growing their own herbs and spices. The bar tenders are always very kind and attentive.. one of the best spots in the city to find local music from artists of all genres. Like I said, Im always here with my friends and if youre looking for a really down to earth cultural experience this is the place to go.

I had a great time here! The bar downstairs was great. The staff, bouncers, and bar tenders were very friendly, and there is a great selection of beer that is reasonably priced. The venue upstairs is AWESOME. The sound and acoustics are great, and there was plenty of room even though the show was completely sold out. This was a great place to have Pittsburgh Skullfest. Thanks to the owners and organizers for hosting such a great show! DOOM was awesome and I had a blast! Cheers!

Went to one of their dance parties. It was highly understaffed for the amount of people that were there. There were a lot of sloppy people there spilling drinks everywhere. This made the floor very slippery, and no one cleaned it up. There was a 45 minute wait for the upstairs bar, and when this became apparent they decided to charge a separate cover to go to the downstairs bar. The pizza is actually pretty good. The mixed drinks were weak, but the beer is cheap.

Yea, this location needs a review. I revamped the bar with an awesome crew who work there now. This place has it going on! Im not biased either. I just love the space, the people involved, the damn good pizza, and the incredible shows that come in and out. The ambiance keeps you positive and there are always people to meet with stories to share. Beer selection is straight PA local and the liquor selection is wide. Check it out!

(Spirit Hall, upstairs) Anything beyond a singer-songwriter blows out this venues poor acoustics badly. The low ceiling, hard surface and under provisioned PA just cant cut it. Certainly in its time well meaning people spoke quietly and earnestly one at a time at the stage while polite citizens listened intently. Perhaps thats what it is still best suited. Fun idea, needs a significant acoustic investment to be a realistic venue.

I went to Spirit to see Spafford and the Mike Dillon Band on a Friday night. The pizza they serve in the back kitchen is amazing! Really cool/unique idea. They also offered a coat check which is unique to venues/bars like this in Pittsburgh which was much appreciated on a really cold night. Cant wait to go back for more live music and pizza!

Really interesting atmosphere. Its an old private club that has been turned into a hipster hideaway. There are electronic sound machine stations to play around on and a wide open environment. The Pizza was really great that we ordered and the salad was decent too. Id recommend! They had a pretty decent selection of craft beer as well.

I heard the Sunday brunch was amazing... and after tasting it, I agree. I love the funky vibe of this place, and the pizza is fantastic. I also appreciate the selection of art and artists (including work for sale) that is integrated into the decor. Overall a great use of this old building, and a great place to hang out.

Dark and dirty, looks like a place you go to get murdered. Impossible to see from the street and nothing better once you enter. Food and drink was horrible. One positive, they hosted a volunteer fair recently and I appreciate that! Apparently, they also host some good shows, but I will likely never go back.

Love the atmosphere at Spirit. The bartenders are very friendly, the pizza is good, and theres always some good live music going on. My favorite day to visit Spirit is Sunday for either the brunch in the morning or Bingo Bango in the evening. Definitely recommend going here for drinks or to grab a bite.

My friend and I cam to see S U R V I V E this past November 2016, and it was super cool. The venue, though small at the entrance, provided enough room once you went upstairs! My friend Romina loved it, and I hope I can take her here again one day :)

Really great space, really great vibe. They have a good sized bar on the bottom floor with some really good pizza as well, and then they have a huge second floor room where they hold bigger shows and host art projects, sometimes at the same time!

This review is for the downstairs bar. It ok at best. The drinks are well prices. Staff is decent. Nothing that really makes it great though. The music and crowd seem to be a little on the hipster side. I havent made it to the upstairs club yet.

This place inherits the legacy of other great, unpretentious Pittsburgh music venue bars of the 90s, but does it with better food, better beer, and often with better sound. Always a good time. .

Split level bars and event hall with interesting and eclectic goings on. Only down side is if something really loud is going on, it bleeds into the other floor and can be distracting.

Delicious pizza, good music, happy hour from 5-8, and new beers to try on a regular basis, whats not to like? Their brunch is decent as well but it gets quite crowded.

This place has interesting activities that are not all the same old thing. We went there for Dan Savages hump festival. We have also been there for other shows.

Good beer selection if you only drink craft beers (which I really dont). Drinks are pricey. Great place to see live music. The pizza shop is really quite good.

Good stage area, but poor air circulation especially when the venue is crowded . Overall not bad. Location makes it easy to get to and from the North hills.

Attended the fermentation festival and had a blast. My mom and sister spent most of the time we were there at the bar...they had a really good time also.
