What a crappy place. This hotel/pub/trash bin is a sore to the eyes. My wife and I and our 10 month old son drove through to get our stamps and check this place out! We planned a vacation with the specific plan to stop by this place along the way. Considering we would never come this way without the stamps (props to Mcmenamins marketing) The first thing that rubbed us the wrong way was the front desk staff. Any question we asked received a quick snippy response. After being snapped at we went through and toured the building, everything is OLLLLLDDD and creaky. The hallways of the hotel smell like musty old people (possibly death) and the bathrooms were surprisingly dirty for a hotel.... What really ticked me off the most is that one of the 5 stamps needed for the book requires a stamp from a bar that is only open Fri/Sat and after 5pm. Guess who got there on Friday at 4:15pm.....? We did!! Guess who wouldnt give us the stamp 45 min early? The couple with the crying baby who drove 2 hours specifically to visit. Also the couple who on their return trip would not be able to get a stamp because this bar isnt open on Mondays.... I spoke with the manager Ashleigh and she gave me the scripted "if we do it for you, we have to do it for everyone" speech. Not kind in the least bit. So we kindly left (without our stamp) and will never return to any McMenamins. This passport was a waste and for a 45 minute courtesy, McMenamins and the manager just lost our current and future business. Ill be sure to share this horrible experience and our views to everyone we know. Thanks Ashleigh and thanks McMenamins =)!!

If youre looking for a relaxing stay in the middle of Oregons wine country, Hotel Oregon is not the place for you. I have to judge this hotel based on what I thought it would be. I thought it would be a charming hotel -- probably minimalistic -- that would welcome us into its historic overtones. The shared bathroom and queen bed were part of the package, and I was quite intrigued by the artwork throughout the building and the naming of each room. We stayed in room 304, named Ti Soyota (?), after the cook who stayed there years earlier. Cool. However, we chose a bad night. Friday night. Next to our room was a tiny hallway with a bench. Our room was at the top of the stairs. The Hotel Oregon happens to have a bar on the roof. From roughly 10:30 - 12:30, the entire floor was like a frat party of 35 - 55 year-olds. The walls were thin, which we expected, but the volume level was out of control. The hotel manager rightfully decided to introduce some kind of security enforcement. By 12:30 or so, the noise was basically quieting down. The bar closed at 1 am -- at least the downstairs one did (and I assume the rooftop bar did as well). Management was kind, sympathetic and understanding. We were given $10 off of our stay, bringing the one-night total to $75. In summary, the hotel is only historically charming. Relaxation was not on the menu.

We went her for dinner because it was the only non fast food place open on a Sunday night after 8pm. Honestly, I think that fast food may have been the better option. The service was incredibly slow, 45+ min to get food; the waiter got our order wrong a large pizza when a personal size was asked for, and he charged us for his mistake(+$28), and the food was so-so, edible at best. It wasnt a busy night, maybe 3 other parties in the place, so its not like they were overwhelmed with tons of orders. The food: well, even bad pizza is still pizza- so there is that, the uneven distribution and balance of ingredients made it not the best though; the soup resembled canned with maybe some herbs added; Brussels sprouts app was tiny and soggy, not caramelized, but bacon does make things better. They did have sweet potato fries, that were pretty good, although the extra charge for subbing out the 7 fries that came with the kids meal seemed a bit unnecessary. Overall it wasnt the worst meal, but I wouldnt choose to go back. A note about the atmosphere - one might call it eclectic, we decided that its really in the need of a consistent theme. It had about 7 different things going on, from hanging stained glass windows to new fun party lights... Not a good combo, not a good look.

Were locals. My husband and I went to the rooftop this afternoon for a beer and nosh, but only 3 of the tables had umbrellas! My husband has had skin cancer, so staying there was out of the question. It was very hot and sunny. When we asked the manager about the lack of umbrellas, she said that every Spring, they buy an umbrella for each of the tables. The wind destroys them throughout the summer. Considering we have another two months of beautiful weather here before the rains come (or even more), wouldnt it make sense for them have replacements?? I mean, come on - how much do a few umbrellas cost? She just shrugged. Apparently, they have no real interest in accommodating their guests - guess there are always tourists lined up who will happily sweat their way through some Rubies. Not a great attitude for a restaurant to have, in my humble opinion. Their attitude toward serving people in a timely fashion is pretty lousy, too, but the view is so spectacular, that we usually overlook this. Too bad. We went home and made our own hummus platter and sat on our shady deck with a couple of cold beers. Saved us a bundle! Wont bother next time!

I had been here a few times before to visit the rooftop bar, which is great. This time we decided to stay over on a motor trip from Portland. It was a blazing hot day, and the rooftop bar was out of the question. The cellar bar was closed! So we had a birthday dinner for 4 in the main pub and it was fine. The room itself was quite small and had a weird painted visage of some local journalist on the wall staring at us. History is nifty, but this face was creepy. Folks in the hallway at night were loud and the walls are thin. (Ear plugs were on the nightstand for a reason!) At least there was an in-room airconditioner! Sometimes the lobby desk is unstaffed, which is weird. The european-style bath (down the hall) is OK but the ancient shower wand just disintegrated as I tried to use it....again, history can be nice but if it doesnt work..... Kind of expensive, but if you are into the historical/clunky aesthetic of McMenamins it could be your thing. The early morning (7AM) truck loading glass right outside the window was a drag....

Ive eaten here twice now and I have to say, I have rarely had such awful service. When you get your order, it is decent - that is, IF you get your order. I went with 4 and they not only forgot to place my order, they served as after lots of tables around here got seated, served, paid and left. Finally, after much effort to get any wait-staff attention, they informed us that there had been a shift change and no one put in our order. After my friends finally got their food and I didnt, they told me they had run out of what I ordered. All this took nearly two hours. Finally we all ate and then I had to actually get up and track down people to help me find my waiter. Only after a search for him did I learn they had comped our meal - because they knew everything had been horrible. Ive been here on other occasions just for a beer on the rooftop on sunny days, and thats been just fine - but I will never eat a sit down meal here again. Serioiusly, there is no excuse for service that awful.
