This place is an NYC treasure. Ive visited it often, since it is close enough for me to do that. It has also changed and expanded to make me a very happy camper in the 15 years of going. Often Ill bring all out-of town guests here as well, because while off the beaten path it is a quintessential New York experience. The staff are always helpful & friendly, their email list is unobtrusive and informative, and keeps you up to date on all the things that are easy to miss in the city that never sleeps. When it first opened (because of no heating) it was closed during the winter and now it has been modified to be open year-round. Making the view in the garden breath-taking no matter the season. During the short time it was closed, my adoration followed them to their temporary space in LIC as well. Each time, and every time it is a revelation as the curation and one of my most favorite moments ever in a museum was seeing the Martha Graham exhibit when it reopened. Simply breathtaking to see the props used in her most famous dances up close and archival footage to really land like one of Marthas own stomps on stage hitting your chest. Brought me to tears.

I didnt know much about Noguchi before visiting the museum but immediately I was struck by the different textures of the stone pieces. I wanted to reach out and touch them, and occasionally I did. This was the way Noguchi originally intended his stonework to be experienced, according to the helpful person at the front desk. I was informed that this was not allowed but luckily we had this conversation after I had already walked around. The environment within the walls of the complex is very serene, and the bright winters day showed how well the architecture uses darkness and light, indoor and outdoor space, and height. It is a shame only about the moderately high entrance price and no-touch rule!

This museums is one of the most beautiful in the city, and although the collection does not often change - its dreamlike and meditative atmosphere would make me visit again regardless. Its outdoor areas, modern interpretations of a traditional Japanese garden, were fun to explore despite a heavy rain. I enjoyed it so much that I might argue the museum is meant to visited in the rainy seasons (fall and spring). I recommend sitting through the (lengthy) documentary at the back of the museum, near the exit. Noguchi was an artist whose life is as much a part of his legacy as his work. His responses to adversity are inspirational, and his work takes on a new dimension after youve seen it.

If youre jonesing for a zen fix, this is the place. And its a great destination for New Yorkers looking for something new and different to do. Yes, its a bit harder to get to, but take that as part of the fun. Make the visit an adventure and work in some other sites in the area like Astor Bake Shop for lunch and the Socrates Sculpture Park. Theres lots of incredible graffiti art around the area as well. Its a well maintained museum for sure and Noguchis art is really awe-inspiring. Weve all seen countless marble statues of people, so it cant hurt to just see a big round, rock thing sometimes. Theres also a tranquil rock garden to sit in and contemplate where the universe came from.

I absolutely love this museum; I would give it 6 stars if it were an option! Noguchis sculpture work is famous the world over, and some of his best pieces are right here at the space he purchased and designed himself. There are not many opportunities to experience an artists work in exactly the setting that he/she wanted you to experience it in. Noguchis experiences as a half-Japanese American during the time of Japanese internment are also incredibly prescient for todays politics. I can not recommend this museum enough; skip the crowds at the famous museums, and make the trek to this hidden gem!

Amazing how this man got involved with the hardest materials in the world, granite (so many types), basalt, marbles (so many and so different) even terracotta, wood, bronze and steel and still managed to forma the most desirable shapes with most seductive curves and textures but, you are not allowed to touch them or somebody will jump and scold you. Why did the artist do all those special textures and surfaces if not to feel with your tactile sense the beauty of the object? Still an amazingly beautiful and inspiring exhibition of an outstanding artist.

This is a great place to visit if you are interested in sculpture. Noguchi experimented with Japanese art forms in his work, and some of the exhibits had a serene and calming effect. Theres also a biographical video about Noguchi that reveals his influences and his background. The museum is located in Long island City where theres plenty more to see in addition to the museum, so you could make a day out of it. Also, the Museum is free and open to the public on Friday afternoons.

Immaculate museum with delusive museum shop! While the museum is exactly as one may expect from the place dedicated to an artist as Noguchi, museum shop is just the opposite. The Akari lamps are mostly unavailable and those available are literally a black box, many of them are not included in the paper catalogue. The final feeling is that somebody there is trying to prevent the visitor to live the place with a souvenir. I wormly suggest to improve this in future.

Perhaps its because I visited when some of the collection was being used at the BK Botanical Garden so the museum seemed to be on the "smaller" side in terms of what there was to see. Coupled with the inconvenient location, I found it a bit disappointing but I did appreciate the guided tour that allowed visitors to learn more about Noguchi and some of his other famous works around the world and what to look out for locally in NYC such as the Red Cube.

When I think of how long this museum has been a part of Queens, I cant help but admire the forsight of the Noguchi estate. When the Art Industry of Soho and Madison Ave were banking on Brooklyn, Noguchi went to Queens, as did Marlborough Gallery for storage. Of course, Im a fan of Noguchis table, and you can see in his sculptures how such a design could evolve from his process. Simple, balanced aesthetics are beautiful.

Spacious museum, good for really taking in the scultpures from all angles. I like the more "raw" area with stone flooring rather than the traditional, sometimes stuffier, creaky wood floored section. It might depend on timing, but the outdoor area feels like a good quiet place to relax.

Beautiful museum with some very interesting static pieces. The layout of the museum is a little labyrinthine despite their best efforts to lay out a linear plan for visits. Staff are young artist types and generally are passionate about the exhibits. Beautiful courtyard.

The work of Noguchi speaks to me of Universality, Spirituality, mans relationship with stone, rock, soil and water. I like the garden which takes me to another place in which I often find myself in Meditation and reflection. Thank you Isamu Noguchi
