I visited this museum twice in one month, on both occasions I had incidents with the security guards and the staffs. They are generally, I dare say generally because four different individuals were acting in the exact same manner in four separate incidents during the two visits. They are especially extremely rude if you look normal, that is, not wearing expensive suede jacket or silk dress - they will treat you like a vermin. They will chase you and watch you, and they will give you preemptive warnings regarding photography or touching the exhibitions or using the cell phone, none of which I or my friends did at all. I and all of my friends are artists with various higher degrees in the field, so please do not think that we were behaving inappropriately in any way. Also if you are a foreigner or tourist, dont visit this museum. Some of my visiting friends, whose English wasnt as fluent, werent even given a simple hi or smile, and the friendly hi of one of my friends was completely ignored. Of course if you speak "normal" English you will be allowed the honor of "hi" from the noble ticketing staff members. I and my good friends were offended, and I was especially embarrassed since I was the one who invited them to this rotten place. DO NOT RECOMMEND this place at all. Most of their exhibits are available online. Google will be a more pleasant and beneficial experience.

While bankers may get a bad rap, there is no denying how lucrative a field it is, a fact that was no truer at the turn of the 20th century. During the era of Andrew Carnage and Cornelius Vanderbilt, there was one banker who funded most of this expansion - JP Morgan, whose ornate residence has been turned into a monument to the gilded age financier and his extensive art collection. Broken up into smaller galleries throughout Morgans house, the museum supplements classical and early reinasiance pieces from his personal collection with pieces on loan from museum across the globe - often completing collections that Morgan had owned the majority of. However, the real "wow" moment arrives when your step into JP Morgans personal study and library, where his collection of rare books and manuscripts are prominently displayed. Books normally on display include an original copy of the Gutenberg bible, correspondence from Frederick Douglass to Lincoln, and during the winter months an first manuscript of Dickenss "A Christmas Carol" containing in line revisions by the author himself Since few people come even close to amassing Morgan levels of wealth, the museum has a free night on Fridays, complete with smooth jazz music.

When I saw a sign in the subway for the The Morgans The Little Prince exhibit, I knew we had to check it out. The exhibit, displaying the authors manuscripts, was well done. It was great learning more about his time in New York and the process behind writing the book. The exhibit was just the right size; it wasnt so big that it became overwhelming. As for the rest of the museum, it was refreshing to go to a museum that wasnt gigantic and exhausting. Our main focus was on The Little Prince but we still went through the other rooms. There was a nice mixture of books, paintings, and objects. I was surprised to see that the museum displayed objects it admitted may not be originals. I look forward to returning the next time there is a unique exhibit.

Dont miss it! Super beautiful indeed. By the time I stepped into the library and the museum, I know it worth my 3 hours time to look closer at the collections, the interior designs and the stories. Piernot Morgan surely had a great taste of rarities and beautiful objects. Make sure you come here while visiting NYC. The fee is USD 20 but it really is worth a visit. Spend at least 1.5 hours here and you can go straight to library then the museum. Personal and no-flash photography is allowed, except for certain objects and artworks that have been clearly indicated. They have the cafe as well, and the Morgan Dining Room. The food is nice, I had my lunch here and its super! Dont miss the gift shop as well :)

Beautiful, airy museum in a great location. Staff were friendly. Its quite a small museum, and the library and study are only open at certain times on certain days (4-6 pm on Sundays, for example) and those are the highlights. You can visit just those for free, or pay (13$ seniors and students, 20$ adults) for the full experience. Theres currently a great exhibition on Thoreau, but aside from the study, library, and that one exhibit, the rest was a bit boring to me--I think its geared more toward elderly people, because that was the majority of the population at the museum. The library itself is utterly magnificent. Loved it. In hindsight would visit just the library and study on a free day.

This is a wonderful smaller museum. Architecturally, it is very beautiful, and there is a glass elevator that brings you to each of the different floors (there are 3). On the first floor they have JP Morgans library which contains his collection of rare and old books. They have a lot of unique exhibits. For instance I went to one on Beatrix Potter, that consisted entirely of letters and drawings that she had sent to various people she corresponded with. Right now, there is an Edgar Allen Poe Exhibit which includes live readings of his work. There is a Cafe, that Ive heard has good food, but I have never tried it. Fridays from 7pm to 9 pm, the admission is Free.
