I am surprised to see the positive reviews of the park below. These are clearly superficial reviews of people who have NO idea what actually happens in this park. I live right across the street - in fact my apartment has a clear view of the park - and of course I have been inside it many times. First, lets be real - this park is filled with homeless people, some of them dirty and many of them drunk and/or on drugs. They mostly hang out on the northern side of the park, where the two childrens playgrounds are. I cant tell you how disturbing it is to be pushing your child on a swing in full view of the drunken/drugged out homeless crew, many of which are loud and foul-mouthed. However, that is by far the LEAST disturbing thing about this park. I have seen from my window in the past few months, dozens of sexual encounters (mostly between men)- some of those encounters being full blown sex in BROAD DAYLIGHT on the weekends. I work during the week but can only imagine that it goes on then as well. These encounters take place at the top of the park, in the bushes, and oftentimes on rocks in a clearing, hence easily viewable from anyone in the building across. In addition to these disgusting sexual acts, I have seen frequent drug encounters in those same spots, the last of which was a man shooting up heroin in his arm. I have called the police on multiple occasions and they say they are fully aware of what goes in in this park but are too short-staffed to do anything about it. It is a disgrace to the community that the park authorities and the police allow this blatantly illegal activity to go on. I no longer step foot in Marcus Garvey Park.

The highest natural point in Manhattan. This used to be home to a fire spotting station (a tower) which looked downtown over Manhattan to ring in fires. Unfortunately as that method of emergency service got outdated Mount Morris (the hill in MG Park) was been taken over by drugs, prostitution and gangs. Today it has been cleaned up substantially. You can see the little league playing, street basketball, the old timers playing chess and concert in the amphitheater, but degenerates still roam free, their stench, discarded alcohol containers and manic voices heard day and night. Much of the problem is the fact that this park is split by two police precincts, neither willing to overlap their border for the sake of keeping this beautiful park clean. Visit in the day, bypass in the night.

Marcus Garvey Park is surprising packed with things to do for the locals of Harlem, whether its the rec community center with a working gym, computer center to an Olympic sized swimming pool, to the massive rock form dead square in the center of it. This park has quite a bit of potential to be something really good. The only downside is that this park is terribly understaffed, maintained, and tends to have some elements of shady characters around. Outside of that most people tend to be very friendly from the basketball courts to the open air theater, baseball field there is a strong sense of community there among the locals.

I love this park. In the past few years the parks department has been adding art structures to the park which makes it very appealing. The park has a indoor swimming pool, small playground for kids, swings and basket ball area. Theres plenty of seating and grass area for outdoor activities and BBQ area and tables for the summer months. The restrooms are located inside recreation center and ID had to be shown for access. There is a homeless mens shelter near by. Therefore, men sit around the park most of the day. If that makes one uncomfortable this park may not be for you. Other wise its a clean and beautiful park. For a bit of old NY history, visit this place. Atop the central peak of the park, up a old, but formidable staircase is the last remaining fire tower in NYC. Once these Towers dotted the Manhattan landscape, providing an alarm system. Called the Harlem Fire Watchtower, it was dismantled in 2015 and refurbished. It had a 10000 pound bell that would ring when fires were spotted. Built around 1855, it was declared a landmark in 1967. The 74 foot structure still has its bell and sits on a space called The Acropolis.

Estuve en el festival de jazz Charlie Parker, 3 días con algunos de los mejores músicos de jazz del mundo, leyendas y nuevas figuras. Un lugar muy lindo dentro de Harlem para visitar y palpitar la vida del barrio.

Such a hidden gem - waiting for some love! The historic fire tower has been removed... I pray it will be restored and returned... and the park perimeter is now being spruced up with plantings. The upper level terrace and elevated walks are neglected and in disrepair. Would love to see an outdoor cafe up there and vibrancy once again. The amphitheatre it nice, if totally underutilized, and the swimming pool is fetching.

Used to visit my Family on 118th st. Btwn Park and Madison. I came here from the Bronx as a child when I believe it was called Mt. Morris Park. It was exciting then and still is now. Park is clean and the workers seem to be doing their part. I love coming to the events in the amphitheater...Gospel, Jazz, live Theater performances etc. A nice part of Harlems Rich History.

Ein schöner verträumter Park in Harlem und im Süden des Parks hat die 5th Avenue eine für mich unbekannte Seite gezeigt. Herzlich waren die ganzen Eichhörnchen im Park.

A bit of a huge park that spans from 120th to 124th Streets, between Madison and almost Lenox Avenue. Theres tons you can do here from the various playgrounds and swimming in the pool, to biking around the park or jogging around it as well. The view from the top of the Park is fantastic but be careful going into certain parts of the park at night.

I love this place. It could use a little bit of maintenance here and there, but its got everything you need in a tight space. Baseball field, outdoor theater, kids jungle gym, swimming pool (open only in the summer), basketball courts, and running trail. I mean this place is like the central park of Harlem, but it has seen its better years.
