This place is breathtaking. So large you feel as if you are truly in the wilderness. No car or city sounds distract from the quiet splendor of the surroudings. Views are stunning and range from meadowlands to hills to wildflowers to shady dells and rocky glens. As a Saint Louis native, I cant believe I hadnt visited here before. A must-see for any Saint Louisan who enjoys the great outdoors.

Lots of hiking trails suitable for children, families, and lovers. Children, if they can walk the distance, enjoy going to the Meramec River sandbar to throw stones. Weve seen kingfishers flying over the River. Water available in only two spots when hiking - the Maritz trail house and the "bus stop" (seasonal). Bring a filled bottle for each person to ensure that everyone stays hydrated.

Gorgeous park at all times of the year. I especially like the trails in the Fall, when the crisp air keeps most of the people inside and you can view lots of wildlife. There have been several instances where I have had the trails all to myself. Dont miss out on this beautiful place, less than an hour outside of Saint Louis.

Lovely place to hike or bike anytime! You get to see natures beauty everywhere you walk....enjoy a peaceful spot to picnic,read or just relax. Sorry to see some trees had to be taken down ....it added to the cozy, privacy of Shaw. Now you have noise of traffic more...but its still a nice place to visit.

My school went on a field trip there and it was very beautiful and fun.It was nice and chilly it got me into the fall spirit, but the leaves werent red and yellow but it was still beautiful. It felt like my trip to Utah a few summers ago.

Great place for a hike on several trails. Lots of local wild flowers and trees to admire. Always see snakes, birds, turtles, frogs, and skinks along the trail. Close to Meramec River, which is nice to walk to a check out.

Right off the interstate, lots of hiking trails through prairie, woodland, bluffs. Some are somewhat difficult most are very easy. Lots of cool natural areas. A few restored historic homes turned into visitor centers.

For some bizarre reason they close most of the roads inside the park, including the road to the wetland trail, on the weekends. I wish I had known this and then I would have visited during the week. :(

Great place for kids to get out and play in nature. Different play stations with different plants, music area, sand pit, building blocks and a cargo net/spider web for climbing.

Excellent collection of well maintained hiking trails through a variety of habitats. It would be an excellent place for birders. The main downside is no dogs allowed.

Shaw Nature Reserve is THE best place to see native plants beautifully displayed. They hold an annual plant sale--May 8, 2010. Terrific spot for bird watching too!

This is an amazing place to see nature. It is nice for the causal strolls and for a good date. This place also has a nice playground area for kids.
