The worst ! First of all this place needs an overall renovation. Our lanes kept malfunctioning and our timer seemed to be broken and had to be reset. My biggest issue with this place is that the employees and even the managers were incompetent. I went to the bar to get a drink and the bartender had the nerve to tell me that my ID was fake and that he would not serve show me. I am from Indiana and when I tried to explain this to him he simply cut me off and told me that he had seen plenty of fake IDs before. Apparently Michigan IDs differ from Indiana state IDs the sticker on our licenses do not go to the edge of the card and because mine did not he stated that it was fake . When I asked him who I needed too speak to he simply wave me off to the security guard very rudely I might add .... Now after I get to this security guard Im thinking okay youre someone whos going to know the difference between a fake and a real ID. Boy was I wrong this idiot had the nerve to say that he lived in Indiana for some time and the ID didnt look real. I am 22 years old and have absolutely no reason to lie about my age. Besides I was very pissed off and Im not going to lie I caused a scene. Usually I dont act in that manner but the fact that my integrity was questioned and I was humiliated in front of other people I didnt take it very well why would anyone in their right mind cause a commotion about a fakeID ?! Basically it to 15 minutes of me arguing with these idiots to even resolve an unnecessary issue. NEVER GOING BACK.

Me and 3 friends went to garden bowl on a thursday, when we got there they told us it would be a hour wait and there was some birthday party going on and it was crowded, but we wanted to bowl so we waited. We sat down and waited a hour, the party group left and we asked if there was now a lane open and the told us to wait another hour and a half?!?!? There were four lanes open at this point and we had already waited a hour. This was very aggravating, if they had told us it would be 2 and a half hours from the start we would have left, but even worse we could see open lanes. Since we had already waited a hour we decided to stay a while longer hoping something would open up. After waiting another hour and after seeing multiple people leave, we went back up to ask if we could rent a lane and they told us to wait another hour. At this point most of the bowling lanes were not being used and still they would not let us play, I dont understand these business practices. It would have been great to have a bowling alley walking distance from wayne state but this place is a waste of your time.

This is my favorite place to bowl in the city. Although the lanes arent my favorite to bowl on, the alley is convenient. They stay open until 2am, are in a great location, they have a nice bar, and good pizza! They also host karaoke nights which are usually very entertaining. The service has mostly been great, the staff is really laid back. The guy with the long hair is the best. He makes sure everyone has a great experience. The parking lot is huge but note that there is a $5 fee to park in their lot. It is enclosed and guarded by security and is a shared lot with the majestic theatre next door. Finding a parking spot in the front on the street is VERY hard to do during peak hours, so just be aware. Their music is pretty good too (if the remember to put it on).

Visited from the UK and I can see from the other comments people are saying it is expensive but believe me this is so cheap compared to what you have to pay in England (especially London) Had such an amazing night. The bar was ridiculously cheap too. $5 for a beer and jager bomb. Got smashed and bowled at 12:30am for under $40. Awesome. Not only that the auto-tune karaoke night was hilarious. Was sad to have to leave Detroit the next day and know that I couldnt see the amazing bands they had playing upstairs in the following weeks. It is rare to find a place as un-pretentious and cool like this in England, cherish and support it Detroit.

We were sent to two lanes that were down. It smells like smoke and beer. The bathroom is horrid. There is gafiti all over the wall and even a hole in the tile. The mirrors were painted black. Its hard to bowl because they have a tall table with speakers over four lanes. Their selection of music is trash. They dont have ball returns for each lane or for every other lane, the ball return is to the left and you share a ball return with their lane on the right of you. There is very little seating. The wifi is horrible and isnt secured. This place is out dated and the service isnt that great.

Nice lanes, good music, fully stocked bar, and pretty good weekday prices. Plus, theres a pizza place attached, so you can grab a slice, a brew, and a game all at the same time. Bartender also rents the shoes on slow nights, which is weird but cool. Im just happy that there is a good bowling alley within walking distance from WSU. I know we all like driving, but I would much rather save the $4 on gas I would spend going somewhere else and buy myself a drink instead. Bonus: Garden Bowl is kitty-corner from the Great Lakes Coffee company, which makes for an awesome night.

First of all they charge $4 for parking..now I know theyre on woodward DOWNTOWN but I dont know any bowling alley that charges for parking. Besides if u park by the meter u would come out cheaper. Also they play hippie music from like the 60s an the guy tried to charge me an my guy friend $21 total for two games that included shoes..ok a weekday??? We left an went to bonanaza bowling lanes in warren mi it was $7.00 total for us we played two games. Do not go to garden bowl theyre either racist or just retarded.

Its ok. If you have a problem with the staff or things just dont seem to go your way. Somebody may be bitching to much. They really take care of their regulars. The whole place has erupted in to a brawl before. People have been jacked all over the area. When Thursday dance night started upstairs it was known as fight night for a while. There have been national and internationally known performers that play upstairs, downstairs, and next door. On the whole its an entertainment complex. And a good one.

Garden Bowl Detroit: Oldest Bowling Alley in the US Operating since 1913, the Garden Bowl on Woodward Ave in Midtown retains its retro vibe and great prices! We have an hour of bowling for two with shoe rentals for $14 and craft beer on tap is $7 a pint. The furniture and lanes are well maintained and 90s alt rock is playing overhead. The family who owns this place have owned it for 80 years and we applaud their work to preserve this gem!
