Im ashamed that its taken me so long to visit! This place is absolutely gorgeous. Its obvious that good care goes into its upkeep, because the greenhouses were clean and manicured, while keeping a very natural, un-landscaped look. The houses were filled with plants and flowers that Id never seen before, and were just breathtaking. Some of the trees were enormous - I was impressed how large the space feels inside. My only minor gripe (not worthy of withholding a star) is that I felt the plants could have been labeled a little better. There were so many things Id love to know the name or family of, but couldnt find a sign.

Just like the Aquarium, Belle Isle Conservatory is free to view. There are 3 different rooms besides the main room with different plants. They have tropical, dessert, and everything in between. Just like the aquarium everything is original. I think my favorite room was the tropical plants. Theyre just so colorful and unique vs a typical plant you would find outside in the woods somewhere. The conservatory has a nice flow and it is easy to move from one room to the next. There is even an outside area with a koi pond.

Beautiful, historic conservatory. Staffed by paid horticultural experts and by volunteers. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. Well curated collection of temperate and tropical zone plants of many varieties. Outdoor patio and pond filled with koi during warm weather. Garden statuary and fountains, holiday plant exhibits, and lovely warm weather outdoor strolling areas. Great photo opps abound.

Just visited for the first time, and will return. Belle Isle is managed by the Michigan State Park system, so parking and entrance to all the attractions are free as long as you have the recreation passport on your vehicle (only $11 if you have Michigan plates). The architecture and plants are beautiful. The conservatory put me to mind of the early years of the Worlds Fair.

I have never heard of this place before until my wife saw it online. We decided to check out and we were amazing, this conservatory is beautiful inside and outside. There is some plants inside and the smell and the warm air inside reminded of my hometown in Brazil. I will definitely comeback soon .

A hidden Belle Isle gem that somehow doesnt get talked about nearly as much as the aquarium next door. Like most things on Belle Isle, the building needs a bit of tender loving care, but the staff always makes the most of it and there are always great new displays! Spring flower time is the best.

Ive been coming to the Belle Isle Conservatory(and the aquarium next door) since before I could walk. The entire island is beautiful, but the conservatory is truly wonderful. Best visited on those awful snowy sub-zero degree days, so you can walk into the tropics and breathe the fresh air.

Love this place. Great place for wedding and prom photos. There was a wedding party there when we visited. Full size palm, banana and fruit trees growing under the huge glass dome. Tropical flowers and cacti. And the outside gardens are great for walking.

We enjoyed this historical conservatory, it has many plants and flowers and cacti we have never seen before. You can tell there is a lot of history here and each separate room has a different set of plants, the hot room looks like a little jungle

Theres nothing like it in the area for those cold winters. Breathe the humid air and feel reinvigorated. Dont miss the perfectly Detroit graffiti on the cactus on your way out. This is a jewel in the crown of a once great city.

Been going to conservatory for 30 years. Always has been beautiful not just after the state took over. If you only started coming after state took over then you missed out because it hasnt really changed much.

Such an awesome way to spend the day, especially when it starts getting chilly outside. Nothing like stepping into a giant dome full of 80 degree temperatures and beautiful exotic plants.

Its a beautiful place for something you have to drive through Detroit to get to. I like coming here because of the gardens, not so much the aquarium.
