Im a longtime member of the Museum of Science. Its a great museum, but it is crowded on high demand days (school vacation week, for example). If you live in metro Boston, Id recommend a membership as it changes how you use the museum. Pop in to see one of the rotating exhibitions/new exhibits, explore some of the older stuff a bit at a time. Members get discounted parking, souvenirs, and food at the food court. If youre a tourist, theres a lot to do in the museum. Planning ahead is highly recommended: pick a planetarium or omnimax movie show. You wont be able to see everything the museum has in one day. There are some excellent exhibits and areas geared for very young kids. The rotating special exhibits and omni movies reward repeat visits. The recently redone human body exhibit is outstanding. Some of the older exhibits are a bit outdated and yet somewhat charming -- dioramas of New England environments with stuffed animals. There are lots of museum volunteers around and its well worth your time engaging them to learn more. The museum cafe is large and has a variety of offerings: burgers, pizza, pasta, burritos, salad bar, and a quasi starbucks cafe. The dining room can be very loud and somewhat difficult to maneuver in. The views looking out towards Boston and Cambridge along the Charles are fantastic. The museum has a dedicated parking structure and has a nearby T stop on the green line. Its also on the bike path that goes around the Charles River, though bike parking facilities could be better.

My wife, child and I decided to take our parents here when they all came up to visit. The museum always has something new to offer, even though we visit often we still find something new to look at or try out. If youre not willing to spend a minimum of 4 hours here then you may want to choose a different activity. Sure, you can speed through the MOS in 2hrs however youll definitely miss some really neat stuff like the lightening show or having a butterfly land on the brim of your hat or so many other cool things. Id also like to add, that unlike other museums or attractions Ive been to, the MOS food court is actually reasonably priced, they had a burrito place there in the past and it was only $8 for a burrito that youd get from chipotle and their grill is also super tasty. Try out the burger special it usually comes with a decent size burger and your choice of side for only $10. Check out some of their videos online itll only make you want to visit the place even more. Plus their website has a bunch of info on admission and show times. Have fun sciencing!

No one cares - web site is broken and doesnt allow to buy show tickets at member prices, as there is no way to add member number, and phone support states it is not working. Part of food on the menu is not there, so you stand in line for 15 minutes and need to go back and stand in another line - exactly my experience on 12/26/16. Many objects from the exhibits disappeared somewhere, but more and more "shows" for extra payment here and there everywhere. Too many virtual and touch screen exhibits, just like stupidity spreading gadgets kids use at home so they continue the same at the museum that could have been less relying on easy and quick popularity but more on real educational value it could have been bringing. Museum looks sad and half empty, in my opinion. Many unhappy employees with an attitude and it starts at the very beginning - in the coat check (paid, of course, unlike at MFA or museums that already have charged you a steep admission price). Most of nice things of the past have degraded there over last 8 or so years, very sad.

Ive been to the Museum of Science three times, and, the last time I went, bought a membership -- needless to say, Ill be going again soon :) Heads up: The memberships are absolutely geared towards families and married couples, but I purchased one for myself and my boyfriend just by giving my home address and pretending that my boyfriend lived with me, and then giving him a card when it came in the mail (youre supposed to be at the same address, but its sort of a dont ask dont tell policy) Anyway, I love the astronomy shows there, although I wish they were a little longer -- 30-45 minutes is just not enough time to explore the universe sufficiently! The math exhibit is really really cool -- and I never though Id say that about a math exhibit! The butterfly room is SO MUCH FUN, even after fighting through the throngs of 3 year olds. Yes, although popularly marketed towards families with children, Id say hipster 20-something couples and singletons of the sort who write reviews on Google+ will also love it :)

One of my favorite museums! Very interactive & hands on. Lightning shows! Dinosaurs! Planetarium! IMAX! Weve driven six hours, round trip, to visit this museum, and weve stayed overnight with the Girl Scouts. Definitely a place you can visit more than once. If you have the opportunity to do one of their overnight, its worth every penny. Being in the museum after dark is a great experience. Weve done it four times! You get to wander throughout the museum after its closed to patrons. They have a welcome show, sessions for the kids, and a special lightning show at 11p. After the show, you sleep among the exhibits!! The next day, the kids get to see a planetarium show & an IMAX movie. And you even get coupons for a free return visit. Id suggest bringing a light cot over an air mattress, though. You dont have a lot of time to get your gear ready before breakfast. And if you sleep in jogging pants & a t-shirt, you dont have to dress the next day ... theres a long line for the bathrooms ... youll thank me.
