My first visit to Maine Mead Works, I was quite impressed by the interesting varieties of mead (honey wine) made. From a traditional dry mead to mead made with lavender and hops (yes, Cascade dry hopped), I would recommend a stop by for any tourist heading north for holidays or south. On visiting, I was checking out the fermentation room when Ben (the owner) introduced himself and offered an impromptu tour. He was more than willing to show the special equipment required to made their mead, as well as their expansive aging room, where everything is aged (as it should) for 6-8 months at minimum. As a homebrewer myself (and aspiring beer/liquor/wine connoisseur), I was quite impressed. Five stars for the crew at Maine Mead Works.

How do people drink this? My girlfriends grandfather had the lavender one he acquired and we opened it and tried it. Tasted funky, like dirty medicine. Thought it was corked. I went to the store and we picked up a blueberry and also a regular semi sweet for my mom to try...again funky like dirty feet or something. Theres no good qualities to this wine, just funk. I cant see how people can enjoy this in any way and I love all kinds of wine....

Have become a groupy since our tasting in Portland. Loved everything we tasted. The Habanero Lime was outstanding. Saw it again in bar harbor wine store. Owner said she had just put 4 bottles up that morning. Only one left(which we bought to add to Our collection). She was placing another order after our raving about the just right balance between sweet tart and kick. Do I sound obsessed? I am! Now Ive got to get it in Alabama!

I had no other what mead was until I came to Portland, ME. Guess they are bringing that type of brewing process back in style to the hipsters and craft beer drinkers! And can do it bc theres more honey in the east coast. The meads were excellent!! 5 stars all the way... but for as busy as they were they only had one person manning everything. So at times we waited awhile for the next taster. Brought some home to Cali!

My sister, my daughter and myself were into Mead Winery on Friday for a tasting. Lea helped us with the selections and she was terrific. She spent time with us and explained the varied selections. The wines are very different, very fresh and very flavorful! A good representation of the wines we have in Maine.It is also a great experience for those people visiting from out of state!

Mead is quite good, but the customer service left a bad taste in my mouth. The brunette woman working there (7/11) is sarcastic in an off putting/rude manner. We were interested in placing an order and have purchased from HM before, but were still treated as nothing more than nuisances. Ive never reviewed a business online before, but after being treated so poorly how can you not.

Went with my wife, we did the taste test and came home with 4 different bottles. Absolutely loved each of them. I particularly enjoyed the semi-sweet. I dont remember her name but the young lady at the front counter was very friendly and knowledgeable, she was also extremely pleasant to chat with. Ill be going back very soon as I just finished my last bottle.

Very friendly service. The Mead tasted great. Im not a fan of the dryer meads, especially their blueberry. However the sparking meads were excellent. We did a tasting and our server was very attentive, giving us the history of each one. Dont be afraid of the Habanero lime. The tingle in your throat is worth it.

I walked in on a whim and was very glad I did. Tom behind the bar went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. I tried the mead tasting, particularly enjoying the the Strawberry flavor. Maine Mead Works uses innovative methods to produce mead, which I found interesting to learn about.

Great selection of mead. Very friendly staff in the tasting room and they also offer free tours. I highly recommend their Rams Island Lavender Lemonade. Limited quantities made which is why it is worth swinging by the tasting room. (Novare Res also tends to have it on tap).

The overall experience was fantastic. The tastings were really nice and each mead was well described. Ive been to several different meaderies across the country now and this one was among my favorites. Ill be sure to return the next time Im in Portland!

Honeymaker by Maine Mead Works is by far the best mead out there. The Lavender Mead is my favorite although I have tried all of the flavors and I love them all. Soothing and relaxing and I highly recommend drinking Honeymaker.

We were there for a bachelorette party and the staff is super friendly and outgoing, and very accommodating. It was all of our first times trying mead and the tasting was worth it - one ounce pours of seven flavors for $7.

Had a glass at Sillys across from the company location. It was the tea flavored mead. It was very good. It was on draft, so I dont know if the bottled version is as good.
