The USS Kidd is a retired US Navy Destroyer (a large boat) that has been permanently docked in Baton Rouge. I visited because a) I was interested and b) it is one of the few museums outside of a handful that are open on Mondays in Baton Rouge. There is an inside museum which is a bit sparse, but has a few interesting exhibits. The highlight is definitely the boat itself. You get to give yourself a self-guided tour and are given a map and some information to accompany it. It was fascinating to see the ins and outs of such a ship and understand for a short while what people experienced in WWII (its a 1940s era boat). Finally, understand that this is an old naval vessel. Theyve added some A/C to places but its hot when its hot out, there are plenty of tight spaces and very steep ladders. I couldnt see the elderly, those who have mobility issues or those with very small children enjoying it very much. Overall, I would highly recommend!

This was a great experience, I went with my dad and we are HUGE history nerds, if you are then this is the place for you, its filled with history and what it was like back in the 1940s on a Battleship and it has a great museum filled to the brim with past and present soldiers who have been in ther service for YEARS and the war memorial outside really makes you think about what weve done to deserve these people dying for us.

My dad served aboard the Kidd 1945-46. It was the greatest treat of his elder years to revisit her in 1999. The hospitality of the staff there was unequal in giving him the red carpet treatment. Dad passed away in 2012 from the ravages of Parkinsons disease at the age of 85, but took the day visiting the Kidd once again to his grave. Thank you so much for preserving this wonderful ship!

My first time exploring a real Decommissioned Destroyer battleship. Absolutely eye-opening, exciting and educational! Great for all ages! You can stay overnight as a kid too. I wish there was a night for adults! It was awesome to see the halls of memorials to the multitude of veterans of Louisiana. Louisiana surely is a home of brave people.

Our family visited on a Saturday afternoon. It was a lot of fun. We enjoyed seeing first hand what it feels like to be on a battle ship. We met and talked with one of the volunteers that keep the USS Kidd maintained. The ship is well cared for. The museum was very interesting. Our young boys really liked the model ships.

If your visiting Baton, Rouge make sure you drop by and see this historical piece of engineering. But be careful if you are tall for the ladders are very steep and narrow. Also there are lots of restrooms inside which really intrigued me. I feel like living in WWII seeing those well preserved memorabilias from the past.

Its such a treat to be able to explore a real battle ship. Wear light athletic clothing when you visit, because there are lots of ladders to climb to see all the areas of the ship. Its self guided, but its easy to follow the numbers to ensure youve seen everything that you can see on the ship.

The museum is a great place to learn about our past naval history. The models on display are amazing as well as other exhibits. The staff and volunteers are very friendly. Youth groups with children ages 4-18 can spend the night on the Kidd. What a great experience!

Loved this exhibit. I dont know anything about war ships but the remodeling job and authentic looked amazing. Inside exhibit was just as nice. Definitely something you HAVE to do if your in town. Price was nice and the experience was overall one Ill never forget.

Interesting and sad to read about some of the horrific experiences of the soldiers from the Vietnam and other places. The ship tour is organised with numbers but it is hot in summer, better to go on a cooler day. But it is bearable, the heat.

Very well reserved. The staff was extremely friendly & helpful. Lots of history. You get to explore the ship. Just make sure you wear closed toe shoes and would be a better trip to take with kids 6 and up. Definitely worth seeing.

This was well worth the time and money! It was very interesting to explore the ship at your own pace, our only complaint was that the self guided tour pamphlet wasnt always very clear on what you were looking at.

The only remaining Fletcher class destroyer that looks as it was during World War 2. Knowledgeable staff and much to see. Dont forget to visit the museum exhibits as well if you have the time.

Compared to the US NAVY I knew these guys had little in the way of comfort and equipment. For instance the analog torpedo computer on the portside weather deck on the bridge.

WW2 era American destroyer. Well restored and very interactive! You were able to touch and see in action many of the gun turrets and inner workings of the ship.

A small boat but just like a maze inside. Gives you a feeling how 300 soldiers stayed in it and fighting for our country.
