My wife and I went on a slow, rainy Saturday afternoon around 12:30 pm. We were seated outside on the patio. There was some confusion about who our server would be, but she finally made it out and got our drink/appetizer orders. She brought them out quickly, then took our meal orders. I got two tacos, my wife got a chicken quesadilla. We waited at least 40 minutes for the food. The restaurant was almost empty, so we expected it would be out faster. When we finally got it, we were very unsatisfied. The tacos were almost flavorless - the tortilla had a stronger flavor than the rest of the taco. My wife disliked her quesadilla so much that she ate a few bites of it. I tried it and I wouldnt eat it either. No flavor. I reached for a bottle of hot sauce on the table to add some flavor to my tacos, shook it up a bit, then opened it, and hot sauce started spewing out all over the place. I suppose that it had sat out so long it had fermented - I know this is probably a freak occurrence, but it still played into our experience. Lastly, the price we paid for our food was at least 30-50% more expensive here than we would pay elsewhere, and enjoy it. The atmosphere is nice, but the inexcusably slow service, flavorless food, and high prices will keep us from coming back.

My past experiences here have been good, except for the jalapeno appetizer that was ridiculously hot the first time I went. I went today, though, and we sat on the patio because the weather was nice and we had this waiter named Dane who was barely attentive. Everyone else on the patio had different servers than ours and they all seemed happy and got all their stuff in a timely manner. After we sat for a while, he finally came to our table. We ordered queso to begin with, and ordered some water, a bloody Mary, chips and salsa too. After a while, a different guy brought out our queso and we kinda looked awkwardly at each other because we hadnt gotten chips yet. A few minutes later, that same guy brought out some chips for us. He was doing a good job, as were the servers at the other tables on the patio. Anyway, our drinks finally came out. I dont feel like going through the whole timeline, but everything was just slow and we were afraid we werent going to make our movie in an hour. Everyone else on the patio looked like they were happy with their servers, but there servers were also checking on them regularly.

The atmosphere alone gives this place a lot of great vibes, but they were very quickly crushed by the absolutely dreadful service, food, and experience we had last night. Everyone who came in after us received their drinks and food before we even got our drinks. The drinks took 45 min to come, and our server didnt even let us know their was a backup in the bar (not sure why....the place wasnt busy). Then came the food (before our drinks even came out). We ordered 1/2 pound of chicken. The skillet we received was comprised of exactly one tiny cut up breast of chicken. When we asked for more chicken because clearly there was a mistake... they brought us a little more chicken that was so rubbery and burnt it was inedible. Terrible, terrible dinner with unapologetic server. Never coming here again. She should have asked the manager to come and make it right. This place wont last.

I love Mexican restaurants but Lava Cantina is just ... overrated. Not only the food is really basic/tasteless, but also expensive. The chips are really thick and hard, and the salsa is just ... it doesnt have any flavor. Taco Bells salsas better. The fajitas are really expensive and youre literally just paying for onions and peppers, we didnt even get guacamole. Chilis serves Guac with their 2 for $22; just to give you an idea on how basic guacamole is. Also, We order Margaritas because, oh well, were at a Mexican restaurant. We were properly ID, but when another server brought the Margaritas to us ... we were ID ... again. So, are you inferring Im giving you fake IDs? Im breaking the law to get drinks? You got the WRONG person.

Absolutely amazing! My boyfriend and I have been on a diet for most of this month, so we decided to kinda, sorta cheat one Sunday. We chose Lava Cantina. ,My BF has been here before and raved about the guacamole. I love guacamole,so we headed over. When we walked in, we were greeted by smiles and promptly seated in a booth. The vibe was really cool. I liked the album cover menus and the music videos that played while we waited for our waiter and throughout our dining experience. (It also helped us discover some new music) Anyway, we met our waiter, and HE WAS AMAZING! He was so nice, so down to earth, and so helpful. Our guacamole and catfish tacos were BOMB! This place is now one of my favorites. Will be going back soon!

Both times I have been at this restaurant, the hostess has been very rude. The first time I came, the hostess treated us as though she did not want us there. The second time, just had s bad attitude. I will not be heading back. To owner- The first time a went was about a month ago. The hostess threw our set ups on the table and seemed as though she just didnt want to be at her job. I really appreciate you taking the time to pay attention to what people write about your restaurant, and I think that you are doing a wonderful job. I just wish that the hostesses were a little more polite to the customers.

My server Isabella, was spot on and courteous. Great food selection and warm welcome. Never met the manager on duty, figured there would be one walking around checking on customers. The portion sizes are ok for the main dish but side items could be bigger. I think I only received two table-spoonfuls of Beans as a side. Wasnt sure if the bowls they used came from a playhouse kitchen set but Isabella hooked me up with additional beans. Probably because she saw that I was bigger than the apetite she saw. Service is excellent, side-item sizes could stand for an update in portion amount.

Service was slow despite how dead it was in the restaurant. Waitress seemed annoyed with me when I asked her for a water for the third time. Food took a long time to come out. We were informed that the delay was caused because they were THAWING out a $27 steak. The food tasted bland. The drinks were flat. Overall it was a very poor experience. I usually love going there for the food and margaritas but this time was a very negative experience compared to the service I received on other occasions.

First off the food was phenomenal. Second, I was here in Baton Rouge, LA, for a business trip and I am not familiar with the area. My cell phone was broke I could only use Siri to voice dial people. I looked up the number on the web and called them. The host, Aidan H. (name on receipt), stayed on the phone with me from the time I left the Hampton Inn until I arrived at the restaurant. I came back and it was absolutely great. The service was quick, the host was awesome, and the food was good.
