We visited today, which is still early spring; and although only the grass was green so far, the amount of bird calls were outdone only by the din of frogs croaking in the wetland. We went to take pictures, but also took video to save the nature sounds. The preserve is in the process of restoration to make it even more attractive to Illinois species. They already have several good stands of bloodroot along the path, which were blooming and lovely.

Subat has a gorgeous tall grass prairie full of big blue stem, Indian grass, compass plants and more. A wonderful place to watch birds and butterflies. There is also a fen overlook with native wetland plants and tons of hummingbirds. There is a large shelter and clean restroom facilities.
