Here are the great things: - location, location, location. nobody wants to spend half the day fighting traffic to get to a golf course on saturday. being centrally located is a big deal if you live in the city. - many of the reviews posted here are seven years old. SEVEN. things have improved considerably. the greens are fine, the fairways are trimmed well, and in general the course plays well. - not very expensive, especially with a players advantage card. you can have a couple of hours of outdoor fun with friends for under $20. i dont know of any other city course in the country that offers a better location for that price. Here are the not so great things - slow weekend play during prime months. thats just the way it is, but i challenge you to find any course in the city that moves on saturday or sunday morning. if you want to play fast youll have to drive pretty far, which basically cancels out the time saved waiting. and id rather be waiting outside talking to my friends than racing to meet some tee time or fighting traffic. - sand traps need work. they play more like a dirt road. i know how expensive they are to maintain, but this is a problem because more than a few holes rely on sand to make them more difficult. - no practice green. this is something within their control.

I never leave reviews. However, my most recent experience left me with no other option. From the moment we left the pro shop we were rushed. The ranger at the 1st hole stood behind us as we teed off and then we were followed by another ranger for the 2 holes after that. This was extremely frustrating because it took away from the overall golfing, enjoying the outdoors experience. We were not able to focus on playing and relaxing because all we good think about was keeping the rate of play. The worst part was the fact that we were constantly having to wait for the group in front of us to finish. At one point the ranger said to play into them and he would take the blame if they got upset. Both our party and the party ahead were frustrated by this. This is the 3rd time we have player at this course and we always experience the same issues. Therefore, we will not be coming back.

Marovitz is a challenging 9-hole track, previously known as "Waveland," that was opened in 1932 by the Chicago Park District. It is in a beautiful urban setting located between Lake Michigan and highrise apartment buildings overlooking Lakeshore Drive. It is especially beautiful at dawn as the sun rises over the lake. An early morning tee time is doubly rewarding for serious golfers because it avoids the torture of slow play. During the peak of the summer, 9-hole rounds can easily exceed three hours. As a popular municipal course, fairways, greens, and bunkers also take a beating. However, course conditions have improved dramatically since coming under the fine management of the Billy Casper Golf company.

This course used to be a dump and the laughing stock of local golfers. However, the management has completely turned the maintenance of the course around in 2008 and now the course looks and plays beautifully. The greens are still slow and leave something to be desired, but the fairways, rough, and bunkers are all excellent now. Some things have not changed though. It still takes at least 2.5 to 4 hours to play nine holes any time of day no matter what. If you are in a hurry, do not come to this course. I can dispel all the rumors you have heard: no more mud bunkers, no more homeless people sunning themselves in the fairways, and no more "rough" like fairways.

The Marovitz course is pretty decent. I cant be too scathing in my review, because it was a round early in the year and they have not had a summer of course maintenance to make the place look nice. I enjoyed the layout of the course, and only once thought, "Well this is a stupid hole" Not overly wooded, and for April the fairways were excellent. I will certainly play here again, and Im excited to see what it looks like later in the year.

A great 9-hole course in the heart of Chicago, just north of the loop on Lake Michigan.. This classic course plays quickly when it is not busy and offers a playable course with undulating greens. This course is usually in great shape, given the heavy traffic it receives. My only major knock on the course are the sand traps are usually hard packed and more dirt than sand. The sand traps definitely need to be dug and filled soon.

It is an awesome experience to play at Sydney Marovitz Golf Course. The staff is friendly and helpful, the overall course is perfectly and distinguished between the fairways, greens and rough as well as the bunkers. The most challenging part of the course is the greens. The greens are slow or fast and very undulating with lots of slope. I love this course. It is a lot of fun.

Not a bad little course along the lake. Prices are decent and the course condition is good. However, play can be unbearably slow, and sometimes a slightly errant shot might end up smack in the middle of another hole. Normally this would rate as three stars, but the convenience for downtown Chicagoans gives it a +1.

Above average course, very straight, cost effective. Dont try to get in all 9 after 6:10 because the pace of play is slow. good view of the lake on the right with sky scrapers on the left.

One of the best 9-hole courses you can play. On a nice day the views of Lake Michigan and the coast cant be beat. Pace of play is a huge drag typically.

Nice little 9 hole course off the lake. Prices are decent and given good weather the course is kept in good shape.
