I came here about a month ago to add another rat baby to my family. I already purchased two boys from the Batavia location in November. I had called the day before to confirm if they had any male dumbo rats available and the woman on the phone had to double check but confirmed that there were. So I went in and one beautiful brown and big-eared baby caught my eye immediately. I asked an employee to see that one ONLY if it was a boy. I saw her take it out but it took her so long to bring it out. After quite a few minutes, she finally brought it out and said she "thinks" its a boy. I was already holding the baby and became frustrated because I didnt want to bond with this baby if it wasnt a boy or else I could not bring it home. I explained to her that I already have two boys who are NOT neutered and dont want to accidentally bring home a girl and have babies. She took the baby back and after another few minutes, she said that the manager confirmed it was a boy. I was still very hesitant and asked to go in a room with the "male" to play for a bit while I called my boyfriend to discuss the issue. I will admit, we were fairly new to the whole rat parents role but we know what males look like. But the employees insisted that "since it was so young, it was still hard to tell." I already fell in love with this baby, so I bought "him." As the weeks went by, my boyfriend and I were becoming more and more skeptical of the babys sex as his testicles were NOWHERE to be seen. Finally after a lot of intensive research and conversations with other rat owners via a Facebook group, we confirmed that our "boy" was indeed a girl. We were deviated because we could not keep her as we didnt have any room for a separate cage. I did NOT want to return her so I gave her to a friend of mine who previously owned rats. It has been only two days since she left our family and I am extremely devastated and heart broken. I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this location and I will most likely never return.

We decided to "stop here" before going to Ikea, and ended up staying for 3 hours and not even going to our intended store. First I should say that we are massive animal people. Very big with reptiles but we own pets of every kind. For Aquarium Adventure, the fish section was beautiful and fun to look around. There was a guy that worked there named Kris that was more than helpful with the reptiles. He talked to us about a couple of the reptiles there and took them out to show us their behaviors. We ended up falling in love with a sailfin dragon. Which we will be going back in a week to pick up after we get the set up together. Petland was great for the socialized animals. I like the fact that customers can pick up and interact with the animals but the risk of spreading diease is so high. There are kids running around holding species after species and never cleaning their hands. Really we had to search for a hand sanitizing station. The animals were all very sweet but I can see us taking a pet home to find that its sick from a transferred disease. Plus some people treat the animals like dirt, there was a young girl that picked up a dwarf hamster, put it into the food dish and then proceeded to throw the hamster a foot in the air and catch it in the dish. No parent to be found and no one working their noticed until we pointed it out. After handling a couple of the animals we found a really cute mini rex bunny. We currently own guinea pigs but have never had experience with a rabbit. Thankfully a guy working there named Ken was kind enough to show us everything we would need from cage to food to treats. We were given a rough estimate on how much it would cost and what to expect in owning a rabbit. Overall the customer service was amazing even when they were visibly understaffed. My largest warning is be careful buying any animals from open cages. Do a full body inspection, check for any abnormalities in breathing or heart beat. Buy at your own risk.

The store looks nice but is highly deceiving! They allow giardia to spread between all the puppies (because they say you can only get it from eating the dog poop, yeah like dogs dont lick their own butts - no wonder u have to sanitize after playing with the dogs) I foolishly bought a min pin from this store. The associates promised me he was healthy and NOT from a puppy mill, hahahaha! He had a terrible case of Giardia that took 2 months to get rid of. Giardia is from contaminated water, no breeder would allow it to run wild through their dogs! Plus it makes them have bloody diarrhea. Petland denied my dog got the Giardia from them even though it takes weeks to develop, but in the end payed for almost all the treatments. NOW MY DOG HAS LEGG-PERTHES. LOOK IT UP ITS HORRIFYING!!!!! He had to have surgery to REMOVE part of his femur (leg bone). It is a genetic disease that can be prevented by not breeding dogs who have it (DUH no reputable breeder would do that either but a puppy mill would)He could possibly limp or not use that leg his whole life and Petland only covered the surgery!!!! They have the audacity to claim that the water therapy he needs to get the strength back in that leg is "only a recommendation". I went to the store numerous times and they want me to be grateful that they paid for the surgery, I cried in front of those heartless associates and still they dont care. All I can do now is write emails to the owner who never replies. Something needs to be done! I know theirs a class action lawsuit in another state against petland for RACKETEERING! They sell puppymill dogs for huge profits and then dont have to take any responsibility! Dont put ur self in this situation find a breeder or shelter if u really want a HEALTHY puppy...

Absolutely awful!!! Animals are being neglected and not being taken care of. I visited the boilingbrook Petland to purchase a ferret, we get there and ask to see them, the lady working just said "sure there over there just go pick one up"Ive been to other pet stores and found it odd that the employee just would let us pick up and play with the ferret with no supervision, especially after another customer an 8 year old girl was picking up the animals violently. It was just odd to me. Then one of the employees walked over and shook the ferret ball violently to wake up the sleeping ferrets which was extremely aggressive. I also noticed the lack of litter box in the ferrets enclosure. The cage was also filled with 4 baby ferret, which cannot eat the normal pellet ferret food. It must be mixed with water to make sure the ferrets can properly digest it. In the store, the food was not softened at all and as a result the ferrets were very skinny and I believe malnourished. The ferrets nails were also extremely too long and they were not provided with an appropriate amount of bedding and could not grip to walk. Lastly, an employee came over ate one point and started squishing something.. Im assuming mites, fleas, or ticks in the ferrets cage. When I asked her what she was doing she replied "it happens" and walked away. The whole experience was awful! I will never be shopping at a pet land again. I also will also be reporting the incident. It was awful and cruel. These little baby ferrets deserve so much more than how they are being treated! The experience was the worst Ive ever had at any petstore.
