Two men of Verona is one of their best productions in a long time..I came to see it on a whim, And enjoyed it more than most productions. It was creative, fun, lively, modern, and very entertaining. The theatre is a great physical space and a terrific stage. My only disssppointment is that if you arrive in the hour before the show they do not discount the seats. Moreover the box office staff can be jerks in person and are not welcoming. If I was management or on the board, I would fire the whole lot working there, as you could do no worse. This theatre excells at putting on really stimulating Shakespeare productions. The costumes actors and directors are great!

The Shakespeare Theatre favors "special effects" ["smoke"/"fog", lighting] that may not be compatible with some theater patrons disabilities/medical conditions. After receiving complaints, the Shakespeare Theatre merely added a disclaimer to its program, etc., placing the burden on the purchaser of tickets to inquire at the time of purchase regarding the special effects to be used. At least one -- now former -- Shakespeare Theatre attendee considers the Companys selection of contemporary special effects regardless of negative effect on audience members to be less than laudatory.

I watched the production of As You Like It on November 2 at the Lansburgh Theatre. The acting was very good, especially Jaques role was very well conceptualized and played. However, I was disappointed with the overall production -- the dreary, dull colors of the curtains and background failed to create the ambiance of the legendary Forest of Arden. I was looking forward to a magical evening in the midst of a natural setting. Watching Shakespeares love poems written on "post it" chits and stuck to grayish brown curtains was somewhat jarring.

Im surprised this place doesnt have a higher score - it won a Tony for Best Regional Theatre! Ive seen several plays here, all of which were beautifully produced and very fun to watch. I love that they have programs like Free for All that allow you to watch plays for cheaper than normal. This is a place every DC resident should go to at least once while theyre here.

The theatre looks nice and has a nice location. The issue is that the seating is very uncomfortable. They really need to update the chairs padding. Without that your feet are falling asleep the whole time since the padding is shot. Enjoyed the show we did see though

Shakespeare can and is continually rediscovered by Washingtons Shakespeare Theatre. It is a company that is neither afraid to experiment with the classics nor to present traditional interpretations.

Nice little theater. I love what the company has done recently, especially their work semi-sponsoring David Ives. Not just Shakespeare
