The Meridian Hill Park nestled in the Columbia Heights neighborhood and has a long storied history of ups and downs. This park has had a renewed lease on life as it was once on of the most dangerous parks in DC. The park used to be known for drug deals, murders and muggings, but is now host to sunny picnics, dogs, and drum circles. The transformation has been great for both the neighborhood and now is as safe as any park during the daylight hours. This park features one of the largest cascading fountains in the US and has lots of great niches to sit and enjoy the views. On Sundays there is a local drum circle that meets and pulls in lots of activities throughout the afternoon. Definitely worth checking out!

The architectural layout is quiet remarkable and the statuary along the grounds are beautiful. However, there is also defacement of property, vagrants lying around, the cascading fountains were dry and non-functional during the course of several day and night visits in warmer weather. Landscaping and pavement repairs are needed too. It is a pity that so many historical and natural wonders are left to the purview of the NPS and not a private trust, local governmental organization, or state organization for they seem to fall into disrepair the DC Metro Area (e.g. Fort Washington, Thomas Stone, Oxon Hill, Harmony Hall)

An incredibly beautiful hidden gem - this is one of those places that make you feel most at home when you live nearby. A park with so many private nooks and crannies while at the same time being a great place to meet and people watch. Go on Sunday to see the crowds and the drums, go in the morning for the peace and quite and dogs. I generally avoid late at night and very early in the morning and dont park your car next door over night. Tip: Come often when winter turns to spring because when they finally turn the water back on the stair fountains you can officially be excited for warmer weather.

My favorite park in DC. When I used to live in Mount Pleasant, Id go 3 times a week. It is on a hill (makes sense hence the name) and it has a great view of DC. Theres a lot of open green space and fountains and people are often working out here, having picnics, or just chilling. If I stretch my imagination just a little, it looks a bit like Versailles in France (again, a slight stretch of the imagination). One of the best things to do in DC happens at Meridian Hill Park in the afternoon on Sundays: the drum circle. Dozens of people gather with drums and people sing and dance and have TONS of fun.

Come for the drum circle! Every Sunday beginning in the summer, it is a well established neighborhood tradition for people to come out to the park for a big drum circle, where a diverse group of people sit together and make music for all to enjoy. It is a family-friendly environment where people can be seen dancing, doing yoga, juggling, fire throwing, and just sitting or standing and enjoying the beat. Grab your drum or other musical instrument and head on out this Sunday afternoon (it usually begins after lunchtime) for a musical celebration! It lasts til 9 pm.

Its a playground. If you want to chill, go there on weekdays..not that you cant chill there on weekends, but if the sun is out, its a party haha. I mean, a game-play-ful party. People doing yoga, throwing frisbees, doing slackline, playing guitar (im one of tgose dudes).. Just a goood plaace :) there are shops "near", but restrooms I think theyre not that good. I live near so I dont worry about it, but I have spotted the occasional pee-er in the bush.. All fair! happy life.. Check it on Sundays when the drum circle is on for full Meridian experience :)

A beautiful urban park with exposed-aggregate cast concrete terraces, cascading water features, shaded benches, plenty of landscaped niches and even a presidential monument (James Buchanan). The innovations and evolution of (DCs own) John J. Earley concrete designs are evidenced by the parks cast construction and pebble-dash finishes. The development of the park illustrates the rise of the gentry class in NW DC during the Victorian Era and Golden Age. Read about Mary Foote Henderson and her mansion across 16th St. Only her castle walls are left.

Its a beautiful lush park with a water feature that takes over the bottom fifth of property. Dont miss it in its full glory in the summer time. Great for picnics and games of soccer. Its fully alive on beautiful days. I may be careful strolling through there by myself late in the day/evening or early early in the morning, due to suspicious activity. Otherwise its a magical park that pulls you out of the DC of the National Mall, and places you into a historic opulence of local history.

I visited on a Sunday afternoon and loved it. Interesting architecture and lots of statues, obviously being apublic park it could use some twerking up but this doesnt take away from the beauty of the structures and the fountains. They also had an African drum circle which was very vibrant. Its a place where you meet all kinds of personalities and cultures in one small space. I wa sable to meet artists, watch guitarists as well as enjoy the weather. I would recommend it

This is a beautiful, vibrant, family friendly park that is worth visiting if you are in the neighborhood. Every weekend you will see tons of folks reading, lounging, picnicking, playing soccer and Frisbee, doing yoga, walking the slack line, and all together enjoying the park. Every Sunday there is a wonderful drum circle where you can listen and dance your feet away. Come out and experience this park, you will not be disappointed.

just as all the other places to go in DC i have done it and done it again. this is my home for 54 years. born here in DC General hospital 1960. so basically i can give you the history on all these places. i have been to any of the parks, or atttactions here more than enough times, as a child thats all i did alone because i had nothing to do after school and in the summer so i found it exciting and fun to go to all these places.

Nice spot to retreat to in a fairly busy area. We witnessed a beautiful wedding and the scenery was perfect for the small occasion. The park could use some TLC with cleaning up the side steps/entrance areas but once you are on the grounds, the long views especially by the man made waterfall makes everything OK. Seems ideal for intimate weddings, meetings/meet-ups and even outdoor exercise groups.

Its a beautiful park. A lot of attention was paid to the design and building of this park, however today some areas are in need of repair. Some portion of the fountain is not working and it looks like it has been out of commission for some time. Broken and uneven pavements, overgrown weeds, and dead grass. As other reviewers have said, youll notice a colorful mix of individuals in this park.

This is the park designed in the European garden Style, it features and elevated overview Northwest Washington and plenty of space for activities and strolling. There are also statues of Dante and Joan of Arc. On Sunday evening there is a drum circle which is fun to attend. This park is also known as Malcolm X Park. Finally there is a little visited Monument to President Buchanan.
