I grew up on this course, learn to play here over 50 years ago. Then it was just a nine hole course. Eventually expanded to 18 holes. Played there regularly for many years, and it was never really well-maintained. Went back this week and I was extremely surprised at the improvements that have been made. Highly recommend anyone in the area to give it a try. Greens were in great, great shape. Many improvements, such as several well laid out asphalt cart paths. Realigned several holes to make them fair, but challenging. Cleaned out many areas of brush and undergrowth. Ponds are well-maintained, with good landscaping. Will definitely go back next time Im in Connecticut.

The workers were very pleasant and very helpful. On 11NOV16, the gentleman who was working the room and bar area was GREAT. We were there for a luncheon, memorial for a dear friend who was a Veteran of the Korean War. The gentleman, mentioned above, made it possible with his personality that we all nearly forgot the reason/sadness that we were there for. People like that are essential in all businesses. The food was very tasty. We had wished the macaroni and cheese had been hot. The presentation of the food was good. The cleanliness of your establishment, was exceptional. People should visit and eat at this golf course. A+ TH Nakatani and Ed Dzikiewicz

Came for the first time 8/4/17. Was surprised at this hidden gem. Course is clearly making a comeback. I absolutely love the layout-- its challenging yet playable. The place is steeped in history as the course was once the focal point of a resort dating back to the 30s. There is so much potential here with a great club house and the surrounding real estate. Come on out, support local golf and give the course a try. The prices are very reasonable and the staff friendly.

Banner Lodge rebranded as Black Birch and has declined even farther, remaining one of the worst cared for courses you will find. With a layout that has the makings of a great course, clear signs of neglect can be found throughout. Expect to find tee boxes with nothing but crabgrass and dirt, inconsistent and patchy greens, and embarrassing fairways. Even the bunkers were full of hard sand that has clearly not been properly sourced or maintained. The staff was very nice.

Customer service in the clubhouse was nice. The fairways are kind of thinner than you think once you go and walk the course. Alot of burnt patches of grass make it a little dusty, especially on the front 9. Some long par 5s and par 3s make it fun and interesting but mostly a par 4 course. Still was some re-seeding taking place on the back 9 but overall an average course. Better than what it was but still average.

I have played banner lodge for years( only front 9 because the condition of the back 9) I went back a week ago under the new management and played 18. Was very pleased to see how much time and money have gone into improving the course. Will be making a visit back today hopefully to play 18 again. Things dont change over night so Im looking forward of the future of this very well improving course.

They are just finishing up work on the course (adding sprinkler system) and besides where the work was done the course was in good shape. The course plays really well, a few par 5s so there are some long holes. Sand traps are pretty big. The clubhouse is fantastic as is the bar and restaurant on site.

The course is alright, but not great. Its casually taken care of, but not well attended too. The paths are a mess, and the fairways are fairly long. Its also kind of hidden away from the main roads. Road noise is very low on the course, but it takes quite a bit of time to get back to the highway.

Cheap to play. The course is very shabby. They are trying to improve but very slow on doing so. Good to play early in season when trying to get the rust out of game because of price. The layout is nice.
