The discrimination of gender and ethnicity displayed by this so called business is absolutely outrageous. If there was a way that I could give this place no stars, I would. A promoter gave me a card that specifically advertised no cover for myself and a guest from 5pm-10pm. My friends and I decided to go check it out since the promoter did so well at his job. When we arrived we got in line and waited for about 15 minutes. When my group got to the front of the line, they separated us. They took my two young pretty girl friends from our group and let them go in first accepting the no cover card. When myself and my guy friend, who were right behind our two friends tried to get in using the same card, the security and the cashier denied us entrance, stating that they no longer accepted the card after 7 pm contrary to what the card clearly stated. This is a prime example of FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. So they allowed entry to two young pretty white girls free of cover but they were charging my Hispanic guy friend and myself, a lesbian Latina female $20 each for cover. Not to mention there was also a group of African American girls disputing with the security because they were being denied entry to the club when they were letting all the other pretty white girls in. I am appalled with the discrimination and racism that management allows to go on at this establishment. I have a friend who just so happens to be a business lawyer in LA county, I might just have to have him swing by this place with me sometime. Horrible customer service and very rude staff. Management should seriously consider hiring a new staff and readjust their policies, or they can expect going out of business, or having a very serious law suit on their hands. Im surprised they are still in business. If you want to have a good time, dont go here!

SideBar is a poor excuse for a night club. More like a wannabe. I gave it one star as it wont post with zero. Its so small. Looks crowded as they keep the back closed until the little front is totally cramped. Besides a huge cover at the door, one must pay more for a place to sit down. Not a table or chair unless you cough up a hefty fee. Lots of empty seating as all of it is roped off with "reserved" signs. And the bouncers rudely enforce. Drinks are quite expensive and watered down. I tasted no liquor in mine at all. Ive never paid so much for a glass of ice & sprite. The dance floor is actually the walkway around the bar so all you can do is stand in one spot and shake a little. They had one entertainer that was supposed to dance on the bar or in the window but she was too busy playing with her storm trooper helmet. The fog machine is in the ceiling. Not a bad touch unless you are standing under it when it goes off. I had to pick white stuff out of my hair and off of my clothes plus i got wet from just one blast. There are LOTS of nicer, less expensive clubs in the Gaslamp area. Stay away from SideBar. It should be called The Money Pit or for the owners The Cash Cow! The people that work there and the management are just plain rude. Ill NEVER go back.

WHY ISNT ZERO STARS AN OPTION. The sexist bouncer let in multiple boys with fake IDs and CONFISCATED mine and another 21 year old girls REAL IDs. I have never been treated so rudely. Came for an event & they profiled me and confiscated my real ID claiming it as counterfeit even though everything checked out (it was real). They did the same thing for my friend and refused to give it back even after she showed multiple credit cards and forms of identification. They were extremely rude and sexist the whole time and said we would have to go to the police station the following Monday to get them back. Worst night of my life, and WORST staff ever. Completely ruined my night and seemed to enjoy doing so. If you like having fun NEVER go to this club EVER. You will regret it. Needs to be shut down immediately

If you want to overpay for drinks in a mediocre environment with God-awful service, Sidebar might just be the place for you. I was there with friends on what should have been a pretty fun Wednesday night. After paying the outrageous $20 cover, I ordered a $16 LI iced tea (which wasnt bad, so if you ignore my review and head there anyway, try one). Then I ordered a round of "well" tequila, only to be surprised by bartender and presented with $12.25 shots of Patron. A sly maneuver on her part, but a terrible move from a service standpoint, so I closed the tab and left no tip. I was surprised when I got my bank statement to find that she had given herself a little token of appreciation on my credit card. Needless to say, I wont return, and I hope you save yourself a trip there as well.

Ridiculously expensive . First of all they charge to 10 $ to get in this whole in the wall bar that they call New York style. Then there was only one bar tender for about 300 people and you cant even ask these boys that they have in the bar-back for a drink because there not allowed to serve drinks. No where to sit, if you want a table you had to buy a 2 bottle minimum which for me and my date would have been 750.00 , I paid for two drinks 28.00 i Tipped two dollars just because she took forever too bring my drinks got frustrated and walked away from the bar. Bar tender can have the two bucks. Ill never step foot in this bar again that they call supposedly New York style....

This place is something else... I left my phone there, someone who worked there called my husband to report it recovered which was awesome. I came in the next day to pick it up and the manager couldnt find it. Long story short, the finder left it sitting on the bar after close and someone who works there stole it. The (part) owner just said sorry about that. Its one thing to lose your phone but its another to know you have employees who steal. This is unacceptable from a business standpoint. Other note, the ambiance is ok if youre into unattractive people because the clientele is pretty bad.

Came here to pick a friend up after they refused to give her back her real driver license because they claimed it was counterfeit. Was forced to bribe the bouncer in order to get it back because the nonemergency police line was busy and she uses her car for work. Filing a police report. There literally job is to be able to tell which IDS are real and which are fake, and confiscating an ID as a civilian or rent a cop is illegal unless they turn it directly over to the police. Which they had no plans to, as they told her she could pick it up on Monday "if it was real." Idiots.

Everyone writing bad reviews r losers! Sidebar is the most happening spot downtown! I was bored on a wed. Night, nothing going on downtown except sidebar! The staff was great! I didnt evan have to wait in line! The cute bouncer let me & my girlfriend in through the vip-bottle service line. Everyone in side was very well dressed & good looking! So all u haters putting bad reviews, its prob. Because u have no class & dont know how to dress!
