I was born just a few blocks south of Belmont Park. My grandfather, dad and uncle owned and operated the old Fun House in the parkduring the 1950s-60s and my brother and I spent many, many hours helping out, either selling tickets or running the wheel. Tuesdays were Dime Day and I can remember standing outside yelling - "one dime, only one thin dime to attract customers...my dad next to me wearing his red and white ticket vest and a white panama hat. Dad also ran the shooting gallery across the midway and uncle Bob had the Knock Mabel out of Bed game at the south end of the midway. All the carnies were like aunts and uncles to my brother, John, and I. Mrs. Doll, who took tickets at the Merry-go-Round, was our official babysitter. Penny Quinn (the water game) and Shut Up Frank (batting cage) were some of our other favorites. The ring toss sisters were special ladies, along with Babe and Mike, who had the game where you had to cover a record label with 5 circular discs. Charlie, who made gold wire jewelry was next to the Fun House - while you waited he would make a pin with gold wire that spelled your name. The Penny Arcade was a great place, along with the caramel apples and cotton candy stand. Cant forget the Bluebird Cafe on the east side of the midway at the north end. One of my duties was to get coffee for the concession owners, and the waitresses taught me how to carry 4-6 cups without spilling a drop. My step-dad (family drama here) ran the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster - so John and I had free access any time we wanted. Needless to say - we rode it a LOT - and loved showing off by throwing our hands up high during the entire ride. (A few years ago I got to show my grandboys that Grams could still do it...what fun!) After meeting my husband, Woody (who was also born and raised in San Diego and spent a lot of time at the park chaperoning his older sisters while they were with dates at the roller skating rink in the park) he told me about remembering a little girl with white hair running the Fun House wheel. I laughed and said...that was me! He was probably about 14 and I was 10. Dad would have been in the ticket booth, but only a buzzer away if any trouble should occur. Thanks for letting me share a few of my special memories from growing up on the old Belmont Park Midway. Im so glad the Save the Coaster committee formed and was successful at restoring this wonderful landmark. Even though the park is different now, it still brings back those speical feelings from the 1950s and always makes me feel like Ive come back home. Susi Phillips Porter

The Boomont.... poor excuse. Belmont park is great though. I had purchased 2 tickets to the haunted house. $12 later I come to find out my son did not want to participate in the activity. I asked for a refund at the ticket office. They declined saying there were no refunds. First off , that was not made clear to me when I purchased them. I guess on the sign that advertises all the rides, at the bottom, it states that there are no refunds available. I understand it is posted, but it was not obvious or posted near any of the registers. This was my first visit. I did not know about the sign and it was not clarified to me either. I understand about the no refunds. But $12 for a shabby haunted house, no communication, no exchange? Kind of a scam. I went to try again to take my son. They took my tickets and asked me to wait a few minutes to warn the people inside about no surprises. My son changed his mind again. He is 3 years old. So I understand. When I asked for my tickets back they told me they had already ripped them up. There was nothing they could do. I could ask the people around if they would like to take my place. No one wanted to. So that was it. There was nothing they could do. (?) Not only that but the employees associated with the boomont festivities were not professional, friendly, understanding or accommodating in any way. I understand I am at a carnival, what can I expect? But even the guy at the pizza place treated my son and I with more respect and understanding. After that I just wanted to leave, we were tired and I didnt want to make a scene in front of my son. I called today and spoke to management. He informed me that they do not refund on any tickets, that it was part of the rules upon their agreement with the people they hired for the Boomont festivities. But they do offer free face painting or a pumpkin instead. Which was not brought to my attention at all by the supervisor in the ticket office or at the door of the haunted house. I guess there is nothing they could do. I would have to drive all the way down there and take it up with them for any type of reimbursement. Its only $12, but $6 for an adult and $6 for a 3 year old for a poor excuse of a spray painted plywood haunted house. I am completely dissatisfied with Boomont. All of the festivities were disorganized, cheap, unappealing and just kind of sad looking. I did enjoy the regular Belmont attractions and employees. But the Boomont, not worth the gas.

Two stars for the location, its right by mission beach. The park didnt have many rides at all. I visited during the kids free all October long. I was told two paying adults but the $30 unlimited rides bands would get one child per adult in free. And that my one year old would be free. We drove there and ended up buying a unlimited ride pass for baby to find out he could only get on. Three rides. The other rides were very minimal, couple big rides for my son who could not get on anything over 48. My daughter was only one who could get on all rides that were under that unlimited band. We found other rides that we could not get on, like the extreme rides, rock climbing, zip line, rope walk. They said we would also have to buy a wrist ban if we wanted to ride unlimited on the extreme rides. All in all once we paid for two adult wrist bands and one wrist band for my one year old, we quickly notice that this wasnt worth $80. They still couldnt get on a lot off stuff because those rides had additional cost. I will never come back unless its free so guess that will be never. But I will go to mission beach it was beautiful. Over priced food in the park also. My kids did have some fun but wanted to do the extreme rides and I couldnt afford to buy tickets after I purchased unlimited bands. They really should include all rides with wrist bands.

Great spot for dates. The ride attractions are dated but still enjoyable. I never felt unsafe. I recommend the mini golf course (recently renovated), Big Dipper, and the zip lining. It costs $30 for an unlimited wristband pass from Costco. I think thats a better deal than what youll find on-site. You also get coupons! It is extremely crowded on the weekends. Good luck finding parking after the park opens because the lots get filled up with patrons to both the park and the surrounding beaches. We ended up parking at the Sports Arena Square Shopping Center and calling an Uber/Lyft. Its much easier than driving in circles to find parking. If youre a Pokemon Go player, Belmont Park and the surrounding beaches has plenty of Pokemon stops. And, if you are reading this during the Pokemom Go anniversary event then youre in luck. The event Pikachu with Ashs cap spawn here. Belmont Park has one of the best funnel cakes ($8) and ice cream ($5.50). They are generous with the servings. Do not go to their arcade. Most of the games were out of order and it takes the staff forever to help us out. They dont even bother trying to put out Out of Order signs so that other patrons would know not to play the games. If you do encounter a faulty game, dont let them screw you over your money. Ask for a refund.
