I am back into the hobby with my young daughters after a very long hiatus. My only other experience was with a 10 gallon tropical community tank I had when I was ten. (Believe it or not, my fish back in the mid-seventies all came from Kmart!) I do my homework but have a lot of questions. I find all of the employees (particularly Yvonne and Ernesto) very patient and I always find them very knowledgeable and their advice to be very good. (They have probably saved me from accidentally massacring some nice fish a time, or two, with some rookie mistake!) I am back into tropicals and Aqua Works doesnt seem to have a bias toward saltwater fish like you can feel in some other shops. Also, sometimes I have had a hard time in other shops in Sacramento making myself understood. None of that at Aqua Workz! I should also mention that Ive never bought a sick fish from them (knock on wood) and theyve had no problem buying back fish at wholesale which dont work in my aquarium because they are either too aggressive - or not aggressive enough! Ive been back into tropical fish for about two years, now, and used to frequent all of the other viable aquarium stores in town but now I take my business exclusively to Aqua Workz without a second thought about going elsewhere! Not that there arent other good shops in Sacramento but, for me, Aqua Works is definitely best. Happy fishing, (?) Greg

Extremely rude and unknowledgeable staff. This place used to have a bit more class a few years back when it was newer however it has lost anything that it had. Selection was weak and the staff was super rude and confrontational. They demanded ID with use of credit card even though it is against the visa/master Merchant agreement. Then an older large lady who felt she was in charge of life claimed to call the Merchant Services and had a semi long fake convo with some random person and came back to say "They said I am within my rights to ask for ID" This is 100% incorrect and it was obvious she was lying when she came back to say that. Search the merchant agreement and you will clearly see that you may not refuse sale for refusal to provide ID on a credit card transaction. After she was a theatrical and rude and the tweaker fish boy went away gawking "What the f***" In front of my child I decided to leave these classless fools and to keep my money. Aquarium Depot is a much better option and much nicer while following the rules too! I would give these morons negative stars if I could!

This is the best Aquarium Store around. From someone who has been in the hobby for 10 plus years. This is the best store i have found within a 75 mile radius. With that said here are my pros and cons. Cons: Like any other aquarium shop this one is under staffed so going on the weekend can get a little hectic because thats when everyone is in there. So go on a weekday or early in the morning. Other than that there arent any cons. Pros: Every one working there knows an immense amount about the fish, if the person is employed there, they no doubt know alot about the fish. There fish are priced to sell. Unlike most aquarium shops, this place puts a price on there fish so that they can get sold and you know they arent just sitting in the tanks for weeks on end. They have just as much freshwater as they do saltwater. So to all you Freshies out there. This store is also for you. I highly reccomend this place due to the extreme amount of knowledge and absolutely perfectly priced livestock and merchandise.

Great selection of fish and tanks. One thing I was not a fan of is that there were multiple species of fish and inverts in one tank, making it a bit difficult to find and look for the species you want. I like to see and observe the stock before purchasing in case of any disease/sickness. Overall, many species available for sale and to pick from. I was looking forward to some "show quality" goldfish (ranchu and butterfly), shrimps, and nano fish but the day I went in, the store only had a few in stock of each. Plants are plenty and common. A store to visit if you want to shop around for fun for aquatic stock or supplies. Many workers but it was a bit confusing to find which one was able to help catch stock you want since many were either cleaning, walking off to other rooms, or helping the other customers.

If youre an ethical pet owner, dont support this store. They sell fish that have been injected with dye and painfully tattoed with heart symbols. The injected dyes and tattoos are painful to the fish and give it a short miserable life. In addition, all of their peacock cichlid tanks were filled with brilliantly colored males, even though in a "normal" tank, only a few males will show color. This likely means that the fish are fed food with hormones. Hormoned fish usually lose their colors when they come home from the store, and are often rendered sterile and unable to breed. Furthermore, those hormones may or may not stay in the fish, so changing your fishs water can expose YOU to these chemicals too. Sacramento has plenty of good fish stores to choose from - why support an unethical one?

You guys have a pretty good team. But your selection in fish arent so good their arent that many unique fish and the fish are infected with disease. From my experience there all my fish have died from white spots and fin rot and I had a well Quarantine set up. They are in terrible conditions, fishes that are about 3 to 4 inches in a 20 gallon all packed in there. So I suggest that anyone trying to by fish from there, they are not good fish to have in your tank. I recommend Exotic aquarium much better fish they last way longer no diseases and etc. Their selection in fish are amazing and they have a lot more to choose from. Why waste your money on fish that will die, yes they give you store credit but your back to buying fish that will end up just dying.

While this store has an extensive selection of saltwater fish, the service is terrible. I am new to the hobbie and was looking for an anemone for my clownfish - this store sold me the most finiky one on the market! And this was after I had spent 30 min telling them that I was looking for an easy anemone that could house most clownfish. Aside from lying about their product to make a few extra bucks - the anemone was DEAD before we even got it home. In fact, it was dead when we bought it! If youre looking for a place to check out some cool fish - this may be your kind of store. However, I would NOT SUGGEST purchasing any of their products as they are in TERRIBLE condition. Go to H2O solutions right down the street.

This is one of the larger Aquarium shops in town! I have got to admit I was suprised to find it. Stumbled on it when looking for some quick supplies one weekend and Petsmart sucked and Petco has gone trash. This place is on the scale of Capitol Aquarium. Extensive freshwater / saltwater tanks & species, live corals, plants, koi, supplies, knowledge, information, and helpful employees. Display room stuffed very large tanks of all configurations for you to take home. Employees helpfull and knowledgeable and you do not have to wonder where they went when you are ready to buy. They take all credit cards and are open weekends too. Definitely worth a stop ..... even if you just want to look.
