I embrace the challenge of testing my game on new courses. Knowing all the breaks and ideal landing areas does produce a lower score, but is the game only about scoring? To me, theres no greater thrill than getting it right the first time through. Since I frequently travel for business, I take the opportunity to play courses all over the US and Canada. My dream is to play every course in North America. Saying that I was pleasantly surprised by Montebello is an understatement. Not only was the course was in excellent shape, but it was aesthetically pleasing. The greens were moderately fast with perfect undulation, the fairways were lush and the tee boxes were large and level. The bunkers contained actual sand that was cared for by a professional. Every hole was lined with mature trees. The course offered all the challenges a golfer looks for: varying length holes, elevation changes, left AND right doglegs, risk/reward holes, water hazards and at least one monster par 3. Montebello has it all. The pace of play was perfect at 4:10 for an afternoon round. I also evaluate how the staff treats players to determine if they should get my money or not. The staff was very friendly. The players assistant, a gentleman named "Skip" from Baton Rouge, Louisiana proved to be the consummate course ambassador (I recommend changing his job title to that) with greetings at the first tee and kind words as we crossed paths throughout the round. The only downer was the limited selection of course logo items in the pro shop. I concede that it was late in the season. There is a grill with cooked food as well as a deli and a full service bar. The green fee with a cart was much better than I expected for a course of this caliber. Montebello has been permanently added to my rotation whenever Im in the Los Angeles area. I played on September 20, 2012.

We would have rated it 0 stars if it was allowed. The staff is SO RUDE, accusing my partner of LYING to him. And he literally was yelling at us. The reason is my partner made a reservation for a group of five. (At that time, none of us knew the limit of a group size is five.) Until the last minute, my bf also decided to go. So six of us, three carts, seemed fine, because two of us didnt plan to play.The person who took our reservation refused, simply saying we couldnt do that, its the policy. We didnt quite get the policy, so we said we were willing to pay the full amount for six of us, and 3 carts were just fine. He started to walk away from us, turned his back towards us, shouting it was the enforced policy and yelled at my golf partner you told me there were only five people, you LIED to me. And he went inside. Well, my partner was too shocked to react. My bf felt so bad and disappointed that they treated us this way. We didnt want to wait for another 40 min to get another reservation. Its our second visit but we would never come back to this course again. For a mediocre maintained golf course with the worst possible service, its so not worth it.

Could the staff be any more RUDE. The starter working the morning of Saturday July 11, 2015 (hispanic guy) would not let us out because we were only a twosome, so we waited for a walk on for over an hour! The frustrating part, besides his obvious disdain for his job was watching him lean on the counter doing nothing as nobody was sent to the first tee for thirty minutes. We could have been long gone! If youre not a celebrity or an officer, dont expect any love from this course. As we told our story to everyone on the practice green, all seemed to have a story about this staff. Thank goodness the course was in decent shape and keeps people coming back. Rude staff!!!!!!!!

Never got to play - called at 3pm to ask if open or if still had 9 hole times - guy on other end clearly thought I should not play as kept saying but the course closes at 5. 2 hours in a cart is more than enough time for a decent handicap golfer - EVEN A WOMAN - to finish 9 holes. He disagreed, then told me the rates the hotel gave me were wrong and increased them to nearly 18 hole rate. Told him I did not care if finished the 9, but let me pay for the 9 and just enjoy the course for 2 hours, yah not an option with this guy. WARNING TO ALL FEMALE GOLFERS - IF YOU WANT TO PLAY GOLF HERE GET HERE BEFORE NOON OR THEY THINK YOU CANNOT POSSIBLY FINISH A ROUND! R

I cant imagine why anyone would say that the staff at this course is unfriendly. Al and I were in town for the Rose Bowl and they bent over backwards for us. And dont miss the bar where the usual TV personalities show up. The golf pro Eddie is fantastic.

Took WBC Contender Mando Muniz for a golf fund raiser. Early so we had breakfast. Food was very good. Place clean. Could of had 5 stars. CNN on TVs. Not were I want to see news.

Decent 2 tier driving range. Practice balls are in average shape as well are the practice mats. Very quiet practice. Chill.

Not a good managed course. Twilight start at 12:00 Noon. If you play twilight rate, it is not the bad course to play.
