Played on a Wednesday afternoon while on vacation. Played the South. Absolutely beautiful in excellent condition. 30 yard fairways, 3/4" first cut and 3" rough! Straight shots rewarded and the most penal rough Ive ever played. Couple that with the length(we played the taupe tees) and it is the toughest course Ive ever played but also some of the most beautiful views. I loved every minute even when it was eating my lunch. Nice pro shop with to be expected prices. Greens were surprisingly slow(8-9) but I was told it kicks to 12 for tournaments and 14 for Opens. They rolled beautifully. Surprised that the practice area/driving range was not more in tune with the course. I played 3:10 twilight so I was happy with the $116 but next time around the $192 morning would not be out of the question as a non-resident. Pro shop, payment window and starter were pleasant and helpful but this is almost always luck of the draw. If you play and youre visiting the area...dont miss it! It is full of great shots, views and memories. If you live there, Id play it at much as I could. 2021 US Open site and recently named 17th toughest course in America by Golf Digest. No surprise here.

Where do I start? I played there on 9/13/13 and we were incredibly disappointed. While the course has some great views and its fun to play where the pros play, everything else was a disappointment. For example: 1) They nickel and dime you with the fees: $225 greens fee, $20 cart fee, $45 non-refundable fee to reserve the tee time, $10 for range balls. 2) Course is mediocre condition, we expected a lot more for $300/person. 3) No service whatsoever. We didnt know where to go or what to do. You have pay for your greens fee and the cart fee in 2 different places. No starter either. 4) The range was matts only - you had to buy balls down there too. 5) Bathrooms hadnt been cleaned in days, maybe weeks! 6) The few people we spoke to there werent helpful or nice. Before we teed off, we asked one of the guys working in the cart barn if there were any tips he had that would help us on the course. His response was, "yah, dont go to Del Mar Racetrack." and walked away. 7) The beverage cart came by twice during the entire round. I will never go back, completely overrated and overpriced. Go play Trump or Pelican Hill for the same price.

Played the North Course last weekend and it was in absolutely horrid condition. The starter told us they just overseeded and discounted the course by $19 "for conditions", but neither the clubhouse nor the starter told us the course was a muddy doggy track. They should be embarrassed to charge anyone a $43 advanced reservation fee and then an additional $106 to play the course. $149 to play a dog track is unacceptable. We made sure to call 90 days in advance to make a reservation, because we knew the course is in high demand, but this was incredibly disappointing. To top it off, when we went into the clubhouse after to complain, they did nothing to try and make us happy. The views were great and there were a couple of cool holes, but remember you are playing a Muni Course, so expect a Muni layout. I wouldnt have minded the layout had the conditions been better. I would highly recommend avoiding this course for the next 3-4 weeks. Even the locals said this was the worst shape they have ever seen the course.

Although the appearance has slipped, that will come back once the drought and watering regulations end. I have noticed the way the course is managed has declined. Maybe thats a reflection on how poorly the city of San Diego has been run the past decade. I was out with my son and two drunk guys were hitting into us around twilight. My son almost got hit and when I confronted the guy he wanted to start a fight. The Marshall had taken off early and when I called for support the lady said nothing could be done. People were cutting across the course to try and finish before dark and it was chaos. I hope the city doesnt let the course go to the private sector. After how poorly the city handled the 100th anniversary of Balboa Park, it would be one more City failure. Torrey Pines should always be a trophy for Americas finest city.

I arrived the first day and an employee shuttled me from my car to the pro shop. He said just drop your bag here in front of the building and near the putting green. "They will be safe here" he said. That worked just fine. However the second day when I came back to my bag after checking with the starter, my Scotty Cameron putter was missing from my bag. So if you go to Torrey Pines, keep an eye on your clubs. If you are a single, as I was, take your clubs down to the cart area and ask one of the employees to keep an eye on your clubs. It just was not the experience I expected at a course as well known as Torrey Pines is. So the combination of the green fee, the cart fee, the putter rental and the lost putter make this the most expensive round of golf I have ever played.

Ive been playing here for the last 10 years. This is by far the worst Ive ever seen the course. Played 3 rounds in 3 days (both courses). The South kept this from a 1 star only because the greens were okay. Fairway, Traps, and Tee boxes were horrendous. Round took 5 hours and I never saw a Marshall. I played the North and it made the South look like Augusta. North greens were punched (no discount) and that was the best part of the course. Fairways were in shambles and random areas were aerated. Stay away for the next month or so. I expect a lot more, unacceptable for what they are charging.

I dont really need to write a review as there are hundreds of images and professional reviews out there for this place, but I walked away with a smile. The course is not cheap, but you get what you pay for at Torrey Pines. The location cannot be beat, it is a beautiful as ever. The course was in great shape and the day we played was right out of a Chamber of Commerce brochure. Quality all around. What amazed me the most, is that this is a municipal course; after the beautiful views and course condition. If you can make it there and get in around, you will be happy about it.

Played the south with cart. They were preparing for farmers insurance and tee boxes were all in one place. Cost usd110 per person for twilight tee off after 1230pm and carts are 25 extra. Great views from front 9 over the ocean but conditions werent spectacular. Greens were soft and all footprints and hollow tinned. Fairways had many divots unrepaired. And rough was so long we lost 10 balls in them with the sun in your eye u cant find them if you get in deep. Still an enjoyable experience and a strike off my bucket list. 2021 US open location.

Im giving this a three because of the slow pace of play. It is brutal and the rough is nasty. Everyone walks which is fine but they need to space out the tee times and also cut the ruff. Im a 5 handicap and played after the Farmers. They cut it down and you still could not find you ball in the ruff, none the less hit out of it. The South is just a big brute of a golf course. The views are spectacular obviously but Im going to pass on Torrey. To me its too much of a tourist trap.
