Since there is no negative rating i could give i had o put 1 which it doesnt deserve at all. So this review is on Peninsula Campground. Friends and family went there about 7 sites all clustered together and it was fun hanging out and BBQ up until 10pm. The "Power tripping Rangers" starting rolling to the middle campground where all of us had meet up at as to be far from the other neighboring camps and started to tell us that there were noise complaints from campers down the road and that we could not have more than 8 people at a site. After about 5 minutes of them telling us this i guess they called for back up because 3 more Rangers came and started telling us to pack up and to go to our campsites and to make sure there were no more than 8 people per campsite and no electronics could be on. We had been using a bluetooth speaker to play music and i guess that was too loud for their liking. After the backup came out they started to tell us to leave the site or they would kick us out for violating park rules. We ended up leaving for our sites and someone must have bumped into a car with an alarm and one of the female power tripping rangers claimed the owner had set it off on purpose and threaten arrest that person. Seriously arrest someone for having an alarm go off. As i went back to our campsite we ran into some of the campers from down the road on near the restrooms. After talking to them they said they had 4 campsites and that the rangers had told them that we had claimed a noise complaint against them. We were both upset about that and i hope they review this place too as they were also experiencing the harassment and what seemed excessive use of power the rangers were using. the next night already ready prepared for the same kind of lights out no noise back to your cell lockdown treatment we all agreed to spread the groups up at around 0950 PM so that the Power tripping Rangers wouldnt get on our case. Well at 0920 a Ranger decided to park their vehicle across from were we were all meeting up again and had their lights pointed at the campsite as if to remind us that they were watching us for a good 5-10 minutes. We all felt so uncomfortable being there and i hope more people speak out against them and not just brush it off. This is not how camping should be this is what prison feels like. Peninsula Campground has a Marshall Law Jurisdiction kind of feeling so if you want to feel how a dictatorship would control its newly colonized people go to Peninsula Campgrounds.

#Californiastateparks Ya know, as we sit here we can imagine the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area becoming the crown jewel of the State Park system. It does need a little work, but one can see the beauty behind the mask. With the trail system, (hiking, mountain biking, and American River Trail) the water recreation, and the camping areas, there is not another State Park like this one. Minutes to shopping, dining, and the light rail or freeways. Its just a crying shame that the State of California lets the Federal Bureau of Reclamation step all over them. The Feds, without explanation; have turned this beautiful reservoir into a salmon saving toilet that they flush at their will. Locally we have been brain washed into thinking they need to lower lake levels for construction, then drought conditions. But this year shows that they have taken control of our recreation at this park. This action effects more people than they realize. From boaters, to campers, to the person that "won" the contract to operate the snack bar, to the boat dealerships, or RV dealerships. The maintenance has really fallen on the lakeside also. There are trees growing below the water line that are 60 or more feet tall. This poses a huge hazzard for boaters or recreational swimmers. Then the trash....lower the lake, people walk further to the water, and the trash line goes further out. In this case we are our own worst enemy. Just my little rant ....I would hope the media could exploit this has they have the power to get solutions...or at least answers. #Californiastateparks #federalbureaureclamation #folsomlakestatepark

Great park when the water is at capacity. You can boat here and run jet skis all day long. Huge parking lot always open where you can see people flying R/C models in the air all day. Wide open areas to have a great full day of fun. A lot of nature here for kids to see and sometimes you can see people on horseback riding here. Cannot camp overnight here but would love to. Water is loaded with debris right now for some reason and a lot of branches and wood everywhere. It is worth it to get the all year round Poppy Pass if you plan on coming here a few times a year or more. No alcohol allowed and I think thats a great idea considering how many people actually come here during the summer and boat!

I purchased a Home next to Folsom Lake over 30 years ago, and havent regretted it one bit. It is a complete departure from everyday hustle and bustle in the "Concrete Jungle" we al live and work in. Most every week I am compelled to walk down to the lake and enjoy the tranquility of the natural setting there. Even the roar of powerboats jetting by, seems to blend in well with the ambiance, as they are like-minded people getting their recreation through exhilaration... a complete escape Im sure from their work and traffic stress! It is always clean and well maintained, even when it appears crowded, one can simply go down the shoreline to a better locale..

Folsom Lake State Rec Area has lots of activities available. Here are a few of the activities allowed; swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, biking, hiking, bird watching, horseback riding and camping. That said, these are the bring your own gear type activities. There is a snack bar and kayak rental at the beach near granite Bay Entrance. Entry/parking fee currently costs approx $12 for a day pass. The only complaint I have is that the beach is often extremely littered by those who visit and cleanup seems to be sporadic. Ideally people would clean up after themselves but that isnt always the case.

Over aggressive park rangers are always out to harass anyone they can. I have been stopped for no reason and asked for an ID so they can run it for warrants that I have never had. They have sent me into an Addisonian episode due to my medical conditions, and their over aggressive attitudes. They will use any excuse to harass anyone they see as different every chance they get. They have humiliated me in public based on mistaken identity, or a fabricated story. These parks would be a great place to visit if they did not hire bullies as park rangers.

I dont recommend camping here. We have camped at hundreds of places all over the country and this was at the bottom of our list. We have stayed here 2x in the non-RV section. Both times we had transients camped next to us begging. On our last visit the woman next to us had been there for 16 days straight without paying. The cops finally arrived to assist but we left. This campground is in an excellent location but the lack of management here makes this state park a huge disappointment. We wont be back.
