Thornton Paintball is a small, family-run paintball venture - it boasts only a single, light-woods field, about an acre in size. In fact, theres not even a sign on Dilworthtown Road advertising it, so if you werent looking for it at that address youd never find it. If this fields small size does not bother you (I know some of you out there like to spend the day field-hopping, like you do at Skirmish USA), the you will love Thornton Paintball. The first thing that strikes the new arrival is how laid-back Thornton is. The atmosphere is always casual, and new players and seasoned vets mingle in the ready area - theres none of the stark separation that I, for one, had grown to expect at most fields. Its not uncommon to see two or three rookies with rental equipment sitting at a table with a player whos been paintballing for years with his customized marker discussing any aspect of the game, from tactics to equipment to upcoming scenario games. This attitude continues with the field staff, who do their utmost to keep the teams balanced as well as asking for player input on the games to be played. Public games at Thornton usually average about 30 players, making the games that happy medium between crowded and sparse. As far as equipment goes, players are allowed to bring all their own equipment (except for paint), and renters will find that Thornton uses the rugged and reliable Tippmann 98 Custom as its marker of choice. Thornton is also the best deal in paintball around. There is no "field fee" per se; you pay for what you use. Full rental packages - marker, mask, tank and 500 paintballs - are $35. Paint is also reasonably priced and can be sold in bags of 500 rather than the standard case of 2000, and will run between $15 and $17 a bag depending on the grade you buy. Every now and then the field hosts a bring-your-own-paint day, which will run you $20 (the only thing close to a "field fee" here) - and even then, its still usually cheaper to buy their paint. The field handles both CO2 and HPA fills - CO2 fills are $3-$5 a fill and HPA are $3 per fill or $8 for all-day fills. The fills only go up to 3000 psi, which means that those of you using 4500 psi tanks will not be able to top off. In addition to the public games - usually one a month, on a Sunday - they also book private games, requiring a minimum of only 10 people and a security deposit of $150 (which is refunded when you come to play). The standard rates mentioned above apply to the private games as well. All in all, Thornton has a few minor drawbacks, but is a great choice for local paintballers. Three bad things about Thornton Paintball: 1. There is only one mid-sized field, about a football field in size. 2. HPA fills only go up to 3000 psi, meaning some players will run out of air quicker than usual. 3. Public games are irregular, infrequent and always on Sundays. Three good things about Thornton Paintball: 1. Great atmosphere that is second to none. 2. There is always a photographer present for all their events, and photos are uploaded to the Thornton Paintball website, where you can browse them for free. 3. Prices that cant be beat.

Pros: - very professional ref staff - well groomed fields - variety of games(capture the flag, president, ironman) Cons: - hard to find - there is no sign and its like pulling into someones driveway - only 2 woodsball fields - but they are very good woodsball fields - public games are usually only offered on Sunday afternoons Other fields played: Skirmish, LVP South Ok so if youre looking for huge sprawling fields and 100 player games, then go to Skirmish. This is not Skirmish. This is a small, local field that cares about the sport and tries to make sure all players, of all skill levels have a good time. When my O-ring blew out on my remote line(my fault), one of the refs helped me diagnose and even replaced the o-ring for free. All the refs I saw were very professional and didnt look down on new players as "noobs". The entire atmosphere was friendly and I never got the sense that this operation was about the money. I played in one of the Sunday public games, but overall my experience was very positive and I would highly recommend checking them out.

We had a great time at Thornton for a friends bachelor party. It was the first time paintballing for many of us, and the team at Thornton did a great job of making it a fun and memorable time for everyone. They were flexible with the game play, enjoyable to interact with and definitely put the extra effort into making sure we had a great time. There were two fields and we were able to alternate between both to keep the games interesting. The guns and equipment were all in good condition and the few times we did have problems they quickly helped replace it with a different completely functioning one. All of the referees were really easy to get along with and did a great job at providing useful strategy to our team, and also making sure we stayed safe while playing. The owners of the place were really good at answering questions beforehand and helping us set up the event. Overall it was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend Thornton to anyone looking to have a fun and competitive afternoon paintballing with friends.

We went to Thornton on 11/13 for a morning session of paintball; the first part of my brothers bachelor party. We had a 9 person group and I was worried that it would not be fun with so few people. I was completely wrong. We were able to play multiple/different types of games and it was a blast. The paintball course is on a residential property, so it is a bit hard to find (located behind a house). They have two paintball fields and there paint prices are almost half the prices of paint at Skirmish. They are only about 15 minutes south of West Chester; so you don’t have to drive all the way to the Pocono’s to go paint balling. All in all, I highly recommend Thornton for both experienced and beginner paintball players. The owners and ref’s are really cool and down to earth, it’s relatively cheap to play, and everyone from my group enjoyed themselves. Highly recommend.

I came across this place looking for something to do for my brothers bachelor party. I was pleasantly surprised to find paintball so close by and almost right between where everyone was coming from. From the research i did, the prices are very competitive to other places in the general area. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Most importantly, we all had a great time! Many of us are planning on getting togeather and going to a public shoot sometime. Great experience overall.

I had a fantastic time at Thornton paintball... it was ridiculously fun. The guys who ran our event were very cool and they did a great job of organizing the games for us... additionally, they were just cool in general. Both of the courses were cool, there was plenty of crap to hide behind, including a castle, which still did not manage to save me from being shot. It was awesome.

We were a new group mostly female group to paintball. The facilities were fun and SAFE. Steve and his staff were great at explaining things and keeping it fun and lively. I didnt think our group of ladies would make it past the first couple of games but we were out there for four hours! Very conveniently located but hard to find, you need to look for the Firewood for sale sign.
