Awesome venue! Quirky and fun building with lots of personality. Low key security and flow toys are allowed (hoops, poi, etc). No curfew so shows can go nice and late. Great place for funk, jam, EDM. There is a divider down the middle for all ages shows (21+ on bar side, -21 on the left) but the vibe is always still good on both sides. Sound quality is great. Bathrooms are good, theres always a place to stash coats amungst the extra chairs stacked near the bathrooms, never had my stuff stolen there. The one time I brought my young son to a fun all ages show the staff was very accommodating, they gave us ear plugs and a chair for when he got tired. LOVE this place!

Hated it.when I bought ani difranco tickets there was no mention anywhere that there would be no seating. Just standing room only. Ani is my favorite musician but if I had known i would have to stand for four hours on a concrete floor i never would have bought tickets. We left early. My back hurt so bad.and i waitress 10hour days with no breaks and no problems. Club cafe is so much better. As is the palace in Greensburg and CAC in Morgantown. Highly disappointed. Thought there would be some charming architectural details given the buildings age.there werent. It was an ugly hollow ed out shell.

The rex theatre is exactly what you would expect while looking at it from the outside. A solid Rock venue. Really wish they had shirts or hoodies with the name on them that werent staff specific. Would have been a great souvenir (and I always love gear from the great places I go). Parking is a bit of a task given the location but not really enough of a negative to lower my rating. Most venues have trouble getting people in the doors but they managed the line rather quickly. All in all, definitely willing to come back.

This is a good medium sized venue which pulls some really fun acts. I have been here several times and always enjoyed myself. There is a bar with decent prices, and while the ambiance is a little grungy its very suiting for most of the acts they get. Four stars instead of five because parking anywhere on South Side is awful, and because even when it is cold out this place gets HOT inside and there is no AC and the fans they do have offer no relief. Otherwise, its a pretty good experience.

Overall the place had a decent vibe. I was disappointed in one bartender in particular. I told her one of the beers was tapped wrong and she did not care in the least. Also, she was pretty rude to my girlfriend and me on multiple occasions. The other bartenders were great! I read in some previous comments that you could get ear protection from the bar but when I asked (the rude bartdener) she said she only had some for herself. I would possibly be back if there was a band I had to see.

I had a really great time seeing John Hodgman live here, so I cant speak to it as a concert venue, but it serves very nicely as a fairly intimate comedy venue. Id happily return for another comedian, or for a live show from a band I like. I will say that the music before the show started was a bit heavy on the uncomfortably loud, chest vibrating bass, but that would probably be a plus in some other circumstances. It just really didnt fit the show or the audience for the show I was at.

Good place for concerts. Good sound & nice size stage for bands. So far staff & security have been cool. Only drawback, which establishment cant control, is occasional lack of close street parking. To make matters worse the parking authority will be requiring you to pay the parking meters after 6pm beginning sometime in Spring of 2017. Check meter parking machines in area for date. Parking was free after 6pm which was great when going to shows that start about 7pm on South Side.

We saw The Chris Knight Band here. Its a good concert venue. I would recommend seeing a band here, maybe before they make it big. Feels like youre on stage with the band. Drinks are about on par with what you pay in any city tavern. I saw people walking around with PBR pounders, and then I saw why. $3 per can. Again, not bad for a concert venue. Chris Knight was great. He didnt talk much, but played a lot of music. Had a good night at the Rex.

Love the rex for 21 and over shows. Theres something free going on here every month, sometimes more often, which is awesome. Shows that are all ages have kind of a weird vibe because a metal barrier bisects what is already a very small venue. Beer is pricey and cash only so i recommend drinking elsewhere before or on set break. The location is right in the middle of the south side bars so parking is a struggle but theres a lot to do nearby.

No frills, "it is what it is" kind of place. The talent that comes through is always top notch, and thats what really counts. Four stars out of five because I think the room sounds a LITTLE wonky; with the louder bands, the bass is kind of boomy and it muffles the vocals. But thats made up for by the fact that you wont find a better atmosphere for a live concert in Pittsburgh. Always high energy and a lot of fun.

The rex was so amazing! All the staff were so kind and considerate, everyone was very nice. It was very clean! All the lights shiny and there was no dust anywhere that I could see !! They didnt rush us out, the employees were knowledgeable about the policies of the venue and were always happy to help. The sound system was fantastic too! I had such a great experience! Best venue I have been to!

Rex is my second favorite venue in Pittsburgh, only second to Mr. Smalls. Its an intimate space right at the heart of Carson St. I came by the other night to see Shy Glizzy, and it was a lot of fun. Theres two bars here, but both arent always open. Im sure Rex has a lot of history and it continues to be a great spot to see lots of different performances.

Great venue but watch the bar tenders. I gave the girl bartending at the Cherub show $20 bill should have had $12 come back to me-she kept $10. Definitely wasnt a mistake-watched her do it to a couple of other people next to me as well as some others in my group of people.

The concert was awesome. Drinks are prices fairly 3-5$per beer, and the venue it self was a great place to see a concert. If the mgmt see this I suggest adding a few more bar tenders cuz I waited for a while to get some beers, decided to dbl fist to avoid the lines again

The Rex is where we go to unwind, catch up with friends, and most importantly listen to amazing musicians. Friendly staff and crew and stiff drinks and clean bathrooms. The Rex is like going to church for the misfit music lovers of the Burgh!

If youre a business in 2013, there is no excuse to not except cards. I personally accept credit, why dont you? Its also foolish to separate the 21+ and -21 crowds with a road barrier. Its a concert, not a martini bar. Not coming back.
