Yesterday I went to the devonshire for a celebratory lunch with my father. He is 64 years old. Upon entering, there were 6 or 7 guys around the bar area.They were loud, crude, cursing and swearing and talking so loudly I couldnt hear my father sitting right across the table from me, we were seated in a far corner of the cafe. Every other word out of soemones mouth was cursing, about their job, their girlfriend, bemoaning their lot in life in general. The waiter came, took our drink order, brought back our drinks, and took our lunch order. 25 minutes later we finally recieved our lunch, not hearing a word from the waiter in the meantime. our lunch was a salad and a melted chicken sandwich. Why it took so long i have no idea. Meanwhile, the folks at the bar kept partying on, talking about it being someones 21st birthday the next day ( so, someone was drinking and was not even 21 yet) and giving away shots of top shelf very expensive liquor. i know this because i could very clearly hear the whole conversation. The owner showed up through the back door, these guys slipped out the front. As soon as she left, they were back. Not one word from our waiter. Our drinks were empty. Finally, when the waiter walked by to go outside for a smoke, my father caught him by calling for the check please. Such a shame that this little cafe, which could be so much more, is apparently owned and operated by people who simply do not care. We were the only diners that afternoon, i think its clear to see why. We will never go back. Shepherdstown has so much more to offer.

Used to be one of my favorite places. Im so disheartened to see this change over the years. Ive worked in food service for many years and many basic rules of etiquette are no longer being followed. Incorrect menus. Painfully slow wait staff, over twenty minutes for water, an hour or more for food. Dirty tables, filthy restrooms with no paper towels or dryers. Need to request silverware from the slow moving waiter, waiter not writing down orders leading to multiple mistakes and reminding what was ordered. Chasing down the waiter again to ask for check - payment process hindered again by waiter. Rude, obnoxious patrons at the bar making it uncomfortable for dining guests to feel valued or even heard. Such a charming place for food and drink, there are simple solutions to these issues, and I see this is definitely not the first time its been mentioned. This shows indifference and apathy on behalf of management. I hope you find others who are more content with your low service standards so you may remain in business. Im in disbelief as to how this establishment is still in business. I have never dined in a filthier restaurant. As soon as our food arrived there was hair in it. It was all down hill from there. We could have made a full cat by the end of the meal with the rest we found. We just stopped eating. We had poor service and felt like we waited forever. Keep in my mind we were the only people there for lunch. That should have been my first clue. The food was horrible. Compliments to the cook for being able to prepare "authentic" english food with a microwave. I have never felt more uncomfortable or disgusted at a restaurant. We paid for our alcoholic beverages and declined to pay for the food. On multiple sites, many unhappy customers have posted negative reviews and given very low ratings. I wouldnt give it any stars if that were an option. I will never be returning! I wish I had checked review sites before coming. But Im even more shocked the owner has not tried to rectify the issues that seem to plague this restaurant.

I cant believe the review for this place are so good. Our waiter was incredibly slow, we sat with empty beers for at least 10 minutes before he returned to our table. Ordered the artichoke dip, which took a solid 40 minutes to come. The dip was served with tortilla chip CRUMBS. Literally. They dumped the last of a bag of stale chips onto the plate. The dip was delicious, but we were left to eat it with tiny stale shards of tortillas. The waiter offered us pita, which took another 15 minutes. The food arrived about an hour after we were seated. It was decent, but nothing amazing. The burgers can only be cooked "well done", which sucks, but they werent awful. Beer selection wasnt great. The worst part about this place was this absolute douche sitting at the bar "vaping" the entire time we were there. The whole place was filled with disgusting smoke from this kid. That alone was enough to keep me from ever returning to this place. Its a shame. This place has a solid menu, but I wont be returning.

Most awful experience Ive ever had. The food was overall ok, I had a small issue with my burger, it was just not good way over cooked. I shared this with the waiter/bartender and he started being very very rude while offering 25% off the burger I was not going to eat. (A $2 discount) My wife told him he was being rude so he revoked the discount that he said he had graciously given us and then said we needed to pay and get out before he called the police. We are still confused as to why he was so rude and angry over such a stupid little thing. We are never going back. No one should be treated the way we were. My wife left a check and she is actually scared that this guy might show up at our house since the check has our address on it, he was that angry.

Great place for a drink. I came here the other day when the kitchen was closed. I wasnt able to grab the fish and chips I wanted. The beer selection is very good. The bartender on duty was friendly and was great to speak with. Good local pub. Affordable and laid back.

Driving through town and stopped by. Great beers on tap. Fast service. Lunch time. Ate the BLT and cant complain. Seems like a great pub to just stop and get a beer. The place was clean.

Terrible service. Didnt receive our appetizer until after our meal. Dinner salad the size of a side salad. Too expensive for the food offered. More a bar than restaurant. Not very clean.

Delicious French press coffee! Happened upon this little gem while in Shepherdstown to go to the Farmers Market. Will definitely be returning! Relaxed and dog friendly! Love it!
