I dont even know how to begin my "experience", Ive never left a vacation more stressed than when I came. My friend was here for a conference and was supposed to be tax exempt lady #1 said we can pay in cash when were here and they will add the tax exemption. So we get there and lady #2 says they cant do tax exempt with cash and we have no choice but to use our personal credit card and they can put it on when we leave. And the final man when we check out tells us we are not able to do tax exempt for personal credit cards and proceeds to call us liars saying the staff would never say what they told us and refuses to offer any help whatsoever which added around 60 dollars to our bill in taxes. You have literally no parking so if you have a car expect to pay 20 dollars extra every night to park your car. Dont bring anything that needs a fridge cause there are 0. Half of the outlets had something blocked off so I couldnt use them and literally everything in the hotel room was nailed down which wouldnt be a problem except the TV that was nailed down was unplugged and couldnt reach any outlet. (I brought a firestick for Netflix and they have the TV set up so that I couldnt use it which I wouldnt have been upset about if the staff hadnt been so rude but Im mad). Lastly dont touch anything, because everything they give you costs so much extra money for no reason. The water is $3.50 the coffee/tea in the room is 4$. Literally just go to motel 6 at least you get a mini fridge and wifi and its not 360 dollars for 2 nights. If I could give negative stars I would. I will literally never suggest this place to anyone that I care about, this place is a punishment not a reward.

We have stayed here for several years now for our annual conventions. Our latest stay was July 28, 29, 30, 2011 with checkout on Sunday, the 31st. Each time we LOVE being here. I have nothing but GREAT things to say about Charleston, WV Marriott!! First--this hotel is CLEAN. Did I mention CLEAN??!! And I really care about clean. I even took a flashlight and looked in the corners. It was clean. The mattresses are covered in white covers before bedding is put on. The duvets, sheets and pillows are clean and white. Did not use room service, but loved the breakfast bar. Food was at proper temperature--hot, or cold. Blueberries were huge and yummy! Very fresh, delicious eggs, wonderful omelets, and Coffee!! Dinners in the restaurant were great as well. Staff was EXCEPTIONAL--including Amanda--our housekeeping person on the 11th floor. Thank you Amanda!! Other staff at restaurant, and main desk, etc. were pleasant, smiling, and concerned that everyones needs were taken care of. Even gave us large free coolers to use since all the refrigerators were taken and the area was experiencing an unusual, long heat wave. They even tried to find a spare cell phone charger for us since one of us forgot the charger. Exceptional efforts. Even the people in the parking garage booth were pleasant, smiling and super-nice. I felt like I was in another world staying here. Thank you Marriott for making our time away from home so incredibly memorable!! This is our location of choice!! HIGHLY recommend this Marriott location.

Ive stayed here twice now and had pretty much the same experience both times (consistency being a large part of keeping me happy) The rooms were sort of on the moderate side of what I expected, but they were clean, tidy, and well made up. Obviously a nonsmoking property because you didnt smell a wiff of it. The view out onto the city (or the hillside) is very nice, but I really wish you could step out on the tiny balconies. The balcony doors are locked so you can only open them an inch or two, I guess to get air in. I ordered the romance package one time and was very impressed with how willing they were to work with me: my husband is allergic to strawberries, so they substituted a cheese plate. The breakfast is DEFINITELY worth while. Spend a little extra and get the package. Theres a bar of the usual stuff like sausage, bacon, grits, biscuits, muffins, and cereal, but they also make to order waffles and omelets that are pretty darned good. The hotel is located right across from the Town Center Mall and the Civic Center in downtown Charleston, so pretty much whatever youre coming in for in the downtown area, this is central. I love this hotel. I love their service, their rooms, and even the fabulously scented toiletries.

For some people, this would be a very nice hotel. Everything is very nice, and the location is excellent if you have business around the Convention Center. What then is my beef? If you want to bring a bus group there, do yourself a favor and forget it. The hotel is NOT bus friendly. They have no parking, driver has to take the coach almost a mile away, and then walk back... they will not use their courtesy van to pick him up. Because they have you by neck, everything is very expensive. To connect to the internet, which bus drivers and tour guides have to do a lot, it costs 13.00 per day, and then they only give you 20, not 24 hours for that price. They do not comp bus drivers or tour guides for their very expensive meals, even though the passengers are paying their exorbitant prices. In 35 years in the group tour business, this hotel is the absolute worst I have ever encountered for contempt for tour drivers and escorts... It would be cheaper to get your own room outside of town.. pass the word... BAD PLACE FOR GROUP TRAVEL... BAD PLACE FOR TOUR GUIDES AND DRIVERS

Got NO sleep here. The overall experience was fine, just like any other plain hotel, but couldnt sleep WHATsoever. The blinds were FAKE and the glass was either paper thin or just not closed all the way because every bit of light & sound got in my room during the entire night. The entire parking lot was lit up like a christmas tree & the birds never went to sleep. It was around 10 pm & I literally felt like I was trying to sleep outside during a summer day around noon. The only thing I paid for was the bed itself & nothing more. I could have gotten the same sleep sleeping outside on the lawn during the day, no lie. Not even exaggerating one bit. Why in the HELL would you put FAKE CURTAINS on our window?!?!?!?! I mean you went through the entire expense of drilling holes & hanging curtain rods & curtains; why not make them actually WORK instead of just being a decoration??? Will NEVER stay here again in my life. Id rather sleep in my car.

From the desk staff were amazing, but the bar staff, not so much. I asked for a lemon wedge for a drink I had previously purchased and it seemed like the biggest inconvenience (were not busy, only 3 other people at the bar and they had already been served). Beds were super comfortable and seemed clean. The outlets on the lamps were really loose though. None of our chargers fit, they kept falling out and wouldnt work, pretty dangerous. Overall it was an okay stay. Would have been better had we been more prepared, Im sure. But we had no electric and needed to take our two babies somewhere warm. I do love being right beside the mall though. Parking is stupid expensive...... We do have a marriot rewards card, lots of perks! We like having that, at least.
