Worst experience at a VA winery. We went there because they claimed to be family and dog friendly. My friend and I brought our young kids there, both in a stroller, and I brought my dog. After walking in, we waited at the bar for almost 20 min... switching halfway to the other one because we werent getting served. Was told upon walking in my dog (who was leashed and is well behaved) was not welcome so I left him in the back of my truck. During our tasting an employee asked me to bring him in because someone complained of him being in the covered bed of my truck... mind you he had the sides open, was in the shade, and a full water bowl. Ok, I didnt want him in there in the first place but was told he wasnt welcome upon entering... so I bring him in and go back to our spot. We were in the corner, and they had a crate with a dog in it, I didnt let my dog get too close but lets face it we were shoved back there and couldnt really avoid it and an employee or owner (not sure nor does it matter) yelled at us for getting too close when the dog freaked out and lunged at my dog. No sign or warning, if the dog didnt like visitors then maybe he shouldnt be placed in such a public place, or they should have a sign to warn people.... instead of yelling at me for simply standing at the tasting bar where you placed us. The wine was ok but I have no idea about any of it because our server just gave us the glasses and poured, didnt even inform us of which one we were on. Really disappointed, we dont live too far away and I was hoping to make this a regular spot. You couldnt pay me to come back after the way we were treated.

The wines are great if you like them sweet. What would really keep us from coming back is how we were treated when we first came in. We spent some time standing at the tasting counter before someone came over and it was not busy at all. The first taller woman behind the counter scrutinized our IDs and said "Well, its aligned pretty good". Excuse me? She was helping a small group already, but poured us barely a sip of the first wine and just told us the name of it as if we werent worth the time. The second woman who stepped in to do our tasting was amazing and she was very knowledgeable about the winemaking process and the grape varietals that the vineyard produces. Our favorite was the Seyval Blanc aged in oak. That was a first. It was toasty and different, but quite good! We also liked the rose-tinted Sunset and the dessert-like Concerta. As we drove out, we admired the lush merlot growing alongside the driveway.

Beautiful vineyard. Tasting was strange. A group of 4 women were having a tasting when we arrived. My husband did not want to drink anymore (wed been to 2 other vineyards earlier). I did a tasting. A few I really like. Well I think I did. There were about 2 tablespoons in each and every pour for me. Not however for the party of 4 women tasting next to me. It was ridiculous. We also didnt much care to hear the pathetic dating stories of the 40-ish year old female employee. I only purchased 1 bottle because it was absolutely impossible to ascertain much, if anything, from the paltry pours. I doubt well ever return.

Finally got to check this place out. Took a break from the lake for a day and went to check out Lake Anna winery. The drive way was a little difficult for our driver to find but no worries we found it eventually. Staff was great and a nice relaxed setting. Plenty of seating. I dont know much about wine but they were all good to drink. Would definitely recommend giving it a try

Lake Anna Winery is a gem, the wines compare to the better wineries in the region. Their staff is awesome and their low prices put most regional wineries to shame. Their entire portfolio is great. The Seyval Blanc is a favorite as is the Lakeside White blend. Try their Claret for a great meritage-style red blend. You wont be disappointed!

This winery is always on my list of stops whenever Im in town. The staff/owners are knowledgeable and gracious. The wine is top notch. They host great events including music festivals. Leave the kids at home and enjoy this fun, relaxing environment.
